@roughghosts I do both, but poetry is almost always in Arabic. I think it has to do with the range of emotions it makes available, which is different but also wider maybe. It could also be a kind of innate vs acquired awareness of sound, though Arabic being what it is that's very complicated.

@AmericanMaghreb I thought the word برقوق meaning plum came from his name, not vice versa. In the Levant plums are خوخ, and peaches دراق. It's possible that برقوق comes from the Egyptian Arab verb برّق meaning to stare.
