I love this clip because Mario is unexpectedly back to Brooklyn and yet he acts as if he's never been there before (like its alien to him).
He's so used to the Mushroom Kingdom and its bizarre world and mechanics that he kinda forgot he was from a much more grounded place lol!
The deleted scenes/concept art of the Mario Movie had me thinking:
it really needed a subplot, specifically Luigi's side of the story.
It would not only be a good break from the main plot, but it would've given Luigi more development and a chance to shine other than the end.
I would go CRAZY for a Luigi's Mansion movie with the animation having a stylized painterly-look (ala Puss The Last Wish) since one of the reccuring themes in the games is portraits or paintings.
Kinda like these pieces of concept art only in motion. It would be SOOO SICK!!! ๐
The gentle giant trope.
Y'know, where a character looks scary or intimidating, but is actually a big ol' sweetheart?
That trope brings a huge smile on my face when done well.
Some of my favorite characters fit into this archetype (Massimo from Luca comes to mind).
Bowser is an actual i*cel in this movie.
He sees Mario as trying to "steal" Peach away from him and blames him for "ruining" his wedding when really, it was entirely his fault.
He's narcissistic but most importantly, pathetic.
How did anyone miss that is beyond me...
I think saying Mario should've actually stopped the wedding to give Bowser a reason to hate him is kinda missing the point
From the moment he hears about him, Bowser's been building Mario up in his head, as if Peach would love him if it wasn't for another man
He's delusional
What I respect Illumination for is that they're one of the few animation studios that ACTUALLY treat their employees with respect.
They pay their artists/animators well and give them good working conditions, openly made fun of NFTs/Crypt0, and are anti-AI.
That's commendable!
Out of Context Despicable Me/ใใใชใณ/NFTS ARE BAD
Chris Meledandri does not agree with Jeffery Katzenbergโs statement on how AI will replace 90% of animation. He believes artists are the most important part of process in creating animation.
Even after he nearly gets run over by Spike, he immediately looks back at the city in awe (until Spike grabs him).
Idk maybe I'm reading too much into it, but small details like that is why I keep coming back to this movie.
Intentional or not, it's fun to rewatch and notice-
You can criticize animated media without being disrespectful to the artists, animators, and crew.
Nobody makes a bad animated project on purpose, y'know?
@GreshamKayden
I have a feeling that one of the reasons why Illumination and Nintendo delayed the Mario Movie is because it wasn't completed on time and they didn't want to crunch their animators and artists.
More companies should have better working conditions for their staff.
Tbh even before the meme, I always laughed at the "Destiny Del Vecchio from high school" line from the Mario Movie.
Like that girl was randomly on Luigi's mind all these years later for no reason lol he's so silly!
What I love about this bit is that it establishes Mario and Luigi's personalities through their actions:
Mario - Athletic, risk-taker, impulsive even.
Luigi - Cautious, takes things slow (like a beginner player).
The movie is full of visual storytelling like this, and I dig it!
The animation is another underrated aspect of the Mario movie. This scene is one of my favorite examples.
Mario and Luigi feel like they came STRAIGHT out of their respective games, even by the attention-to-detail on their movements.
It's clear the people behind it love the IP.
As much as I'm disappointed it was held back bc of execs, I still love this movie!
Yes it could've been WAY better but in the end, I'm mostly happy with it.
The team is talented and very passionate about Mario, so I hope they listen to the critiques to make a FAR better sequel.
Of the modern DreamWorks movies, I feel The Bad Guys has the most franchise potential.
Like there's so much material from the books, and this could a gateway to further develop the characters and push the animation.
Regardless, if a sequel or show is announced I will freak out!
The things I've missed in a film and analyze it (and there being a ton of other things I've yet to discover).
Like, the Mario Movie is easily one of the most rewatchable films for me.
Hell, I'm craving to watch it again as I type this lol! I love the movie that much!
Finally saw Wish Upon A Studio and it's GREAT!
A wonderful celebration of Disney Animation new and old, all beautifully animated (both 2D and 3D). The ending and tribute to Walt were also very sweet.
It's a CRIME this wasn't played before Wish in theaters! It deserved better!
I really love how the characters are drawn!
Very strong expressions and gestures; it's the kind of style I absolutely dig.
I wish we had a Mario comic series in this style bc this is incredibly charming!
Elemental was marketed a lot.
It just wasn't marketed well at all, and that's a real shame because I heard that it's better than what the trailers presented it as.
People who are making panic attack jokes: Shut up. Literally, shut the fuck up!
You're not funny. You're not creative. You're treating mental health issues a joke, and it's sickening!
Shame on you! ๐
@BabyLamb5
I remember being sad at this scene as a kid bc it's rare to see Mickey actually sad like really sad and it hurt my heart.
If I would've saw Mickey's Christmas Carol as it kid, it would've tore me up lol.
I almost forgot...
Happy 38th birthday to the bois themselves: The Super Mario Bros!
Mario and Luigi are some of my favorite characters in one of my favorite franchises of all time!
I love them so much and I don't know where I'll be without 'em! โค๏ธ๐
Stop supporting the Disney live-action remakes, PLEASE!
Don't watch them unironically.
Don't watch them ironically.
Don't even hate-watch them.
If you watch them in any fashion, you're giving them support whether you like it or not, and THAT'S WHY THEY KEEP MAKING THEM!
I just realized something:
The first Angry Birds Movie was announced in 2014.
The 3rd movie was announced in 2024, 10 years later.
MAN I'm getting old! ๐ฎโ๐จ
Tbh... Mario Movie.
Look Ik that film is not a masterpiece or anything, but damn I'd be lying if I said it didn't bring me immense joy!
It pretty much validated why I love this franchise sm. I met some awesome friends and artists here bc of it.
It helped me keep going, y'know!
People who genuinely feel bad for him also weird me out (like, A LOT).
Dude kidnaps civilians and tried to k*ll them with lava. He also forces Peach to marry him and plans on destroying her kingdom and toads if she doesn't.
Yeah, he's evil.
Completely deserved his comeuppance.
To add, I want to say that it's ok to love a movie that isn't groundbreaking or 10/10.
There are many movies that I love that don't break the mold, but I still love them either bc I connected with the characters, themes, art/animation, etc or a combo of all of them.
Stop saying that a Animation Company is better that another!
Disney Animation Studios has AMBITION
Sony Pictures Animation has CREATIVE FREEDOM
Illumination
Warner Animation Group has WACKINESS
Pixar has PASSION
DreamWorks has WILD CARDS
Blue Sky has POTENTIAL
The funny thing is that immediately after this frame, he gets angry at Peach and tries to k*ll her with his fire breath (and also during this scene, he attempts to m*rder his captors in lava).
The fact that some weirdos actually felt bad for him is INSANE!
I love Bowser btw. He's one of my favorite characters ever, but I think some people tend to forget that he's a VILLAIN.
Even with his few redeeming qualities, that doesn't excuse his terrible actions.
Glad the movie didn't make him a sympathetic villain.
If you're wondering what made me want to play TTYD even before the remake announcement, it's of all things Goombella.
I always loved her and her design, and she got me interested in the other characters and story.
You can thank HER for that!
GOOMBELLA ALL THE WAY!!! ๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท
I think Mario + Rabbids is a perfect example of how having a team who cares and is hella passionate can make even the weirdest concepts work so well.
Like you can FEEL the love for this franchise with these games (same goes for the DKC and Rayman DLC).
I love them so much! ๐๐
Bear with me for a second but I think Sparks of Hope has my favorite characterization of Mario in a videogame. Goofy world-saving daredevil with a heart of gold

