I’m so happy to announce that I successfully defended my PhD.
What an unforgettable day and I’m so grateful that the most important people in my life were all there with me to celebrate. What a privilege.
I cannot wait to see what’s coming next. Time to explore 😊
#phdone
My aim is to always update my thinking and have lifelong learnings, but with the calmness and acceptance that I can never know it all and therefore to surround myself always with people who know more than me and complement my strengths and weaknesses 😊🙏
@inigomujika
From my morning run today: What a track🤩 Kudos to France, they are creating the arenas (track, pumptrack etc. in a lot of small villages) to produce future champions and, more important, supporting active lifestyle 🙏
First Granfondo for me today. A hot race and some mistakes that cost me a lot of time. Sucks to come second… but fuels the fire 🔥 one day, maybe.
What a privilege to be able to ride my bike and explore this region 🙏 Les Vosges, I‘ll be back. But first, need to relax🙃😴
The „real“ mountains always hit different. These are no Mickey Mouse climbs and descents. Always got to respect the power of nature. I have some months of eating humble pie ahead.

Productive lunch with
@OyvindSandbakk
🙏 Always great to catch up and even better in person. Appreciative of our friendship, your mentorship and looking forward to our forthcoming projects!
I want to be so fit again I can spend all day outside on my bike, on my feet, with people I care about. The better my fitness, the better the coffee, the less moaning from my side 😉 simple 😂
Today the moaning was relatively high 🇫🇷🇮🇹🇫🇷 working on that fitness…🤩
Forgot my bike computer and guess what, it turned out to be one of the best rides I‘ve had in a while. No data in my face (just on my wrist, occasionally checking), just smelling the roses and enjoying the air in my face 😊🙌 very good couple days with loved ones🙏
Submitted 🤯 It took me about 30 minutes to press send. Finally, but damn does it scare me and make me feel vulnerable, yet also excited at the same time. One (big) step to go.
Imagine waking up to this😍😍😍
(photo taken from a friend doing Mt Blanc tour).
A 4000er to climb this year… suggestions? (I have little to no Mt. experience)
The beauty about triathlon is, you never get a perfect day but you can try to adapt and make the day as good as it can be.
Tough race. But maybe the harder the better🙂 Ventouxman 🥉
Complexity is like energy. It cannot be created or destroyed, only moved somewhere else (Tesler‘s Law).
The human body is too complex to understand without ambiguity. But November is not the month to chase numbers but a time to recharge and practice patience.
Last 18 months have been complicated. Ups and downs. Still pretty unstructured training but joined a friend 2 weeks ago for a 5km and was actually not as bad as expected. Re-starting with some of the basics now, enjoying good company, freedom of choice and muddy runs🤭
Health and riding a bike is a privilege. Don’t waste it and never take it for granted. 100% ok with my decision to pull out the race and go easy instead of risking illness. Pleasure is the measure. It’s a long-term process 📈
Driven by the fear of being average. Doing my due diligence of taking the possibilities to learn and understand life and myself better every day… 📝 It was a good day.
On the back, I have to tilt my head to one side, which feels awkward in the neck. Maybe a pillow-problem?
On the side, the arm under my body always feels "in the way".
Anyone have any recommendations (incl. pillows) other than chopping an arm? 3/3
That needs some time to sink in🤯 still blown away by the experience
@alpe_triathlon
Many learnings and things to do better, but I’m proud for not throwing in the towel on that run. The day had a special meaning to me (28.07.2007 🙌)🥺
+ hike in ⛰ best thing to recover and 👀❤️
4th ride after covid.
HR/HRV have been normal since 7 days but I’ve been hesitant to add on too much too quickly. No wearable can detect the whole picture entirely and no device can tell me the real demand of this session either.
Relieved to see that external load vs internal demand from a metabolic perspective using lactate seems to be back to pre-covid levels 🙂 5x 10‘ at 185W, picture from last rep.
6x 10min ~4:10min/km, 2min rest today (lactate 1.6-2.3mmol).
No carbon-plated shoes, no music or podcasts, just the ⭕️🔁
I think if I would learn how to use my glutes I could be fast 😂🥲… one day maybe.
Fine line between fit and fucked hey. Currently puzzled about what’s going on but linearity isn’t a thing in any process. Focus on taking one smart decision after another and we’ll rise again👊 Grateful for people looking after me 🙏
Very interested in the maximum sustainable energy expenditure model mentioned by
@olavaleksander
. A simple physical concept but hard to apply in practice. How do you quantify the 'energy budget' (isn't it a moving target?) + how do you quantify the daily 'debt' or margin?
