Spurs announce that head coach Gregg Popovich’s wife Erin passed away earlier today.
“We mourn the loss of Erin,” said Spurs General Manager RC Buford. “She was a strong, wonderful, kind, intelligent woman who provided love, support and humor to all of us.”
Popovich releases statement on the departure of Tony Parker:
“It’s difficult to put into words how important Tony Parker has been to the Spurs franchise over the past two decades. From his first game in 2001 at age 19, TP has impressed and inspired us..."
The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Will Hardy and Tim Duncan will be added to Gregg Popovich’s bench as assistant coaches.
“It is only fitting, that after I served loyally for 19 years as Tim Duncan’s assistant, that he returns the favor,” said Popovich.
Vassell on the late-game execution: “We're a young group. It's our first game so we can't overreact, we can't panic. It's a 48-minute game. We were up a lot of times. Credit to them. They're a good team, they weathered the storm. We just gotta end up executing. That's all it is.”
And with that Emanuel David “Manu” Ginobili — the most beloved athlete in San Antonio sports history after helping the Spurs win four of their five titles with his unorthodox style — ended his remarkable career.
Twenty years ago today, everything changed for San Antonio professional sports and their lifelong, often demoralized fans. An oral history told by coaches and players details the year S.A. became Titletown for the first time.
"IMMENSE GRATITUDE to everyone (family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, fans) involved in my life in the last 23 years," he said via Twitter. "It's been a fabulous journey. Way beyond my wildest dreams."
Manu Ginobili, arguably the most beloved athlete in San Antonio sports history after helping the Spurs win four of their five titles with his unorthodox, unpredictable game, announced Monday he is retiring after 16 seasons with the club.
Wemby recently took a tour of San Antonio with his teammates and Spurs great Manu Ginobili, taking the time to hit a crazy half-court shot at The Pass and dabble in some table tennis, plus trek through one of San Antonio's historic missions.
Only eight rookies have averaged 20 & 10 over the past four decades. Wemby is on pace to become the ninth.
He'd also be the first rook in NBA history average 20 & 10 while playing less than 30 mpg
Victor Wembanyama on pace to be the first rookie to average 20 points & 10 rebounds in a regular season since Blake Griffin in 2010-11. Would be the first rookie since Shaq & Mourning in 1992-93 & 4th rookie ever to average 20 & 10 & 3 blocks per game for the year.

"We got a famous saying in San Antonio, it's pound the rock and it has a deep meaning," Victor Wembanyama said after Sunday's 40-point loss to the Clippers. "It's not about how bad the struggles are going to be, but how persistent we're going to be."
How could it be that a player Popovich once called the future face of one of the NBA’s most stable and storied franchises is now set to play his home games in another country altogether?
“He has been an absolute perfect role model for me,” Mills said. “I wish that every young kid in all of sports had a role model as close as Manu has been to me."
Popovich said the plan will also help Murray “feel part of the group” and “not isolated and sitting in the training room all the time, which gets pretty boring.”
Pop on Wemby preserving through foul trouble: “I thought his maturity showed, even at a young age. He came in the last 7 minutes and just played. We ran some stuff for him, he executed. A lot of guys would've been totally out of it by then … I thought he had a wonderful outing”
“He made it cool,” said San Antonio native Jordan Clarkson said of coming off the bench. “He came in there, impacted the game. He wasn’t a starter, but he did great things. He kind of opened the door for a lot of sixth men who came after him.”