Ok, now let me talk about the new VAs.
I know it's just one episode, but I like the new VAs for Paintbrush and TBD more than the old VA (especially the former).
For starters, they got actual Trans people playing them-

I'm so sick of so-called animation/film fans celebrating layoffs at studios, especially if it's from a studio they dislike.
Like, this isn't about you.
This is about the many skilled artists and people who had their livelihoods taken away.
Have some human decency for ONCE!
@BabyLamb5
I also like the attention to detail of the bag sounding hard when Spongebob was hitting it with a shovel instead of squishy.
Another great joke in a all-around hilarious episode!
A real shame the first part of this was cut.
I know it's small, but it adds so much to Mario and Peach's relationship.
The movie really needed an extra 10-20 minutes.
It goes WAY too fast, sacrificing some of the smaller character moments and the impact of the slower scenes.
I think this needs to be said:
PLEASE STOP TAKING ANIMATION FOR GRANTED!
Whether a show, movie or studio, you never know that one day a project/studio could be shut down just like that.
Embrace animation because it's such a powerful medium being constantly mistreated!
Sorry dude, but this is such a bad take.
CN Studios was very important and historic.
Having its entire legacy just destroyed all because a rich person wanted to save money is wrong on so many levels.
Don't treat this as melodrama, PLEASE!
Don't draw because you just want to get popular & nothing else.
Draw because you actually put your heart into it, and have ideas you want to develop so it can be great to not only other people, but to yourself as well.
Remember, art is not a competition.
It's art.
What? Like... WHAT??
People didn't show up to the original films because they were original. People didn't show up because they weren't good and were poorly marketed.
Saying this during the biggest Hollywood strikes of all time is very sad. ๐
Paramount CEO Brian Robbins says they are moving away from releasing original animated movies in theaters & instead will focus on IPs.
โWeโre not going to release an expensive original animated movie and just pray people will come.โ

