This 2015 video demonstrates how quickly even legal fireworks when they come in contact with dry grass or vegetation can spark a fire that quickly grows. Even legal fireworks can lead to fires.

UPDATE/Here's a look at crews working on the landslide on U.S. 30 east of Astoria Wednesday. Expect that road to remain closed at least through part of today. Choose an alt route (U.S. 26 is PDX's best bet).
Ok-๐ปI think this is it. Lost Tweetdeck this a.m. and that pretty much tanks all usefulness on this platform for me. It was a "slow death" but one we knew was coming. Thank all of you for the good times, and all the info we were able to share quickly with eachother. Take care!

Welp. That's a party right there. This could be you! Don't travel the passes unless you need to. And if you need to, be ready for winter driving.
OH. MY. GOD. - donโt think Iโve ever seen this much water pouring over Multnomah Falls. It is absolutely raging. Itโs so loud, you canโt hear the freight train speeding by. Very heavy rain right now adding to the flow. Just incredible!!

Heads up! The new roundabout in West Linn/Oregon City is open! Don't freak out, they're actually great once you get the hang of them. Remember: Merge, traffic IN the circle has the right-of-way, and SIGNAL at your exit. That's it!
#pdxtraffic
Of note: I've been "professionally" watching morning traffic for 10+ years. I've NEVER seen an overnight event leaving this many roads blocked. Sure your side street might be fine, but SERIOUSLY CONSIDER staying home this a.m. Just do
#pdxtraffic
Seriously: This is the day to GET STUFF DONE. And then hunker down. Anyone who's been here a while knows what happens to Portland streets in snow/ice. Be ready.
WATCH: An absolutely terrifying (but amazing) scene from Elgin, TX last night when a truck gets flipped by a tornado...then drives off.
A reminder to take alerts very seriously and take cover when tornado warnings are active!

Anyone who has followed this account for a while knows we WORRY about fire danger. Clark Co. Fire District is encouraging residents to forgo fireworks this year. Others will follow suit. Why will "you" choose to shoot off combustible material this year? Why?
Due to the potential for strong winds and heavy snow, a BLIZZARD WARNING was issued for the

and

mountains from 4 am Friday to 4 pm Saturday. Snow accumulations up to 5 feet and wind gusts in excess of 55 mph are expected.

I don't know if Twitter is taking a dive, but I'd like to say that I learned A TON on here and had a great time keeping you out of traffic jams, weather hassles for 6ยฑyears. Drive excellent my peeps. ๐ป
My best pal turns 11 today. He's a good guy but will steal your food - in seconds. He spent yesterday doing his most favorite thing: getting wet! "Water is life" says Rumble.

Welp, the first day on Daylight Saving didn't go that well. Let's hope the first commute day does a bit better. Likely going to rain today too, so take it easy out there.

Heads UP
#VanWa
. A police procession of about 300 vehicles will use I-5 NB from Ft. Vancouver to LaCenter Exit 16) beginning 11 a.m. Tue. Motorists are encouraged to pull over to allow the procession to pass. There WILL be delays. Factor that into your drive.

Getting ready to sign off for the xmas holiday. But I wanna say you've all been SO GOOD today! Santa would be proud. Cept these guys. And the arborvitae killer. Those guys get coal.

Reminder: If you're checking Google maps for "traffic" flow today, you'll be seeing these orange lines. That's NOT traffic, that's slick/icy roads. Some folks get confused.
#pdxtraffic
And no, it's not over. NONE Of these vehicles on I-84 WB to I-205 NB are moving. None. I-205 NB heading to the airport is at a completely stop.

