🚨 On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at around 5:10 p.m., UTPD received a report of a suspicious person near the 2800 block of San Gabriel. UTPD officers responded and met with officers from the Austin Police Department
to search the area and were unable to locate the suspicious person. APD determined there is no ongoing threat to the community or to campus.

🚨UPDATE to Off-Campus Suspicious Person Incident
Earlier today, a UTPD officer conducting bicycle patrol in the West Campus area, was able to positively identify the subject and recovered a plastic toy rifle that matched the video and
pictures circulating on social media. Since no clear criminal offense occurred, no arrest will be made. There is no ongoing threat to the campus or community today and there was not a threat yesterday.
We want to reiterate yesterday's messaging, that we understand the
sensitivity of these types of incidents. As we became aware of misinformation that was spreading, the department made the decision to push out accurate information via social media and our website.
We ask that our community follow the official University social media pages for accurate information and updates. If any action is required, such as sheltering in place, building evacuation or if there is an immediate threat to campus or the surrounding areas, information

multiple reports of a man with an assault rifle near and on campus and still no safety alert from the university. this man, if it’s the same person as in the video below, has been walking around campus with a gun for nearly 3 hours. unacceptable.