Really missed the feeling of completely ‚being’ in a training session😍 such great value to me!
fitness is pretty average but getting into the habit of a training process again feels great.
@TStellingwerff
It would be great to see/hear the same from some of the best female endurance athletes. The more real world examples that manifest the importance of the 4th discipline, the better. So important for the development of girls/women in endurance sports...
Another 2nd place fueling the fire😉 this time easier to accept as I checked my ego at the door and didn’t really race this one considering scorching heat, female phys problems and two races coming up that I truly care about😉 solid day out learning & more heat adaptation 👌🫠
Twitter, I need help:
My ambition is to improve my swimming but I'm going in the wrong direction despite being quite consistent and I have no explanation. Does anyone do or know someone who does swim consultancy?
Swimming ~10-12km/wk quite consistently.
Goal: sub 1h IM swim time
Tourist for a day in my home country. To put it Sartre‘s way „L‘enfer, c‘est les autres.“🫣
BUT going to the top of a mountain still always inspires and motivates me, because going for the top is the ambition I have in everything I do🙏🔝
#journeytothetop
My grandma turns 94 today. What a privilege to have her in my life. How she lives gratitude and works hard on herself is my biggest inspiration. She’s such a resilient and smart woman. I can’t wait to celebrate her tonight and I won’t take any moment with her for granted❤️
Another 2nd😂👍 but chuffed to bits after a tough 2 weeks. This morning I had no idea if I could even finish. Scorching heat on ADH ended almost in heat stroke. But what a great day to ride a bike…
#privilege
🙏❤️ thank you Alpcycles &
@benjlain
for support on course🙂
Just one example.
Winters are no real winters anymore. Ski resorts without snow everywhere. The implications and consequences are manifold.
Climate change is not a pandemic. It doesn’t seem as imminently dramatic. Maybe a reason why people don’t get it…change has to happen now!
I grew up here in
#Gstaad
and learned skiing on this slope in the 70s. Back then scientists had evidence that fossil fuel causes warming. This is Jan 1, 2023.
Climate science is my profession, but this is where it gets personal.
When do we understand that we need to change?
@max_stoneking
@feelthebyrn1
@Alan_Couzens
@joelfilliol
spoke quite eloquently about it in
@SciTriat
podcast released today. I don't think it's straightforward at all, but he rationalises it really well.
IME, and especially for an amateur, reducing life stress > creating a perfect taper from training load perspective.
The true value of feeling fit for me?
The ability to run or swim at an easy pace without gasping for air, taking in the moment, focusing on the next step/stroke.
Think that not everyone has the health/freedom to move & very few have the fitness to enjoy it ❤️🏊♀️🚴♀️🏃♀️
Appreciate the days when you feel high, because the lows will come inevitably. Being able to accept that and going through it is what I understand as personal growth.
Pause, process, plan, proceed. No panic 👊🤞
Dear FEMALE ENDURANCE COACHES. We are getting a good response to our study of coaches’ insights and predictions on endurance training. But, so far, 95% of the respondants are MEN. Please HELP!
Miles, smiles, bumpy French roads, a new helmet and a two-bidon strategy that I should not use for the upcoming races 🥵 I freakin‘ love to ride my bike❤️
Last few weeks have been a nice reminder that not all work was for nothing. The foundation is there, the joy is back. I can do ok and even win (even if it’s a meaningless small French tri). It’s between the ears, that has to be right😊 not sure what‘s next, it depends🙃🤓
@Alan_Couzens
@OyvindSandbakk
said it perfectly on
@SciTriat
podcast (I’m paraphrasing): Listen to your body, it tells the truth. Do your thing. You don’t have to win every training, you have to be able to adapt to every training.
👌👌👌
Out of personal interest: does one ever feel ready to do an ironman (long distance)? Which athletic indicators /prerequisites would you name to complete one in a competitive time?
Out of context: special motivation kit today 😊🙏
Mallorca wasn’t entirely what I had hoped for but it was still a nice time☕️❤️ However, seeing the mountains is what makes my heart beat🙃🙂 they represent life for me… way to go 📈🤩
First run race in 3 years. Just a little fun hit out. Biggest challenge was to pin on my number, took me about 15‘😬
Quite happy with the effort today, now just gotta learn how to run up a hill, downhill I can do🥳🤩
Btw, you don’t win races by having the most perfect heart rate.
HR-to-pace is a good indicator of fitness but can be deceiving when you’re fatigued (or very fresh, on the other side of the spectrum). Don’t obsess about it.

Got the memo once again that the body takes what it needs. Not sure where this journey is going but it is a unique learning experience…
Health, joy, and a bit more patience…then we will see 💃
