@Josh_R_Cook @SynthesiaDev The particles (and live hands over an LED-lit keyboard) are added in post using video editing (or at least custom) software. We've heard the request a few times now and are investigating how we can make the particle effect in the app a little closer to something this... fancy.

@danmilward It's hard to recommend only 25 keys. Synthesia will let you play any song with only one hand at a time, but even single-handed you'll probably bump into one of the edges of the keyboard pretty regularly at that size.

@DeltaLink_26 Hmm, is completely flooded with the generic, bad adapters. Usually we recommend things like the E-MU X-MIDI 1x1, the Roland UM-ONE, any of M-Audio's adapters... really, anything from a company whose core competency is audio products.

@Denise_Isaac_M The pixel-mixer icons were just stock icons (like the Internet "globe" icon on some of the buttons). I've always been the one making the effects. That said, I was hoping to add newer effects at some point.

@JoseESanguino The general advice is to buy from a company where audio/MIDI products are their core competency. Names like M-Audio, Roland, and Yamaha come to mind. As long as their "job" is audio hardware, it should work. Beware of companies that have a wide assortment of unrelated products.

@RamyMoustafa Do you have any MIDI files with quartertones that I might be able to inspect? Outside of using pitch bending under the hood, I'm not sure how they would even be encoded. The MIDI file format is pretty clunky when it comes to any sort of microtonality.

@Zoop_Dewoop Try the app. If you connect a digital piano, it will wait for you to play the next note correctly. That makes it a little less real time and gives a better chance for comprehension. I wouldn't call that gall. ;)

@pianochaz10 @GASpriggs Beyond the finger-hint mechanism we've already got, this is actually something I'd like to tackle in the future. Ideally there'd be some pedagogically-correct, animated 3D hands showing you how things should be done. There's a mountain of work between here and there, though.

@tomincognito The built-in synth uses WASAPI which is already pretty fast. We're hoping to add ASIO support eventually, but for now you'll need a third-party DAW that supports ASIO and then use something like loopMIDI or LoopBe1 to send Synthesia's output to the DAW.