Something that stands out to me with Mario Movie's art direction is just how vibrant it all is!
The colors reflect the mood of a scene (and character personalities) really well, and it seriously elevates even the most basic shots.
The color artists deserve more credit honestly!
This tweet was fine up until the second paragraph.
When will people know that movies are not canceled in favor of another movie? It's so annoying and disrespectful to the people who worked on those films.
#nimona
was fantastic. so happy i somehow managed to see it in theatres. blue sky went out with their best work i think.
can't believe disney shut blue sky down only to release lightyear and elemental โ ๏ธ
I'm glad we're all in unanimous agreement that Cocomelon sucks and there are much, MUCH better options for small children to watch.
So here's a thread on some great shows for the 2-11 demo that are better than Cocomelon:
Migration's marketing has been mostly light so far, which is surprising considering that Illumination almost always goes heavy with the advertising.
I don't think most even know that the movie comes out LITERALLY next week.
I'm worried tbh!
I hate how you're not allowed to be indifferent or ambivalent when talking about a piece of media on the internet anymore.
It's either the best or worst thing ever; no in-between.
Hell even the word "mid" is seen with a negative connotation.
That's the point: It's middling.
The movie had a great setup of this with Luigi being captured and we learn about his self-confidence issues during the flashback scene.
But as soon as he's locked up, the film drops that idea and his growth happens offscreen, which was very disappointing.
Deleted the thread once I found out that Taylor, Ame, and Loren are officially fired from the show.
This is a huge win not just for the osc, but especially for the black portion of the community too.
Doing this showed that they cared.
Good on them for doing the right thing! =)
@FandomSpongebob
@LoudToon99
As a digital artist myself, seeing people crap on digital artist and animators makes me so mad.
Digital art/animation is just as hard if not harder than traditional art.
Just because you're doing it on a computer doesn't make it easier.
I wish more people can respect artist.
Good morning everyone, and I still can't believe Taylor was fired.
Honestly, I thought they were gonna do the bare minimum and just fire Ame and Loren or worse yet, keep all three of them on the show and sweeping this under the rug.
But no.
They actually listened to us.

@FSlider64
This was also shown in Sparks of Hope when battling one of the spark hunters, Bowser doesn't want to be seen as weak in front of Mario.
Dude has a lot of respect for him and rightfully so.

About the theme of death in this episode, it's not just with (real) Bow and the constants.
It's also about the show eventually ending.
At some point you start to become jaded doing something you love and want to end it.

Genuinely I hope Mario Movie 2 has a longer runtime.
I can't stress enough how AWFUL the pacing was in the first movie. It's so bad it leaves me feeling dizzy every time.
It reminded me how important the slower scenes are in films: To properly flesh out the characters and story
Look at Mario's expression JUST LOOK AT IT!
He's on the verge of breaking down into tears after saving his bro just in the nick of time (like a few secs away from losing him forever).
IT WARMS MY HEART EVERYTIME FUUUUCK I LOVE THEM!!! โค๏ธ๐ญ๐
I didn't notice until just now, but a little detail I found in the Exit Interview thumbnails that in the left side, it shows part of the silhouette of the eliminated character.
That's a cool touch!

One of these days I will make a thread about how Movie Mario is a very well-written character and how he made me appreciate the character in the first place.
ONE OF THESE DAYS....
Mario is a nothing character with a personality of a carboard box idk why ppl like him let alone main as him.
Luigi isn't much better either he's an overrated and annoying mf who overshadows other characters including his own brother HIS OWN BROTHER!
Man these 2 fucking SUCK!!!
Mario Movie had a lot of great action, but the Rainbow Road scene has gotta be my favorite!
The animation, the music, the long takes, the BLUE SHELL?!
It captures the intensity of Rainbow Road in the games really well!
Easily one of my favorite action scenes ever!
