I have much gratitude for my time in Cambodia! Before leaving in a few days, we’re sharing thanks, a few parting thoughts, and memories from five years in the Kingdom. Brief video here:
I proudly joined the gallery of predecessors who have served as Ambassador to Cambodia since 1950.
@USEmbPhnomPenh
staff honored us by planting a rumduol tree, source of the national flower, as a symbol of sustainable growth for the Cambodian people. May you prosper & bloom!
It was hard to say goodbye... Wish you and your family all the best. Thank you,
@USAmbCambodia
,
@WPatrickMurphy
for being an engaged lone wolf, down to earth, easy-going, approachable, and helpful. During your term, it gives me a chance to join events and see US. 🙏🙏🙏
Together with this crack team of driving & security professionals, we travelled across all 25 provinces to engage with the Cambodian people and our partnerships. Always safe & secure!
An amazing celebration with the
@USEmbPhnomPenh
mission community. It was such an honor working with this talented cast for five years. The U.S.-Cambodia relationship remains in good hands.
When I soon depart Cambodia, I will hand this Twitter/X account over to U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh. Please continue to follow for updates!
I also look forward to continuing the conversation on life & adventures and invite you to join me at my personal account
@WPatrickMurphy
.
On a daily basis my deputy and I benefit from the expert contributions & dedication of our Executive Office staff working behind the scenes, supporting us to lead & manage
@USEmbPhnomPenh
and the bilateral relationship. I’m grateful; they are like family!
We’ve hosted thousands of guests at the official residence of the U.S. Ambassador in Phnom Penh to strengthen friendships and support our programs. This fabulous & spirited crew makes it all happen!
Had a good farewell chat with DPM/Interior Minister Sar Sokha. We discussed ongoing bilateral law enforcement cooperation and how best to counter transnational organized crime, especially human trafficking and cyber scams.
We gathered among partners and friends from the palace, government, civil society, media, business, and youth to say thank you and celebrate joint achievements and the resilience of the
#Cambodian
people. What a wonderful evening!
Heartfelt thanks to our “graduating” Cambodia university interns at
@USEmbPhnomPenh
. They have spent four months helping promote friendship between the United States and
#Cambodia
.
Congrats—we can’t wait to see where the future takes you!
It’s never too early for diplomacy! We celebrated Take your Child to Work Day with the American & Cambodian children of our
@USEmbPhnomPenh
community to learn how their hardworking parents advance friendship between our two countries.
In the third instalment,
@USAmbCambodia
Patrick Murphy speaks to
@Kiripost
about the economy, Cambodia-US relations, and the controversial Ream naval base and the Techo Canal
Diplomacy is a team sport! I’ve had an outstanding senior staff leading the agencies & sections of
@USEmbPhnomPenh
. Their dedication in representing the United States and promoting friendship with Cambodia is unmatched. And we couldn’t do it without spouses & partners!
The warehouse crew! A fabulous posse that manages our stored furniture, equipment, and other supplies needed to support a large diplomatic mission. They’re the best.
It was a lot of fun to drop by
@Harpswell_Now
and engage with 70 terrific young women university students from across Cambodia’s provinces. They asked great questions about 🇺🇸- 🇰🇭 bilateral relations, education, diplomacy, gender equality, and leadership.
We were honored to have a royal audience with His Majesty King Sihamoni once more in my capacity as Ambassador and to offer best birthday wishes. I was touched by His Majesty’s detailed appreciation for U.S. assistance programs and Embassy activities in Cambodia.
I’ve loved running in every Cambodian province. They’ve all been wonderful, but it’s hard to beat the hidden parapet at 12th century Angkor Thom after sunrise at Angkor Wat: ancient gates, hidden temples, shade trees, singing gibbons, chanting monks. Glorious!
