NERD ALERT...the atmospheric heights will be SO LOW tonight, anyone living above 4,000 ft or so (hello top of Mount Washington) will be in a different atmospheric layer entirely, the stratosphere! This layer is typically 4-12 miles up, but tonight it will be less than a mile!
The jetstream is about to get all sorts of bent out of shape in the next week or two...this ups the chances of bigger and more impactful storms...no guarantee where they will form or which areas will be hit hardest but definitely a time frame to watch
Craziest wind video of the day today...courtesy Lancaster Fire
Dash cam video from Lancaster chief car today on Brook St in Clinton, ma a roof blew off a building on the other side of the bridge
Drum roll please...The WBZ weather team is releasing our first official snowmap forecast for Saturday's nor'easter...2 feet possible, still some uncertainty but a major winter storm appears imminent
Not sure what’s more impressive… an object 200,000 miles away (the Moon) is lining up perfectly with an object 93,000,000 miles away (the Sun) to produce a shadow over us today. Or, that scientists can predict this phenomenon with exact precision hundreds of years in advance.
Updated foliage report...I gotta say, from what I have seen so far, this has to be one of the worst foliage years in new England in recent memory. Agree? Disagree?
INCREDIBLE and scary video
WASHINGTON AVE AND PINE STREET, BROCKTON
Harry Green:
I heard a boom ran over to the neighbors and banged on there door cause trees were on fire then house across the street caught on fire
A lot of the model guidance is showing a westward wobble as Lee approaches Southern New England, bringing it a bit too close for comfort...something we will be watching closely
I hate to say this on February 13 but this COULD be our last snowfall accumulation of the season. Nothing in the pipeline this week and it looks like a very warm end to the month. Obviously can’t rule out something in March, but…
You will want to tune in the WBZ around 11:40-11:45...we have a very special guest joining us...Hint: -former WBZ meteorologist
-here for more than 40 years
-Initials BB
This is another way to tell the nor'easter story, a winter severity index from NOAA...The red (Major) corresponds to the potential of major property damage/disruptions...the purple = potential for extreme damage/disruptions
Rough plot of some infamous loop-dee-loop storms, the Blizzard of '78, the Perfect Storm and the forecast for this nor'easter...obviously lots of other factors at play (time of year, tide cycle etc) but this track will be closest to southern New England of the three
Odds have decreased somewhat of a coastal hugger storm for Saturday...mainly focused on classic snow track and a more eastern solution...much more to come with model updates midday/early afternoon
Experts estimating 72 hours before the majority (95%) of MA residents have their power back. I cannot wait for the day when above ground poles and lines no longer exist...landscape much prettier and power issues a thing of the past...in our lifetimes?
Funny observation...when the meteorologist in the neighborhood (me) starts up their snowblower to test it, people take notice. Almost like the groundhog popping out of its hole.
Sunday night will be my friend

built a scale model of the WBZ set in his teenage bedroom. This Sunday he will give his final weather cast from his home studio once again.

"Barry, you're a legend." After 42 years on the air in Boston, meteorologist Barry Burbank gives his final forecast on WBZ-TV this weekend. Use the hashtag

I interned with him more than 20 years ago. Today he’s back at WBZ talking with

for our 1978 weather special airing on Jan 28. Bruce Schwoegler.
Drained the gas out of the snow blower and brought out the patio furniture. The kiss of death for spring. Winter should return within a few days.

Potential for a high impact severe weather event this afternoon and evening. Rarely seen atmospheric setup today in New England...could lead to multiple hazards including tornadoes and straight-line wind damage...we have you covered all day long on WBZ
Tuesday could very well be one of those days when most schools cancel early, like Monday evening. Not that it is a big storm but timing of snow probably will force most superintendents to pull the trigger.
We are so fortunate that Lee is not coming any closer...look at all that rain just to our east...3-6"+ would have been disastrous for our area right now given the summer we had
25 years ago today...the great April Fool's Day Blizzard...63 degrees the day before then, 2 feet of snow...one of the all-time "greats" in southern New England
Sticking with 6-12" forecast NW of Boston and 3-6" in the City...heaviest snow will fall in the first several hours (around midnight through early Sunday AM)...a little lull after that and then a final burst in the afternoon and evening
I think many schools will struggle making a call tomorrow...early in the morning superintendents will look out the window and see rain...but when the cold air arrives untreated roadways will ice up fast. Would hate to see early dismissal or regular school day with bus accidents
With a whopping 0.1" in Boston today, we managed to extend our record long streak of days without a snowstorm of 4" or greater, now at 718 days! What does it take to get a real snow storm in Boston?
We can Facetime with a friend halfway around the world...monitor our every step and heart beat on our wrists and essentially direct our lives from our handheld devices but if a storm comes and snaps the pole in front of our house, we are thrown back in to the dark ages
Getting a lot of tweets with folks ready to write off winter...yes it was a dull December but let me remind you, just 4 years ago (winter of 2014-2015) things were very quiet through mid January and then we got more than 100" of snow...not forecasting that, BUT just sayin'
Are we done? Looks like we have 1 or two more chances at snow (early and mid next week) and that could be it for the season! I would say we are within 7-10 days of officially sticking a fork in winter
Just a thought...with as far as we have come with technology, it seems archaic that our livelihood is dependent upon a bunch of wooden poles attached to wires leading to our homes for electricity....
Major changes to the forecast today in favor of the Celtics parade! Heatwave now looks like it will break Thursday night and Friday trending towards a cooler, drier day!
We are very lucky in New England to have some of the best forecasters not only on TV but at our national weather service. Crucial on days like today with such changeable weather minute by minute
My Final Fresh 7-Day WBZ Weather Forecast: A Cold Wind In The Rain Tomorrow, A Nice Wednesday Followed By A Good Slug Of Rain Thursday Into Friday AM. The Good News Is That It SHOULD Be Warmer Next Weekend.
