Being on a team is a commitment, it’s time we treated it like that again.
I’m in our clubhouse (locker room) and it’s dead silent. I have 5 players in here early.
THIS is why next season I’m banning cell phones in the clubhouse.
I honestly believe this is hurting our kids communication skills.
This is Bad. D3 Students deserve better!
A student athlete reached out to me yesterday. He didn’t know how to respond.
This is bad. This is really bad. If I was a baseball coach (any type coach) at
@AMCAT_Baseball
I would be having a very firm conversation with James Duggan
Parents, your 8 year old doesn’t need video hitting Analysis or Track Man, Rapsodo. Know what they do need? Dad Go play catch with them, tell them to get their butt down to catch a ground ball, set their feet to throw, get them a Tee to hit off of, throw BP, & get ice cream after
Kid comes to me and says, “I’m a Shortstop.”
Me: Great, go play left field.
Kid looks at me confused
I ask, do you want to play in college?
Kid, Yes sir
Me: Your 1st 2 years there will be upperclassman in front of you. If you want to play earlier, learn other positions.
Hot Take:
Homework from school is BS.
You get 8 Hours a day to teach. Figure it out, let kids have more time for socializing, sports other extra activities and I know this is controversial….
QUALITY TIME WITH THEIR FAMILY.
Okay, this may break baseball twitter……
I get it, you don’t want to bunt, you want to hit.
As a coach, I want you to hit too! However, you strikeout way too much with runners on, and you don’t know how to move runners over to score runs making productive outs.
Getting
If I’m coaching there are only 3 reasons why your child isn’t playing. So you never have to ask, “Why is my child not playing? “
1. There is a problem in the classroom - in that case the teacher should tell you.
2. There is a problem at my practice - in that case I’ll tell

HS Players Don’t worry about how your college coach will handle it If your parents are over reaching, bothering coaches, shouting instructions or yelling at everyone..
It will not effect you while playing college baseball.
Because you won’t be playing college baseball.
Dear Umpires, stop acting like it’s a bother to be at game that we paid over $1500 to play in. The last thing we want to hear at a tournament is “hey let’s hurry up and get this came over with.” If you have a problem with this, stop umpiring.
Of the top 5 players that I’ve ever coached:
-I never had to tell them to:
-Get a foul Ball
-Run a ball out
-Carry equipment
-Run on or off the field
Special players don’t have to be told to do the little things, they understand the little things make them Special.
Kid:I want to play D1 ⚾️.
Me: Buddy, you just struck out 3 times against a guy throwing 78. If you want to play D1, I need you to be able to turn on a 91mph fastball.
Kid: I’m going to go play for another org. that coach says I can go D1.
Me: that coach is lying, he wants your💰
13 years ago today! Wow, 2008
@brewers
We Started it all! One hell of a team! I’m honored to be a part of it. This is my favorite moment as a professional
#ThisIsMyCrew
Here you go, don’t listen to anyone else. This is one of the absolute best pure hitters of all time. Build your whole hitting philosophy off this, it doesn’t cost you a thing…
15 years ago today. I had one of my biggest moments in my career and pushed
#thisismycrew
closer to ending a 28 year play off drought.
“I was out of my mind. I threw all fastballs, upper 90s to 101. It was pure adrenaline. No one was hitting me that day.”
George Kirby was visibly frustrated postgame.
He gave up the game-tying two-run homer on his 102nd pitch.
"I wish I wasn't out there for the 7th to be honest."
Says there will be a conversation soon |
#SeaUsRise
I saw a kid post that he was
#uncommited
today on my feed. 2.1 GPA and a 78-80 mph fastball class of 24.
These kids think college is little league, you just sign up..
