So golf is banned on this perfect day because Doug is worried you might go out for a few pops with your buddies afterward. Guess what? The only people who would have done that today after golf are the ones who are STILL planning to do that today WITHOUT golf.
Erik Karlsson getting an earful from Logan Couture – on the ice and again on the bench – right after an empty net goal last night that was 100% Couture's fault. Not a good look from your leader.
Leaf fans out here freely throwing around the NHL term "50 in 50" like it's not a classic, well-defined, well-established NHL benchmark. And then loading up my mentions with furious, insulting replies when I respectfully correct them. It's fun. 😂
Dear Eugene: I have some time on my hands so allow me to jump in and fix this for you.
Step one: Stop talking publicly to anyone about your hockey team.
Step two: Continue with step one forever.
I’m deadly serious. Do this and your team will eventually be fine.
Set play in OT. One guy goes off on a line change at the D door. His replacement comes enters the ice at or near the F door and is wide open for a breakaway. Clever as hell.
I get being sore at Ridly Greig because your team lost and he dunked in your face. But if you’re defending a cross check to the face as the right way to respond, you need therapy.
A thorough 6-2 Saturday night beat down of the Blue Team! Zero sign of the third period meltdown that all of us half expected. ZERO! After a tough week, a crushing of Bluey was just what the doctor ordered.

Today was my final show on
@TSN1200
. Thanks to Bell Media for a great run. I had a blast and I’ll miss it. Excited now to head into free agency and seeing what the next chapter brings.

If you didn't know hockey, there's no way you'd think that the smallish guy wandering in the background, rockin' the man bun, on crutches, looking like he's lost, is the NHL's most coveted free agent right now.

My son, skipping joyfully through Westboro, thrilled to be carrying the new 2018 toy catalogue he’s been waiting so long for. I hope you all find this level of happiness at some point this week.
Chicago TE Zach Miller snapped his leg in half while catching a TD yesterday and NO ONE was even remotely suggesting it wasn't a catch. He got two feet down, fell to the ground, rolled, realized his leg had come off, then released the ball. NFL took the TD away. Total disgrace.
- Leafs losing on a Saturday night. Sweet.
- Leafs losing at home on a Saturday night. Awesome.
- Leafs losing at home on a Saturday night while facing a goalie who's a 42-year-old Leafs employee who might as well have been out there wearing ski-doo boots?
Priceless.
The restaurant owner makes high quality sandwiches. One day he notices he has fewer customers. Rather than doing things to entice them back, he starts using cheaper ingredients and ends up with even fewer customers. How does that business strategy make sense to anyone?

Fun fact: I'm pleased to have signed on as the lead writer and publisher of
@TheHockeyNews
's new Ottawa Senators page. It's all Sens and it's totally free. I hope you'll bookmark it, add it to your daily routine, and share it with other Sens fans.
Just got a note asking, "You're still tweeting about the Sens...?" Made me laugh. It's not like've been pretending for the last two decades. I'll always be head over heels in love with having an NHL team in my hometown and will always enjoy engaging with other like-minded fans.
I was a victim of
@ian_mendes
in radio, where they discourage anything more than a quick on-air mention of the announcers they terminate. The morning after I was let go, Ian ignored that and even told our listeners, "Steve Warne helped build this radio station."

Claude Julien probably still has a job if he hadn't lost 3 times this month to last place Ottawa. And Julien wouldn't have lost any of those games if his boss had drafted Brady Tkachuk.
In my son’s world, any day is a good day for tower watching. One of the gifts of autism I admire: His ability to find wonder and joy in things so freely.
Yes, I understand, I didn't really watch Bieksa at all when he was playing. But look at the way he lets Hossa walk out here. I feel like this is the only play I needed to see to make an razor-sharp assessment on Bieksa's 808 game NHL career.
My son’s language skills snap into focus when he thinks he’ll get McDonalds out of it. It was nice to get a mention in his list of 5 favourite things.

Gave my dad a hand today for a doctor’s appointment at the Civic. There’s nothing quite like 4 hours in a hospital waiting room, seeing patients of all kinds coming and going, to make you stop being quite so broken up about where Mark Stone will play hockey.
Some people think Duchene wasn't here long enough to merit a video tribute last night. It's not a jersey retirement. It's not the hall of fame. It's 60 seconds of video highlights to say goodbye a guy. Sheesh. You'd rather they play another Spartacat shell game instead?
Brooke Henderson is a great golfer, for sure. But just think. 3rd round leader, golfing hope of a nation on your shoulders. And you go out on Sunday and shoot a 65 in the rain to win? I mean, wow. That's a mental strength most of of us cannot even comprehend. And she's 20.
In their 6 year existence, they've had to endure being in 15 playoff series, 4 Conference Finals and an unthinkable 5 year wait between Cup Finals. But somehow, Knights fans "never wavered." My god. How did they possibly get through it? Let their devotion serve as an inspiration
The podcast has gone dark for a bit as, unfortunately, my Dad passed away on Sunday. Thanks to all of you who've already sent along kind thoughts. Some of you wished you'd had a chance to meet him. So this is what I'd like to tell you about Len Warne:
Last year, he was a 25 yr old RFA, under Sens control, an all-star, led Sens with 23 goals. Not only was he not re-signed, the Sens walked away from him and got nothing in return.
Update: Duclair leads the first-place, undefeated Panthers in scoring.
Just got an encouraging note from a good source who's close to the DeBrincat family. "Alex is happy in Ottawa and likes his teammates a lot and is having fun. He is not a typical star. He is beyond humble and he isn’t hiding. What you see is what he is. I hope they sign him..."
With weather as stupid as this, I think they should declare it "Sit Wherever You Like" night. Fill that lower bowl with hard core fans who braved tonight's conditions - and everything else going on - to support the team.
Punching the Blue Team in the face on a Saturday night when your barn is filled with enemy fans. Tonight may go down as the most important moment in Marc Crawford’s bid to stay on.

