We are all one HUGE family. Always have been, always will be.
Please do not tear each other down or point fingers at times like these.
We need to stick together as one and send all of our prayers and positive vibes to Ryan, his family and everybody involved at this time. 🙏🏻
Multiple drivers greet Dale Earnhardt during driver intros for the 2001 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona.
5 year old Chase Elliott jokes around with Dale as he walks by.
Quite possibly the most underrated part of
@DaleJr
’s talent in the booth? You would never know he is an owner. Every time his cars are on the screen, he treats them the same as he would any other car.
He is a true professional and a dang good broadcaster.
Hideo Fukuyama became the first Japanese driver in Cup Series history when he raced at Dover in 2002. He drove the No. 66.
Kamui Kobayashi became the second Japanese driver to ever start a Cup race, driving the No. 67 today.
The coolest part?
Today is Hideo’s 68th birthday.
Dale was called “Dale Earnhardt Sr” in an interview with Ralph Sheheen before the 2000 Daytona 500 and quickly made that point:
“No. Dale Earnhardt. Dale Jr.”
It might sound crazy now but years down the line when
@DaleJr
’s career is over we could be looking back at the most overall talented career in NASCAR history.
His driving, ownership & broadcasting careers could all easily get him in the HOF on their own one day.
One of a kind.
I just made a deal with my girl.
If this gets to 3,000 retweets, she’ll come with us to
@TooToughToTame
and wear this treasure to the Southern 500.
Retweet, retweet, retweet!!
...and maybe the coolest thing you’ll see all year, via
@PettyMuseum
on Instagram.
Richard Petty recreated this picture TODAY of a photo from the 1975 Winston Cup banquet, wearing a suit that his Mother made for him.
Just thinking about the difference between the way the Daytona 500 was once presented & the way it is today.
I will forever long for the days of a starting lineup w/ a serious and intense tone. One full of real faces, cars & other identifiers that help set the story of the 500.
I’ll forever miss VL interviews.
There’s just something about watching a car drive into VL. The anticipation of them climbing out of his car for the first time, with their entire team right there cheering and celebrating with them. Doesn’t feel forced.
Absolutely perfect to me.
NBC does an absolutely incredible job with post-race coverage.
They always go in-depth, down to even showing the winner climb from their car in Victory Lane.
The amount of interviews and analysis is in its own stratosphere.
We are extremely lucky to have them.
What kind of “regular” jobs did some of the Late Model drivers have in 1995?
They talked to a handful of drivers before the race at North Wilkesboro to find out.
22 years ago today: The debut.
To put things into perspective…
- His first race was on TNN racing against Dave Marcis & Dale
- Won under five different Series names. Winston, Nextel, Sprint, Monster, Cup
…and he is still winning races 22 years later. An insane career. HOF.
An account on YouTube (Rob Hurley) just uploaded a bunch of incredible personal pre-race/practice/race footage to YouTube from the pits at WG.
This is the kind of stuff that gives me goosebumps.
Huge thanks to
@ryandaleydesign
&
@speed_visions
for the heads up!
An example:
Seeing all those flashbulbs illuminate the night sky is unreal.
Can’t even imagine what it must have felt like for drivers during those pace laps. Absolutely electric.
Watched this one again a few days ago.
I can’t get over how perfect the pit interview with Tony Jr is. No forced questions. The moment could breathe and just felt so natural.
Oh and the moment on the track? Goosebumps.
The only current NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL players/NASCAR drivers that were active in their respective sport on September 11th 2001 are:
Tom Brady. Albert Pujols. Kevin Harvick. Kurt Busch.
All four are champions, future Hall of Famers & some of the greatest of all-time at what they do.
Former BKR Truck drivers finished 1-2-3-4 in today’s Cup race at Phoenix.
Add in the fact that Austin Cindric won the Daytona 500 & Daniel Hemric won the XFIN title last year, it was an incredible pipeline for talent.
Rusty Wallace presented Bill France with 500,000 pennies to pay for a $5,000 fine in 1997.
Penske Racing South had already sent NASCAR a check to cover the fine earlier in the week.
Talk about a vibe.
Ted Musgrave climbs out of his car, walks off the track and straight into an interview with ESPN.
(Also check out how Bill Weber smacks that WKPT microphone out of the way to give the ESPN mic full exposure)
On-board footage of Dale Earnhardt following Dale Jr during the 2000 Daytona 500, their first 500 together.
Ironically, Dale Jr is racing right behind Michael Waltrip in this clip.
I am incredibly excited to announce that I have teamed up with
@NASCAR
and will be helping to create content for their website, social media handles and more.
NASCAR has always been my passion & I’m so thankful for the opportunity to make a positive impact.
My life is a dream.
Junior Johnson’s car rolls over and catches fire during the 1953 Southern 500, his first career start.
He then climbs from his car as other cars are still blowing by, takes his shirt off and starts putting out the flames with his shirt.
