This is Adelaide Springett, aged 8, born in 1893 in Wapping. Her two twin sisters, Ellen and Margaret died at birth and another sister, Suzanna died when she was four. Adelaide took off her boots for the photograph as she was ashamed of them. She died in 1986 at age 93 in Fulham.

Do YOU remember free school milk? Although introduced as long ago as 1906 by a Liberal Government, it wasnโ€™t until 1946 that the Free School Milk Act came into force. A Labour Government ended the practice for older children in 1968 and Mrs Thatcher ceased the practice in 1971โ€ฆ

Now much more 'upmarket' - here is a view of the Prospect of Whitby pub on Wapping Wall long before it became a trendy place to visit. The pub was built in 1520, and was named after a collier that transported coal from Newcastle and would moor beside her whenever in London #pubs
