I love Apple Park; it’s stunning and refreshing. However, the open floor plan and shared offices are the
#1
contributor to lowering my productivity. I often find myself hiding out in conference rooms or working from home whenever possible in order to actually get shit done.
@Sommer
the heat is what kills me there. but cafe macs pizza is great at least
omg i didn’t realize it was you sommer when i first saw the tweet! hope things are going well; we miss you. :D
@Sommer
I love the option of an open area where many people can work near each other, but ALSO the option of a private area where you can be isolated and think something through. I don't hate open plan, but I'm not crazy about doing it all day every day
@Sommer
But somebody randomly tapping on your shoulder while you have your headphones on and are in the flow is great collaboration that wouldn’t be possible otherwise
@Sommer
This reminds me to a recurrent conversation we used to have in my previous London office:
- Hey, I haven’t seen you in a week
- Yeah, I had a ton of work to do so I worked from home
@Sommer
So glad to read this post. I've been in software for 40+ years, and when I voice this opinion people often accused me of just being "old school".
