A reminder of how Nintendo utilised our website when making Super Mario Maker on the Wii U - notice the stray orange pixel under Mario's mustache? It somehow matches exactly with the background of the Mario sprite sheet that appeared on Spriters Resource... 🤔
In case it isn't clear, we're psyched about this, not unhappy at all. This is precisely why the archive should exist - if it didn't, who knows if this game would have even been made?
When
@tobyfox
first released Undertale, he included a note in the sprite data directing people to not upload them wholesale, to mitigate spoilers. It mentioned us directly as somewhere to upload the less weird stuff. It was changed a few months later, into a bepis joke.
@tobyfox
Since then, he has also shown that he uses The Spriters Resource when using his own sprites, such as in newsletters and other pages, by accidentally including the same purple pixels seen in the background of the sheets on the site. Glad to see he finds the site useful too 💞
Finding out how much impact we've had to influence the incredible artists of today is truly heartwarming. The team cannot express enough how much this means to us. Thank you all, seriously 💕
Within the data of Astal, a first party Sega game on the Saturn, is a bizarre sprite of Mario. This doesn't appear anywhere in the game, and why it appears in the data is unknown. Perhaps just an internal joke!
You can find it on Spriters Resource here:
Another day, and incredibly, another 1,000 followers... Thank you all so much for showing us that, despite being part of the ancient internet, we can still kick it on modern(ish) platforms too. 3,000 of you have made us old fogies feel young again - we're riding the wave!
@Voultar
I'm not sure how these two points are related. Nintendo doesn't need permission to use their own assets regardless of where they get them from. They're not "taking advantage" of us. Please don't use the positive point we're trying to make a platform for this, justified or not.
It seems people are enjoying the new Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door rips 😁
A curious game in which the majority of content can appear on both Spriters Resource and Models Resource - quite the rarity!
Dazz will be taking a break from working on the site for a while to take some time to process his mother's passing. This may cause some delays in the new site renovation, and processing submissions.
Thank you for your understanding.
@tackangel
These two points have nothing in common. Nintendo does not need permission to use their own assets, regardless of where they get them from. Please don't use the fun fact we tweeted as your platform to promote piracy.

If you're talking about the original rips showing up on tSR, yes - he just asked us to wait a while until people had a chance to see them in context but was otherwise okay with them being on the site.
A reminder that you may see us roaming around on Twitch. Give us a follow, as we will be doing some preliminary random streams soon to experiment before our proper plans come together.
Also always looking for streamers you suggest we should follow!
Early promo, as we've not streamed yet, but we're looking to regularly stream on Twitch after we finish the next version of The Spriters Resource. Link in replies!
Also, recommendations on pixel art & low poly model creators we should follow appreciated! Looking for inspiration!
Thanks to all of our new followers!
We never had a platform besides our website to reach users - hopefully we can hear from more of you now!
Your helping us reach users of the sites means a lot & is hugely appreciated. We will eventually link here on the new site version!

We will slowly be showing off new features and providing updates on the progress we are making on renovating the existing websites. We can't show anything just yet, but be sure to follow to be the first to hear about how you can get early access to help test it!
People sometimes complain about how long a pending submission on our sites takes to be approved or rejected. Without simply getting more volunteers to assist checking submissions (finding people who can & want to is hard), what suggestions do you have to ease our queue system?
The new site still has a lot of work left to complete, but some of the already implemented new features are massive for helping reach new artists and improving discoverability of references. Feel free to give us suggestions for the sites, and we will put them into consideration!
@Citrea_Anguis
Sadly this isn't viable; we monitor content before release to verify it isn't malicious in any way. Allowing users to directly upload content so unsuspecting users will download it without verification will be result in waves of broken, messy, unusable content- or worse, viruses
@yanako_rpgs
Thank you so much! We've had no real outreach for a long time, felt it was time after beginning work to update the website for massively increased functionality. We look forward to sharing incredible sprite work (and more!) here in the future! 💜 We love this community so much!
@lotovik
😭 This means so much to us, that's extremely kind. I can't believe the influence we have had on so many incredible artists, it truly makes my heart sing.
@Lean_CD
We didn't until just over a month ago really. We made it for future updates to the site, which aren't complete yet... This isn't even our final form.
@timeextension64
As an independent website away from automated DMCA acceptance, Graceware have issued a DMCA against Spriters Resource. We countered each issue, and got no response, resulting in no action being taken. This included claims against custom art of the characters, which aren't valid.
@timeextension64
This, to us, demonstrates an automated attempt to remove the game from the internet and not a conscious human effort. There is no logic to the claim and no proof of ownership, but large video platforms accept the claims without any confirmation - an even larger preservation issue
@RetroGamer_Mag
Monster Tale on the DS was an extremely underrated title; released exclusively in the United States, it introduced a pet raising mechanic and switched the typically adult themes of the genre to appeal to a wider, family-friendly audience. Very charming pixelart included!
@Julio2006BR
It can vary, based on several factors. Zips take longer. Sheets without icons take more time. More niche games require more time to review on our side. Non-standard arrangement can too. We're working to improve review times with the next site iteration.
@scornedache
Too many to list, and we also want to keep some a surprise :)
We have already revealed plans for a more integrated submission process, an overhauled layout, a dark theme, and submission tags to improve navigation though!

All of the ones I’ve dealt with have come from Web Capio on behalf of Graceware. I’m pretty sure they’re automated and then, if the content isn’t removed or they receive a reply, an actual person steps in.
@silassterling48
You're complaining about a message left on a sprite sheet around 10 years ago when the site was in its infancy. We explicitly state in the site's FAQ that there is no need to credit anybody for a rip.