I know how horrible and controversial this statement is going to be on this particular platform but I'm going to say it anyway.
I love watching the 2018-19 Ottawa Senators and I'm pumped to watch every game.
So he gave short answers. So what? How the hell does an interview with zero profanity, nothing offensive at all, rise to the level of something that an NHL GM needs to address? People offended by that need to pick up a gd newspaper and find something legit to be pissed about.
Don Sweeney says the Bruins "will address" Brad Marchand's "crispy", curt remarks to the media following Game 6, but the self-serious reaction to it has been pretty over the top as well
I learned tonight Alessia Cara has sung every Canadian hit from the last 2 years. I believe she's also the lead singer of Mumford and Sons. She does it all. Anyway, that was one of the better performances in Grey Cup history.
Even in the Sens' current state - dead last, no playoff hopes, deep DEEP concerns about the way the club is run, heavy underdogs tonight - I still sit here, an hour before game time, looking forward to watching my hometown team play a hockey game. Hope springs eternal, I guess.
Since the Sens are happily willing to pay DeBrincat a whopping $9 million next season, a long term deal seems extremely realistic. Man, I suddenly feel like I'm covering a different franchise.
I'm hearing the Sens are believed to be rumoured to be close to acquiring a player or pick. According to my sources, there have been whispers from insiders, who suggest there's a lot of buzz about this evolving possible story. You heard it here first. Reportedly.

We all want justice, but it's going to take time. Some reminders while we wait:
1) Public silence isn't an admission/implication of guilt.
2) Public denials without a provable alibi aren't proof of innocence.
3) Twitter accusations and outrageous speculation help no one.
When I was 10 years old, our coach had a rule: you shake the guy's hand. There's kids watching, you're role models, and if I was a teammate of his I'd tell him to smarten up.
The Sens lose a first-round draft pick for leaving out information during a deal for a marginal player.
The NHL leaves out info about the Pinto and Dadonov investigations during a billion-dollar deal for a hockey franchise? Ohhhhhh, that's totally fine.
Carey Price showing he is one of the classiest athletes in all of sports. The young man (Anderson) idolizes Price and his mother, before dying of cancer, promised she would try to help them meet. It finally happened. Both feel the emotion as Anderson’s dream finally comes true.
Everyone has bad days. Not everyone helps people through those bad days. I have nothing but respect for the way Watson picks up Reinhardt here. This goes beyond leadership.
Senators' owner Michael Andlauer is in the stands tonight. Seats on the glass. Surrounded by fans of the team he used to co-own. That's friggin' ballsy. And I like it.
Claude Giroux on the talk about Smith's future : "It's getting pretty old, the fans and the media talking about D.J., it's pretty frustrating actually. He's our coach, he's not going anywhere. We want to play for him. It's just a distraction we don't need right now."
#Sens
Impressive. Courageous. Inspirational. Then that heart-melting moment right at the end after he says, "They've earned this as much as I have." I am now openly rooting for Bobby Ryan.
"I’m doing very, very well. It’s been trying at times but everybody’s been very supportive.”
Bobby Ryan spoke to the media today for the first time since entering the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.
Two multi-millionaires who could literally do anything they wanted to do this weekend. But in the middle of their summer, they happily chose a trip to Windsor to be with their coach – honouring him, supporting him and his important event. These guys are gold.

Just listened to the podcast from this morning's show AFTER SLEEPING IN FOR A CHANGE! 😀 I want to thank my friends
@TSNHammer

and the good listener. Not many people get to walk off the stage with an on-air tribute like that.
"Don't let anything steal your joy, even when you've been dealt an unexpected hand." At the time, I was talking about an autism diagnosis. But that's probably good advice for anyone.
Wow. Max Domi's antics and yelling "waivers" at Zack Smith. Combined with Gallagher's act, mix in a little Shaw, and my dislike of the Habs is now officially at a blue team level.
As promised, I now consider this a successful season.

Congrats to

for the Athletic. I won't forget the incredibly nice things Ian had to say about me the day after I parted company with the station. But that's Ian. Not only a pro, but every bit as kind as you'd imagine. 👏
I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. I’d rather have Tkachuk than anyone from the 2018 draft. After two summers of gym time, his game is going to erupt.
The LA Fox TV broadcast is currently making a case for how beautiful these old

uniforms are. They closed the intermission segment with, "C'mon, Ottawa. Bring these uniforms back."
News! I'll be hosting a new podcast that starts this week. First guest is one of my favourites and a guy who really took our old show to the next level.
An interesting first period enforcement of fan code of conduct. A fan at the game was just told by security to put down his ‘Take Eugene Not Karlsson’ sign or it'd be confiscated.
Just clearing out my childhood home. Found my wonderful old table top hockey game. I know my Dad stashed it away so we could play again at Christmas someday.
Like we used to.
Love this pic! Every time I looked over yesterday,
@BradyTkachuk71
was down on a knee, talking to a

player. So impressed with his awareness to how much it means to many of these kids to speak with them at eye level. Thanks for the kindness

SENS WIN!!! Leafs blow a 5-1 lead at home and fall 6-5 in overtime to the Sens!! Dadonov ties it then wins it in overtime. Sens haven't scored 6 in a game all season. Wow! Just...wow!
I need a cigarette...
There's an etiquette to how you treat an NHL opponent in a blowout. You don't put your top power play out there late in the game just for fun. You don't put your top centre on defence just for fun. And you don't put your emergency goalie in just for fun. Respect them to the end.
As the Caps continue to rain blows down on the
