Michigan still has only five 11+ win seasons since 1906 (1971, 1986, 1997, 2006, 2011).
The Buckeyes have won 11+ seven times under Urban Meyer alone.
The Wolverines have two 12+ win seasons in history (1905, 1997)
OSU has six 12+ win seasons under Meyer.
Looking at photos from last year's game, Conner Stalions (mouth open, closest to the field) is right next to Michigan DC Jesse Minter when Ohio State has the football, and right next to then-co-OC Sherrone Moore when Michigan had the football.
I’m not saying the last five minutes are 100 percent conclusive proof that NFL officiating is rigged to benefit big-market teams, but *IF* NFL officiating was rigged to benefit big-market teams, this is a lot like what it would look like.
Michigan’s seniors just ended their careers with four straight years of losing to Ohio State and then also losing a bowl game.
Their fourth year guys just played an entire college career without ever winning after Thanksgiving.
Since Karan Higdon guaranteed UM would beat OSU:
- They lost by 23
- He sat out the Peach Bowl to protect his Draft status
- He didn’t get drafted
That is quite a five-month stretch.
You've probably seen this incredibly tasteless autographed photo going around Twitter tonight.
The original photo is mine and was apparently cropped to remove the watermark.
I did not sell the rights to my photo to this company and have contacted them, asking them to remove it.
Michigan State lost 49-0 at home against their in-state rival, had to apologize for showing Hitler on their scoreboard, and might still end up having a better week than Michigan before all is said and done.
This is going to get lost in all the stuff that happened after this, but JT Tuimoloau made an absolutely MONSTER play to help get the defense off the field late in the game.
The Big Ten Championship is great, and a Rose Bowl trip is amazing.
But the real highlight of the last 10 days for OSU was knocking Michigan from “PLAYOFFS! THIS IS OUR YEAR!” to a noon Peach Bowl game against Florida. That is quite a tumble.
Congratulations to Texas A&M on its Texas Bowl win, which will lead to a 2020 preseason
#9
ranking, preceding an unimpressive 8-4 season where they somehow barely hang on to a top-25 spot that then burnishes some other SEC team’s playoff resume.
TreVeyon Henderson says he spent the COVID lockdown reading books about finances and the market. He’s now investing a lot of his NIL earnings rather than spending them.
I have walked out of multiple Ohio State games this season convinced that they can’t win the national title this season.
And then you watch the other top-5 teams play…
Mike Weber came to Ohio State from Detroit.
He will finish his Buckeye career a combined 6-0 against Michigan and MSU, with at least one rushing touchdown in all six games. That's pretty impressive.
These two shots came on back-to-back plays in the third quarter, in case you were wondering why OSU staffers have talked about JT Tuimoloau getting held pretty frequently.
Boy, it sure seems like some national writers might owe an apology to the Nebraska and Ohio State parents, coaches, and players after suggesting they were being ridiculous to think that the league might be able to play this fall.
So if I’m reading the timeline correctly, it turns out the guys who were 1 and 1A at the quarterback position coming out of high school and who were then also 1 and 1A at the college level have turned out to be better than a 3-star one-year wonder from BYU?
That’s wild.
Everyone in Ohio want to take a deep breath and maybe reevaluate their thoughts on the 20-point road conference win with a new QB against a basketball school?
It is legal to steal signs during the game, of course, so this isn't proof of any violations.
It does, however, make it pretty improbable that this was some low-level nobody that the head coach and coordinators never interacted with.
Something else that was pretty apparent while going through photos after the game is why Tyreke Smith was seemingly somewhat frustrated at one point in the second half.
The crowd at the game last night was incredible. Loud, involved, and making its presence felt.
Did You Know: In Notre Dame tradition, the crowd is known as "The 11th Man."
If you had to explain Columbus to someone who had never been here before, “There are people tailgating before 8 am who are then going to pay to sit in the rain and watch a football team practice” would be a good place to start.
In 2022, Michigan's defense was +18 in mgoblog's "Rock Paper Scissors" metric against Penn State, meaning their coaching staff was incredibly good at putting their defense in the right calls for what the opponent was doing.
In 2023, Michigan's defense was -7.
Quite a change.
J.J. McCarthy believes 80% of teams steal signs, accuses Ohio State:
“...I don’t want to say a crazy number, but I’d say a good number, 80% of teams in college football steal signs. It’s just a thing about football.
You know, it’s been around for years. We actually had to
Hey remember when The Crew was going to move because it was impossible to win in Columbus and then their idiot failson of an owner sold the team and then they won two MLS cups in the span of four years?
That was wild, man.

@APrecourt
So now Michigan, Penn State, and Iowa parents have joined Ohio State’s parents in asking Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren to let their kids do what he’s allowing his own son to do - play college football this fall.
