Southern Vectis colleagues remember Alan Cooley who sadly passed away on the 4th April 2022. Alan painted hundreds of the islands buses by hand & he had a very special trademark The Mallyshag caterpillar. To read more about Alan please click the link
We're proud today to be celebrating our 15 brand new Enviro 400 MMC buses added to service. Costing £3.7m, the buses produce fewer emissions and a greener way to travel. The buses will be use on routes 2 and 3. 🚌🚌🚌

10/2/2004 |Here is the "pink punishment bus" at Carvel Lane in Cowes, once the site of Cowes railway station. It was painted pink as transport from school for "naughty" kids and gained a certain notoriety as a badge of honour.

Here is Ford Transit 255 at the bottom of Union Street in Ryde. Wearing the blue Wanderer livery it is seen on route 6 which ran between Ryde and Tesco. New in August 1985 it had a 16 seat Carlyle body.

Bristol LHS 837 is seen here on one of the Medinabus town routes that carried red destination blinds. New in 1975 it was withdrawn in 1982. It carried green & white NBC livery matched by the bus stop flag. The driver is using a Setright ticket machine.

Throwback Thursday ⏪ Here is a trio of open tops at Yarmouth bus station in 2007. These 3 generations have all operated the route from Yarmouth to the Needles. We still run an open top 'breezer' service on this route. The views are simply breathtaking!

Bristol LHS 202 is seen in Yarmouth wearing NBC green / white livery. In the mid 1980s there was a weight restriction on the Yarmouth bridge until a new bridge could be installed so single deck buses had to be used. We love the old cars on this one too! 😊

headboard was used for Cowes & Gurnard services. 3 of these vehicles were delivered in 1981. These days 202/3 are preserved & 204 is a static home on the mainland.

Here is a great shot of Bristol MW 806 with Alum Bay in the background whilst heading for the Needles Battery on route 42. It was new in July 1966 and withdrawn in March 1977 it returned to the company in June 1988.

Throwback Thursday ⏪ Dennis Dart 810 is seen in Bembridge on 22 July 2004 having just arrived from Ryde on route 1. This bus was 1 of a batch of 6 carrying rare 8.5 metre UVG bodywork – similar (but longer) vehicles were order by IW Council for their bus fleet a year later 🚌

Here is one of the road trains we operated on Shanklin Seafront. It was later painted in the orange & yellow livery. It went on to live in Llandudno. It did make a reappearance at the Bustival event at Havenstreet in 2010! We else loved the road trains? 🙋♂️🚂

This Bristol VR 650 was repainted in "Vectis" livery in 1979 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Southern Vectis. This bus was new in August 1976 and was withdrawn in 1989. It later operated in Scotland.

In 1979 we painted this Bristol VR 650 in Vectis livery to celebrate our 50th anniversary. The bus carries adverts for the Weekly Post and was withdrawn in 1989, later moving to Scotland where it operated with 3 similar vehicles from the Island.

Our Nelson Road depot in Newport has its own bus wash! Here one of the Volvo B7s with Plaxton President bodywork is been treated to a scrub up. These buses were new in 2002, 2 of them are still with us as open toppers, the rest moved to the mainland!