I covered his name, I’m not trying to embarrass him, but whoever is telling him these numbers are enough to be
Baseball Coaches have favorites. They are usually the kids who
-Have talent
-Don’t strikeout looking
-Don’t walk everyone
-Work hard
-Have hustle
-Have that dog in them
-Hate to lose
-Can get a bunt down
-Don’t miss signs
-Show up early
-Have Respect
-Pick up equipment with out
I’m going to burst some parents & players fragile egos here. I’m sorry (not sorry) but I only speak the truth.
If you are a talented and worthy player, It’s hard to be overlooked. The Sports world is too connected.
-If you play HS
-If you have good to great grades
-If you
Playing sports teaches life lessons, kids who are selfish, don’t show up, aren’t accountable & find shortcuts, grow up to be adults who are selfish, don’t show up, aren’t accountable & find shortcuts.
It’s not about getting to college to play or going pro, it’s about growing up.
The
@Jaguars
one game away from making the playoffs and their huge turnaround from last years complete 💩 show should be a much larger story. There is zero national coverage of this.
0-2 count in high school….
Most High School Coaches are calling a curveball….
1-2 Most High School Coaches are calling back to back curveballs.
Last time I checked, it’s not a crime to expand the zone with a fastball.
Stop trying to TRICK hitters and just BEAT them…
As a high school coach, take the time to invest in your JV and feeder programs.
Even if you don’t get a superstar from them, you will always get depth.
Solid depth will provide great role players and will make practices very competitive!
Iron Sharpens Iron!
First, this video is professional Baseball and this is a professional baseball take.
This isn’t what amateur players should do. Coaches & umpires should handle these issues
BUT PROFESSIONALLY,
I have zero, and I mean zero problem with the sequence of events in this video
I’ve applied for 7 hs jobs the last 2 yrs. Interviewed 5, killed the interview in 4. Zero hires.
In the last 3 yrs, I was offered 6 PC positions in college, was asked to apply for 2 college HC jobs, offered 4 PC positions in Pro & 2 managerial positions in Pro
See the problem
All of my HS players arms are sore (3) weeks in to our throwing program.
Me: “This is great, they’re getting stronger and we are on track to be game ready week 1.”
Kids and Parents: complaining and panic…
Being sore is part of the process… feeling good “All THE TIME” means
12 yr 80 mph
13 yr 83 mph
14 yr 86 mph
15 yr 88 mph
16 yr 91 mph
17 yr 94 mph
18 yr 96 mph (Pro) 98 mph
19-21 yr 99 mph
23 and up 103 mph
My top Velocity Progression
I bunted 5 times in a game this past weekend. I told the kids “I have seen enough of you guys swinging out of your shoes and missing. If you are tired of bunting learn how to put the ball in play.” “Get them over and get them in.”
Strikeouts absolutely kill an offense.
This is a problem, there’s a huge double standard. This is disrespect from a ref to a player..the disrespect is that so many other players do this same thing, and don’t get the technical called..So this refs mentality is, “well I’m not taking this from this guy, he’s a nobody” BS
Parents, DON’T be the type of parents who just cheer for your own kids & maybe your best friends kid.
- learn as many kids names on the team
- Cheer for them all
- Get off your phones
- Talk and compliment other parents and their kids
A group of positive interactive parents
I coach travel baseball, my kids get college looks, they are coached hard & correctly. I don’t chase after a kid if they decide to leave my program. If you can’t handle being taught correctly & evaluated honestly. I don’t want to deal with you. Sometimes problems just walk away.
I have asked one player to leave my program in 8 seasons. It was due to the parents actions. I felt terrible for the kid but toxicity in the stands is worse than dealing with a bad kid.
I hate playing in tournaments for ⚾️ . It’s not really meant to be played that way. As a travel ⚾️ coach I have to bend & play tournaments because parents want to play in them.
I’d rather play 4/5 games a week, Tue, Wed, Thur & a dh on Sat.
Practice Mon, Fri. 15 man roster.
11 years ago tonight game 160 I had the most memorable outing of my career! Thank you
@brewers
and the fans in
#Milwaukee
for remembering me.. it was and is an honor to be a brewer!

