The #EastlandComplex remains at an estimated 54,513 acres and 80% contained. At the height of activity, between local, county, state and out-of-state responders, the complex had 403 personnel and 122 resources fighting the flames and assisting in evacuations.

Wildfire response required a lot of resources in 2022, with 402 agency personnel and 4,452 out-of-state firefighters and support personnel from 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. 132 aircraft also assisted, dropping over 11 million gallons of retardant.

On Sept 4, 2011, warm, dry air from Tropical Storm Lee which sat over Louisiana, and an advancing front moving in from the west converged over Central Tx producing a very-high potential for extreme fire behavior. That Sunday, at 2:30 PM, the historic Bastrop Complex Fire started.

Desert-willow is a small tree that grows up to 25 feet tall and occurs in West Texas, on dry, gravelly, porous soils and dry stream channels. It is a popular tree to plant in central and south Texas for xeriscape landscaping. #SpeciesSpotlight

Trees along rivers clean water and slow down flooding. In 2015, flooding along the Blanco River destroyed 13,800 trees and benefits they provide. Now, Aggie Replant students are taking steps to bring them back. See photos and videos at #AggieReplant @TAMU

Just as doctors prescribe medicine to an unhealthy person, natural resource managers may prescribe fire for an unhealthy ecosystem. Prescribed burning can improve and maintain healthy and vigorous wildlife habitats and protect homes and communities.

πŸ”₯ In 2022, over 2,800 wildfires have burned across the state. Of these fires, 50% were caused by debris burning and equipment use, including welding, roadside starts from cars parked over tall grasses and farm machinery.

Texas A&M Forest Service and @TXMilitary are conducting a prescribed fire on units 7 and 29 on Camp Swift property in Bastrop Co today. The objective of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuel density.Β Units require a min of 6 mph winds, and winds are expected to be 5-10 mph.
