Doctor Who Fan, silly optimist. Join me at the Library of Impossible Things! Part of the

Years ago, back when the Internet was less than half its present size, I used to go and meet the stars of Doctor Who and try to stand back to back with them. Over the next few weeks I'm going to share some of those photos from the Si Hart Camps It Up With The Stars archives.
Fans of classic children's TV may like to know that a new exhibition at
@RHSWisley
has a display of Ivor Wood's puppets from the TV series The Herbs. Come and see Parsley, Dill, Sage and the team in the old Laboratory Gallery!
Maybe it's a symptom of my mental state right now but I actually don't care what anyone else thought about Doctor Who. All that matters to me is that I really, really enjoyed it.
Things we forgot... The TARDIS dematerialising during Wild Blue Yonder. Where did it go? Who was in control? Was it really the HADS? That was only a guess after all...
People who like Doctor Who are perpetually wanting to cancel Doctor Who because it's not like everything else in TV or film.
It's very tiring and I just want Doctor Who to continue because I really love Doctor Who. So there.
I think perhaps the Eccleston to Tennant regeneration might be the best of New Who. Perfectly judged to be reassuring and moving without huge speeches or mawkish moments.
I'm old enough to remember when
#DoctorWho
was a proper, serious science fiction programme about giant mafia lizards cosplaying as humans to take over a space holiday camp.
The BBC has revealed that
#DoctorWho
episodes (including any episode from 2005 onwards) were streamed over 10m times on iPlayer over Christmas. Lots more statistics incoming.
Bernard Cribbins. Grew up with him being the Wombles , the voice of Jackanory. Always a reassuring presence.
Then Wilf and wasn't he brilliant in Doctor Who? Always a joy, always full of life.
A legend!
Anyone who says Tom Baker wasn't committed in Season 18 should watch Full Circle more carefully. His fury at the Deciders is magnificent and one of the 4th Doctor's finest moments. It should be talked about more. He's phenomenal.
Watching Frontios tonight. I wish Peter Davison had had material like this to play throughout his run because he is so energised by playing an actual character.
Just watched Part 4 of Caves of Androzani. I think there's a good case for it being the single greatest episode of classic Doctor Who there is. It doesn't let up for a second and builds and builds to the Doctor saving his friend and giving his life. Astonishingly good episode.
This is exactly the kind of thing I heard in libraries all the time. People look down on many genres as somehow not worthwhile reading from romance to graphic novels to sci fi. It doesn't matter what you read. It's not a competition. Read what you like and don't worry about it.
GUYS! Sci fi is for children. It is a YA genre. Doesn’t mean it’s not good or whatever but you should grow up a little. Same for Tolkien and Lovecraft and all the rest. It’s great but it’s for the kids.
As ever, it's nearly time for a new series of Doctor Who and I'm excited and can't wait to see what it brings. 42 years since I first saw the show and I'm still utterly enchanted by it, every time.
We are so sad to learn that our dear friend Pamela Salem has passed away.
A brave and courageous fighter, a talented lady, gentle spirit and a positive shining light in a sometimes darkened world. She will be missed by many, and our thoughts are with her family.
My beautiful bunny Rosie died this evening. We had ten and a half years together and I'm going to miss her so much. She was feisty and fierce but mellowed so much the last few years. We had a cuddle and she passed away on my lap very peacefully.
40 years ago (gasp!) quite simply the most exciting, thrilling and amazing Doctor Who story of my childhood broadcast. The Five Doctors. Endlessly quotable, my go to story for being cheered up; it's the perfect celebration of 20 years of Doctor Who.
Hello!
I'm looking for Doctor Who fans who'd like to guest on a new podcast I'm starting soon. Come and bring a Doctor Who object you love to The Library of Impossible Things .
If you'd like to be a guest please let me know. I'm ready for your objects and your story.
The Sound of 007 was incredible! A great selection of themes and music from the films. Sat next to Colin Salmon and above me in the box was only Barbara Brocolli and Michael G Wilson! Fabulous!
William Russell's readings of the three original Target books are really magical, only beaten perhaps by his amazing reading of The Dalek Invasion of Earth. He had such a wonderful voice, even late in his life. I had many happy hours listening to those talking books.
If you wish to see more of my tweets, you will need to supply photographic ID, a proof of address, a working phone number, an explanation of why you want to read them and swear an oath on a copy of your season 18 blu ray set that you will never leak them or share links.
It's easy to magnify the worst of Doctor Who fandom (and there are some deep dark gutters they reside in) but I know, from the friends I have here and in my life that they're a small minority.
Let's celebrate the best rather than the worst.
It's funny isn't it, how, my nephews and nieces who have known me as a gay man all their lives, just accept it, have no problem with it and have grown up to be inclusive and wonderful people. Kids learn bigotry and intolerance from adults around them.
The Wrath of Khan is so good, isn't it? It sets the pattern for just about every Trek film that follows, Kirk (or Picard) face off against one big villain.
It's tense, exciting and fun and uses the characters in an exemplary way. Damn near perfect.
Today's Camping It Up Star was probably the Doctor, maybe. Yes It's The Valeyard himself, Michael Jayston. This was a very early photo from the series, second one I think, taken on the same day as Richard Franklin's. Michael looked a bit scared about standing back to back.
Today's photo comes from a hot day at Longleat in 2003, where I stood back to back with Doctor number 6, Colin Baker. We both put a lot of effort into our poses that day!
Negative COVID test today! Phew!
After nearly a fortnight I'm very glad to almost nearly be better. Anyone who says this is easy, it's mild, it's over in a couple of days got off lightly. It's still best avoided, believe me.
People of Twitter, I'm about to watch the Doctor Who "adventure" Underworld.
I'm putting this out here in case I end up being strangled by own intestine to stave off the boredom.
Today's photo is one of the very earliest, when I first set out on this crazy quest. Tenth Planet in Barking is our setting and our star today is Richard Franklin. When I asked him for a back to back photo, quick as a flash he said, 'How about a front to front!' cheeky sod!
