12 year old came in for his 1st session last night. I asked him what sports he played. His answer: Football, baseball, soccer, basketball. I then asked him what his favorite sport was. His reply: “eh it depends on what season it is.” KIDS AREN’T SPECIALIZING!!!
PARENTS ARE
Kids love to play. They love variety and solving different problems. They also love to compete. Try everything and let them decide what they love to do

My kids will never specialize until there in high school and even then I will encourage them to play at least 2 sports. We make it a point to have them rotate sports seasonally so they don’t get burned out. I know Urban Myer is a huge believer in multi sport athletes
@Scuzzy1184
Love it! Definitely agree with high school being a time to start narrowing down if they are going to specialize at any point. For example: Off-season training in the spring/summer for varsity football may be more important than playing baseball
@T_Cortazzo
Josh knew what he wanted in 8th grade. We tried to persuade him to do other things. He was focused and we just tried to keep him healthy and happy. It was ALL him.
@FitLine_Keli
However he played multiple sports growing up before 8th. He’s also in the minority of athletes who receive a D1 scholarship. Traveling to camps/showcases and off-season training both baseball and speed/strength 100% helped him get to where he is now.

I can’t believe you don’t have have 20 responses on here that’s say “but MY Jonny loves baseball. It’s all he talks about so we let him do it”
@T_Cortazzo
It’s unfortunate, in many instances, it’s the coaches who really make them decide on one. I agree parents too, but I’ve seen too much of it at the high school coach level.