Just a heads up, the pitch “Sweeper” isn’t a new pitch just developed.
No, driveline didn’t develop it.
It’s called a slurve it’s been around for decades. It’s just a curveball thrown harder on a slightly different axis.
I had a dad just ask me for lessons with his 7 year old.
He said “I just want my son to enjoy the game. What can I do?”
My response,
“ Play catch with him, throw him bp, hit him ground balls, cheer for him at his games, don’t over evaluate his performance after games”
Shout out to my nephew
@McclungMac
for winning the

contest. (Again)
You’ve come a long way.
Man those judges sucked. Someone give this kid a chance in the league.
My career was in my own hands &parts of 7 seasons n the MLB is very respectable, u made TB miserable for lots of players, definitely abusive in the way you treated ppl.u R proving me right with ur post&my ego fragile? The fragile ego is urs buddy.arent u supposed 2B bigger than me?
Aww. Still blaming me for your failed
@mlb
career
@bigredbball73
? Might want to let go of all the blame on others, and start blaming it on your fragile ego and your 5.46 career ERA. Can’t believe parents shell out money for you to coach their kids. 🤮
I’d rather have a kid who (somewhat, not full blown temper tantrum) struggles with his emotions when they lose, rather than a kid who is nonchalant about losing after the game.
A couple things that guys say that I immediately stop listening to them.
I played Semi-Pro
I tried out for a AAA club
I would have went pro but (any reason)
My High School Coach didn’t like me
I’m all my years of helping kids get college ⚾️ opportunities not one college coach has asked me what a kids batting average was.
#gamechanger
is over rated.
Good Grades? Good Kid? Can he play? How’s his parents? Can he afford to come to school?
Check Yes on those questions.
Never been accused of having favorites, but parents I’ll tell you this, coaches do have favorites. The kid who shows up early, stays late, says yes sir no sir, hustles to everything, gets foul balls with out me asking, doesn’t miss signs, gets a bunt down. THAT KID. Definitely a Favorite
If you where taking over a HS program.
- Small town mentality
- Decent facilities
- Young team
- Amazing teams around them
- 11 losing seasons in a row with most of them very lopsided.
What are some of your first steps to change the culture and build a program?
HS Players
Don’t disrespect yourself, your family, your school, your coaches or your teammates with your actions.
Maintain Solid Grades and behavior in school.
Play, Train, Practice at 100 % effort, lead with your actions.
Story time…
Recently, I had a player and his dad come ask for my help with getting the player into college to play baseball.
I watched the player and he had some solid raw ability and I actually knew a few Jucos he could play at that would help him develop and move him along
My wife is out of town with my step daughter, my older children are with my ex wife.
I have the house all to my self.
I’ve watched baseball and ufo documentaries all day. The tv is loud as are my phones.
Dishes on the coffee table and
I’ve only gotten off the couch to go
Hey buddy! I hope you had an awesome time at the game! You probably don’t know me, but I’m a former Brewer and it’s fans like you who made Milwaukee my fav place to play and why I still consider myself still a Brewer! On Behalf of all my former Brewers Teammates, YOU’RE AWESOME !
Star Wars night was not in our ticket plan but my son really wants to go. I told him he could pick our seats. Funny thing was I didn’t give him a limit (I would have just said, no- try again 🤣) & he went right to 440 bc he wants to sit by Bernie. I love this kid.

Serious high school athletic teams practice and play through winter and spring break. (With little time off)
Take your vacation in the summer. It’s a privilege to play High School sports. Make the sacrifice.
Parents
-Tell your kids No
-Follow through with discipline
-Don’t allow back talk
-Let them fail
-Hold them Accountable
-Teach Manners
-Teach empathy
-Teach respect for authority figures
Change the world one child at a time.
I’m excited to announce I’m being recruited by
@HokiesBaseball
. I was “selected” to attend a special elite camp!
