Does it get any bigger than a World Heavyweight Boxing Title Fight? Tyson Fury & Oleksandr Usyk contest the prize tomorrow evening. The size difference between the pair is comparable to when Jack Dempsey fought Jess Willard depicted in a postcard from our collections. #TowerSport

Thirty years ago, this week Labour Party leader John Smith died. The hugely respected Scotsman pictured here in the 1983 Shadow Cabinet (5th right) had all the credentials to make a great Prime Minister. For these reasons he’s been inducted into our Hall of Fame. #TowerHallofFame

Big things are expected of new indie band sensation ‘English Teacher’. Renowned for their razor-sharp guitar riffs and very acerbic lyrics we think they’d appreciate the tenets of this 1953 English Spelling Bill – maybe even inspire a new song to put on an EP or album! #TowerArts

Continuing our new series of blogs on the ‘Inside the Act Room’ platform titled ‘A Year Like No Other’. We go back just over a century to 1922 when domestically a royal wedding brought the country together & on the world stage change was in the air. Enjoy!

Pugin, designer of the Gothic interior of the Palace of Westminster, made this wallpaper design in 1851. He suffered ill health during his adult life and a year later in 1852 was admitted to Bethlem Hospital after a mental collapse and died soon after. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Everyone is raving about Sky Atlantic’s new historical drama ‘Mary & George’. Telling the story of Mary & George Villiers’s (also known as the Duke of Buckingham) antics in the court of King James VI. This 1624 Journal entry shows that the duke didn’t get wiser with age. #TowerTV

The Edwardian era was a short but important period of history. This is captured by Alwyn Thomas in his latest book 'Little Englander'. Here is the programme for the coronation of King Edward VII held in 1902. #TowerRex

‘And did those feet in ancient time’ from Blake’s Prophetic books that's now recognized as the hymn ‘Jerusalem’. Probably best associated with the Public School system especially Eton. Ex pupil and reality TV star Spencer Matthews is known for his stirring rendition… #TowerIcons

By the 1790s Blake’s ‘Albion’ was enriched by radicalism across the board. The tenets of Thomas Paine’s ‘Age of Reason’ was a great influence on him. Below an 1880 reprint of the iconic book. #TowerIcons

Today is National Paranormal Day, here is one of the archives' more spooky and scary items in the collection, the Tracey gravestone! This is one of 24 loose fragments, it was used as evidence in the 19th century for the peerage claim of James Tracy. #TowerQuirks

2024 has been a strong year for films thus far. One that caught our attention was ‘The Shamrock Spitfire’ telling the little-known story of Brendan ‘Paddy’ Finucane who was the youngest ever RAF Wing Commander. An ace of the skies in that famous warplane pictured below. #TowerWW2

Artist David Shrigley pulped thousands of copies of 'The Da Vinci Code' which he then republished as Orwell's '1984', almost 70 years after it was first published. The novel '1984' was referenced in House of Commons debate only a year after its original publication. #TowerDebates

Should heatwaves be named like hurricanes? Not a Bob Dylan lyric but a serious scientific question of late. We shall see. In the meantime, let's look back to the summer of 76, when Britain was hit by some sweltering temperatures & Big Ben mysteriously broke down #TowerSciandTech

Last autumn the social historian Josie Harris passed away. Noting her sterling work in the field that included a fabled biography on reformer William Beveridge (see his seminal 1942 Health Report below) we thought she’d make a fine inductee into our Hall of Fame. #TowerHallofFame
