As a teacher, I HONESTLY don’t think there is anything better than when you read a story and you see a field of faces caught up in your every word. I had that today reading to EYFS up to year 6. Been a tough week and reminded me why I am a teacher #WorldBookDay2024

Probably going to get a LOT of hate, but is anyone DEEPLY uncomfortable promoting the World Cup in school when it is in a country that has an appalling human rights record, would jails and even kill LGBTQ residents, and arrest and jail a women because she has been raped?

You’re 13. You come on your period. You don’t know what to do but know you need to leave class. School have locked toilets and don’t allow children to use in lesson times. Read that back and come at me why your policy is ok.

If you are are a teacher saying you can’t afford to strike, I agree. I also know my dad had 3 kids (me one of them) and went out to strike so you could have your PPA. Imagine not having PPA. He lost wages for that. And you now Benefit as a teacher.

When life is hard I remember I went back to work after 4 weeks when my husband died. I didn’t have lunch as would have to drive to my babies nursery to breast feed. I raised 3 kids alone. I am enough as a mere teacher. Family first.

Things I couldn’t do without a TA. 1) Interventions. 2) Support for children who need it in a class of 31. 3) Going to the toilet. 4) Having a friend in class. 5) A warm cup of tea when I come back from break duty. 6) Navigating drama so I can teach. TAs rock 🤘

At 8.50 today the snow fell. I was about to start a music lesson & realised what is the actual point? It was snowing. They haven’t seen show for 2 years. I let them run around and scream for 15 mins and catch snowflakes on their tongue. Then went back to class. Pick your battles.

My baby turns 13 tomorrow. I just got incredibly emotional wrapping her presents. Her daddy died and never got to even see her first birthday. I’ve done this on my own and had doubts if I am enough. I rang my mum. Mum’s are great aren’t they. I am enough and he would be proud

Positive SEND story; My son was excluded from school in year 8. He went to a PRU & it didn’t work. College was a saviour. He’s now full flow as an electrician but is also a DJ. He’s doing his first set tonight. Music always got him through. Proud mum. He’s 19 and smashing life.

The story of Piggy is so exciting. The brown dog buried it on a walk yesterday. His owner tried to find where he had today but couldn’t but the little dog led him 3 fields away from where we walked and dug Piggy back up. And yes I’m writing a story it’s so incredible 🥰

13 years ago it was Rob’s funeral. 30th March 2010. I had many beautiful cards full of love. I will never forget this finger print flower card made by my EYFS class at the time. They will be 17 now and will have no idea how much their little finger print has kept me going.

Presentation and expectation. My class nearly fell off their chair when I told them they could use pen if they wanted today. No trial period. No need to earn it. Just I have high standards and show me. They all showed me. Point made for the 4th year in a row. Ban pen licenses.

I’ve been a teacher for 15 years + & I’m still learning. I often find NQTs teach me lots. I’m not in the slightest arrogant enough to think just because I have years under my belt I am a better teacher. A good teacher is a reflective teacher who recognises we continually Learn.

For those who are confusing the issue, a teacher strike has absolutely nothing to do with how you feel about your SLT. The strike is about frustration, hurt and overwhelming upset over GOVERNMENT failure and a degradation of our profession by them. Not your SLT.

I am reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe to my kids at home as well as school and forgot my school copy so have dug kit my childhood version. Edmund is such a turd he doesn’t even make the front cover 😝😝 Who had this version as a child?

Remembering Rob. Happy Father’s Day to the dads who are present, the ones we remember in our hearts and memories, and to the mums who are doing both jobs.

Feeling tired and blue tonight and a wee bit lonely. Half term for teachers isn’t a break always. It is a time for us to recover. I feel exhausted and know I will spend this weekend under a blanket watching movies or reading. I’m emotionally and physically done. 1/

I’ve cancelled meals with friends. We have cancelled a work Christmas night out. We’re not going to do a whole school shared buffet now. Staff meetings on hold. Masks, social distancing & bubbles in play. Teachers are putting safety first across the country. Please remember that.

I’ve sneaked my son’s first ever drill into his kit bag for next week. Pay back for all the pranks he has played on me over the years…

Judi Dench was on Graham Norton last night to push her new book about her life and work with Shakespeare. After making the point we quote Shakespeare daily without knowing it, this happened:

It sometimes hits hard when you realise how many years of love and life you were robbed of. Thinking of Rob. It will be 13 years tomorrow since he died and not a day has gone by where he hasn’t been missed.

10 years have passed away without you. You missed that baby becoming a beautiful child. You missed your son becoming a man. And I just missed you.

If you want to know strength, it is my middle dragon. Her dad died when she was 6 months old and she doesn’t find things easy. She told me she wrote this when she felt low to keep herself strong. She just won the competition to be in a poetry book. Love her.

Our timetable is super tight. After checking it was ok to do, the last half hour on Friday I’ve called ‘Our time.’ I get to chat to the kids, learn about them as people. They can do what they want. This is what happened today. In 30 mins. Imagine if we had more time for this.

I’m really pleased I made the decision to swap to hessain. I hope the room will feel calming and the children will love it. I made it with love. My author wall looks sensational in my new class library. Thanks you so very much to all who helped make it special for their return.