👍🏻👍🏻💰💰it’s only $325
Do you know how many parents tell me this after they get this same MARKETING “recruiting” email?!?

People from back home in
#WestVirginia
often ask me why I didn’t sign with WVU. I had wanted to sign with
@WVUBaseball
during high school. I was a kid from WV, I thought my community would really stand behind that decision.
I met head coach of WVU Greg Van Zant at
Things I hear,
“I played a little simi-pro ball, I almost made it.”
“I was good in high school, had a try out with a AAA team. I turned it down though, went to work, but I could have been a big leaguer.”
“I played college ball, yeah I was pretty good, had an injury so I
If you’re undersized, under skilled, Don’t go to a “Showcase/College Camp.” You wont show well there. But, if you play for a team that puts you in front of colleges and you hustle your butt off, make some plays, be a leader, your chances just got better to play at the next level.
Player “Coach I wanna play baseball the next level.”
“But it has to be in state,
Has to be D1,
I have a 2.5 so they have to work with my gpa,
And I can’t pay anything to go.”
Me, “You don’t wanna play at the next level, you just like the idea of playing at the next level”
To all my single dads out there.
Keep your head up during the holiday season. I know you’re buying for everyone and very little if anything comes back to you.
I’ve been single since 2014 and most Christmas’s Fathers days and birthdays, I’ve gotten very little.
It’s not the
I can tell you with about 90 percent accuracy who’s going to win just by watching both teams Stretch, Play Catch and their IO.
Teams who take those things seriously over teams that don’t.
Squatters rights?
Are we serious? Dude, I’m going to be real with you, if you’re in my house and you’re not supposed to be there I’m shooting you. No hesitation.
HS Coaches, Do you need some help with your pitching staff? Need advice? I’m here to help! Reach out, no 💰, I’ll do whatever I can. If you’re close maybe I’ll swing by, if you want a zoom chat with your staff, let’s set it up, a phone call to talk? I’m here.Let’s grow this game!
If you’re a parent that instructs or coaches from the stands & you’re not a former pro player or coach, stop it.
Don’t come to practice & coach your kid. If you have to, bring a notebook write it down & tell them later.
I don’t want MY PLAYER looking back at you the whole
I don’t understand how we can cut, demote Major League players, we’re always looking for the best players to fill spots. But the umpires have a guy like Angel Hernandez still collecting checks in the MLB. It’s disrespectful for him to be on an MLB field. Time to option him down
If you are cheering for a teammate to fail or you enjoy it when a one does. You are the problem. Hate a guy or love him, you’re on the same team same goals. No matter how much I hated a guy I was always excited when they had success, that meant our team was succeeding. WE over me
I was on the fence about a kid if I was going to keep him on my travel ⚾️ team. After practice was over, I heard him talking extremely poorly to him mom.
That’s it for me. If you can’t respect your mom in public I’ll never have your respect. I’m not bringing that into my program
I get asked about weighted balls all the time.
Basic answer, young kids under 16 shouldn’t use them
Deeper answer, young kids under 13 shouldn’t use them. Older kids should understand it’s a high risk decent reward type workout.
If you do it correctly, it could really help
When I say launch angle is dumb, or the 1 knee catching is trash, or anything really ⚾️ related, I’m not looking for a debate from ppl who’ve never played or who have 200 followers or ⬇️. I’m informing you with knowledge. So, don’t try 2 debate me,I don’t care about your opinion.
Do you want to hit in college? You MUST be able to hit a 90 mph fastball.
You all are feasting on sub 84 mph pitching, having great statistical seasons but when you get higher velo you struggle. You’re not college material. Stats don’t make you a college prospect, your skills do
With NIL, there should be zero guys sitting out bowl games due to professional aspirations.
You are paid to play so, play.
Before NIL, I supported the sit out due to putting yourself in the draft.
This is what we call being a bitch. (Excuse the language but that’s the term)
Clean play, then you jump up like the runner did something to you?
At some point you drawl the line and act right.