I don't care what happens in Salt Lake City tonight. If Oregon is still ahead of Ohio State in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, something is terribly, terribly wrong.
Look, this hasn't been a great year for a lot of people.
But at least you're not a professional sports team owner who tried to abandon a city because it was supposedly a place you could never win, only to watch that team win a championship two years later.
Shout out to the national writer who couldn't wait to tweet out the Penn State myocarditis story earlier, and then RT other people snarking about the idiots on Twitter questioning it, but who hasn't acknowledged the "whoops, it was a load of crap" follow-up.
If Purdue blows this and can’t beat a 15-seed to get to the Elite 8, the only possible explanation is that it’s the downside of the deal they cut with the Devil to inexplicably ruin Ohio State football seasons twice a decade.
There are many statues, monuments, and displays dedicated to the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry, but few can match the majesty of this truck stop bathroom hallway in North Baltimore, Ohio.
Garrett Wilson says he felt compelled to address the team after the Tulsa game to tell them that even though they won, they weren't living up to the standard that has been set within the program.
A bit of context: This photo is from the first drive of the game.
So if those are, in fact, OSU's signals as Marc's sources are saying, then they were definitely collected before the day of the game.
Separate sources also indicated that upon viewing the photos that
@TomOrr4
posted last night on Twitter, the belief inside the Ohio State program is that the laminated signal sheet in question was indeed OSU's signals.
The major takeaway from day 2 of the NFL Draft is that if Urban Meyer and Kerry Coombs drive through a blizzard to recruit you, you should probably listen.
Also, if you are someone who views a season with a 60-burger against Michigan, a Big Ten Championship, and a Rose Bowl trip as a failure, you should stop following college football.
A 12-1 Big Ten championship season with a blowout win over Michigan is a *GREAT* season.
The good news for Ohio State is that based on the way Chris Holtmann handles big leads, he’s going to walk into his termination meeting with a $14 million buyout and walk out owing the school $20.
It’s going to be interesting how often national outlets talk about two members of the 2024 Big Ten beating two members of the 2024 SEC in the semis.
Because I have a pretty good sense how often it would come up if the opposite was true.
A very heart-felt thank you to everyone who has reached out. It really means a lot.
We worked ahead this week, so please enjoy a few more episodes of the Morning Scoop and another Buckeye Weekly.
The best is yet to come.
Missouri’s offensive line going 10-2 against an SEC schedule and then getting rolled up in a carpet and dumped off a bridge by the Ohio State defensive line should have you questioning some things you’re constantly told about the amazing defensive line play in the SEC.
In case you're looking for some analysis on why tonight's Michigan/Louisville game is going the way it is, the University of Louisville was named one of the best online bachelors' degree programs in the nation this year by U.S. News & World Report.
Man. With Auburn, Mississippi State, and Kentucky all losing, the poor Playoff Committee is really going to work overtime to somehow still cram seven SEC teams into the top-25.
Can you imagine the narrative around a Big Ten team that had coasted through a regular season schedule against zero top-20 teams that then immediately got stomped the first time they played a good team?
I’m sure we’ll see a similar response nationally tonight.
Drue Chrisman had maybe the greatest punting game in Ohio State history and didn't win the Big Ten Special Teams Player Of The Week award because they gave it to Indiana's kicker for making 42 and 23-yard field goals.
Great job, everyone.
I think my favorite thing this year was when the biggest, splashiest spenders in the NIL game like Texas A&M, Miami, and USC lost to App State, Middle Tennessee, and Tulane, respectively.
Remember when people acted like we were being homers for saying that the CFP committee screwed Georgia by giving them OSU instead of TCU in the first round?
Good times.
It's going to be more than a little awkward when Kevin Warren gets loudly booed by the crowd of player parents and families during the trophy presentation on Saturday.
Ohio State finally beats Clemson and advances to the national championship.
Browns beat the Steelers and clinch a playoff berth.
We're three days in, and 2021 is already one of the top-5 years this century for sports fans in this state.
Well the “overrated”
@sec
is at it again-Finished 9-2 in post season play & won the Natty. Thank goodness the officials, opposing coaches/players & somehow even announcers helped them pull off this feat. It’s now up to the
@nfl
draft to keep the bias going in April. 🙄
#Sarcasm
CFP chair Boo Corrigan on the Bama-FSU debate: "The questions we do ask from a coaching stand point is who do you want to play and who do you not want to play."
Oh my
"I don't know if they have a marquee win" says Rece Davis, who then says it's probably Cincinnati.
Reminder: OSU beat

Wisconsin by 31 two weeks ago. (and Wisconsin is pretty underrated there)