Been doing this a while. And I've never seen this. I-5 downtown "traffic" at rush hour yesterday. Good job Portland. (photos by Brooke Herbert/The Oregonian)
This car was stopped today by Trooper Evan Sowards ๐
Please make sure to clean off your cars before driving ๐ Drivers behind you will appreciate it!
It will also keep you and others around you safe as you can see your surroundings ๐

Remember bridge lifts for Fleet Week? (yah, I don't either) but THEY'RE BACK!!! Be ready for afternoon lifts Wed-Thur fromย about 2-5 p.m. depending on day. Lifting bridges are Steel, Burnside, and Morrison. Choose an alternate route.
Welp commuting peeps. I'M OUTTA HERE! (and yes, somewhere warmer than... this anyway). BE GOOD drivers and commuters. I'll be back 3/13 Probably. .. ;)
PLEASE NOTE: My twitter feed is blowing up this a.m. (as it does, when it snows/ices) and I might miss a question or comment. I'll do my best to "plow" through them and get you answer. But it might be delayed. Sorry.
Why is freezing rain so dangerous? Freezing rain happens when the air is warm enough for liquid rain to fall on frozen ground. Freezing rain could cause outdoor surfaces to become dangerously slippery. Please avoid unnecessary travel during episodes of freezing rain.

Lovely shot at Zig Zag on U.S. 26 on the west side of

and a good reminder that snow levels are dropping. This is at just under 1,500 feet. Be ready for winter driving at about 1,000 feet by tonight.
More changes coming to this platform. I am not "verified" and won't be. If you want to see traffic/weather info from this account, you need to switch from "for you" to "Following" and keep it there (which is what I do)

FRIDAY! And Holy Frozen Peanuts it's cold. The entire metro is well below freezing, some areas in the teens. Wind chill will make it feel colder. Freeways look super slick. Use caution!
Before the really hot weather gets here, I gotta shout out to my doggy friends. Hot pavement is HARD on their feet. Walk at night/dark or on grass. (yes, they can stand warmer temps than bare human feet, but cut them a break). Also, give extra water even if they stay inside.
#pdxtraffic
Feel like a RAIN PSA is warranted here. Portland got just under 1/2 inch of rain TOTAL from 6/20-10/20. This weekend could bring an INCH. Wet weather driving is no joke. How's your tire tread? (
#petpeeve
of mine), wipers? Lights?? CHECK THESE THINGS.
TRAFFIC ALERT: NW Helvetia Rd is CLOSED between NW Dierdorff Rd & NW Grossen Dr at the train trestle due to a crash. The road could be closed for an extended period of time.

Stall blocks one WB lane on the Ross Island Bridge. But, if you need to use the bathroom while you're stuck, there's one guy that could help you out. ;)
I genuinely donโt remember ever seeing a โchains requirementโ when I lived in Missoula. Yet,

It's like a broken record at this point, but temps this a.m. are just at freezing and roads look BAD in many areas. Use extreme caution if you're heading out. (one image from last night before I hit the sack. Just because it was illustrative)

Heads up in downtown PDX today as crews will demolish the old Korean Church that was burned earlier this week. Demo should start about 10 a.m. at SW 10th Ave at Clay. STAY AWAY. Streetcar is using shuttles for riders. More here:
Attention morning commuters! It is looking increasingly likely that scattered light snow showers will impact the lowlands Thursday morning. Model guidance is now suggesting anywhere from a dusting to one inch of snow by late Thursday morning from Eugene to Portland/Vancouver.
UPDATE: the U-haul was located near SE 131st & Powell yesterday afternoon, 2 people arrested. Some of Nikkiโs things are gone, but furniture and other items still there. THANKS for all the tips!

Heading to the coast today? Be ready for strong winds, heavy rain at times and high water on some roadways. This "bridge to nowhere" is a bit daunting too.

Get OUTSIDE this Friday: State parks in OR and WA will once again waive all parking fees on the day after Thanksgiving. The weather should be pretty good for it too.
STUCKโฆ several semi trucks are stuck on the i-5 north on-ramp to the Marquam Bridge. They are BLOCKING ALL LANES, too icy and slushy to move. No

Marquam Hill rd up from OHSU to Fairmount blvd is blocked with stuck cars and people keep trying it. I tried reporting it as blocked on a few apps but my directions still say to go that way. This picture doesnโt show but there are cars on either side and more stuck in betweenโm.