Insanity.
Cale Yarborough’s eye for talent as a car owner is often overlooked.
When he stepped back from driving, he split his seat with Dale Jarrett.
A few years later, he talked about putting a 20 year old Jeff Gordon in his Cup Series car.
Mike Joy turns 73 years old today. For perspective on the longevity of his career, him calling races in 2023 is like:
Ned Jarrett being on TV in 2006
Ken Squier 2009
Buddy Baker 2015
Bob Jenkins 2021
Eli Gold 2027
Allen Bestwick 2035
Rick Allen 2043
Dale Jr in 2048
This is the kind of history that fuels my passion.
Walking through that building, thinking about Alan Kulwucki’s story, is something I’ll never forget.
Glad to have been part of the crowd at Bristol to see an underdog almost come out on top yet again.
Petty and Inman. Waltrip and Hammond. Earnhardt and Shelmerdine. Gordon and Evernham. Johnson and Knaus.
To me, the magical pairing of Kevin Harvick and Rodney Childers absolutely deserves to be in the top echelon of duos in NASCAR history.
You want NASCAR to grow? Simplify!
Litter race week areas w/ show car/driver appearances
Commercials w/ drivers
Sell diecasts of every driver, everywhere
Drivers & cars on products in supermarkets
FOX got off to a rocky start when they angered NASCAR, the sponsors, drivers and owners during the broadcast of the 2001 Budweiser Shootout.
FOX chose to not include the sponsors on the starting lineup graphic of the companies that did not buy ad space during the race.
Came across the Spring ‘07 race at Bristol on FS1.
The whole broadcast feels so natural in comparison. The booth is relaxed, in sync and accurate. Four pit reporters, which equals getting tons of great info.
Clean graphics. Real driver photos. Minimal camera zooms.
Man…
The finish to the 1993 Daytona 500 is known as “The Dale and Dale Show” but it’s truly extra special because of being such an incredible family moment.
The look in Ned and Martha’s eyes as proud parents? Priceless.
Thinking of the entire Jarrett family at this time. ❤️
This was the first Cup race since my Dad passed away on Tuesday.
Richard Petty was his first favorite driver. He was also born in 1943.
Seeing Erik Jones take that No. 43 to Victory Lane tonight?
Goosebumps.
(P.S. EJ is SO dang underrated)
25 of the top-30 drivers in Cup points have at least one career XFinity start for Dale Jr, or a Truck start for Kyle Busch or Brad Keselowski.
Chris Buescher, Justin Haley, Michael McDowell, Ricky Stenhouse & Ty Dillon are the only drivers that have not.
One thing that we never think about that technology stole from us is moments like this, where flashbulbs illuminate the sky during iconic moments.
This one, being the start of the first Winston Cup race under the lights at Daytona in 1998.
Goosebumps.
Sunday marks the final time Kyle Busch drives the No. 18 for Joe Gibbs. The last Cup race held where Kyle was not a member of JGR was the 2007 finale.
Some drivers in that race:
Mark Martin. Dale Jarrett. Bill Elliott. Ricky Rudd. Bobby Labonte. Sterling Marlin. Kyle Petty.
Every winner of the Daytona 500 in a year that ends with “3” has either won 7 Cup titles or once drove for the Wood Bros.
1963- Tiny Lund (WB)
1973- Richard Petty (7)
1983- Cale Yarborough (WB)
1993- Dale Jarrett (WB)
2003- Michael Waltrip (WB)
2013- Jimmie Johnson (7)
2023- ?
The fact that NBC can send
@DaleJr
to literally any event just highlights how much of a natural and incredible talent he is.
He looks right at home no matter what he’s talking about and the best part is that he always seems to have a blast doing it too.
Came across this incredibly cool home video footage from the infield following the 2004 Daytona 500.
I absolutely love stuff like this. It always makes you feel like you are in the moment.
Thank you to Kendall Kerr for sharing this clip on YouTube.
Dale Earnhardt made his Cup debut in 1975. Everybody remembers where they were in 2001.
Fast forward to 2024. It’s 49 years since his debut and 23 since that day in 2001.
His impact and legacy is stronger than ever and will forever defy time.
Everybody is talking about Sterling Marlin. Dale Jr is racing the Mom N Pops No. 3 at a short track. The Cup race at North Wilkesboro is in a few months. The Craftsman Truck Series starts next week.
I’m not sure what year it is anymore but I love every bit of it.
Ever since the Busch Clash came back,
@TheRealSutton
and I have been talking about other traditions we’d love to see return.
These pictures were the pinnacle of our conversation.
The history behind them is unparalleled. Every picture tells such a story.
We need these back.
This right here is the epitome of what introducing the starting lineup should look like every single week. It’s informative, serious and every driver gets a moment in the spotlight.
Another absolute Ken Squier masterclass.
This is just my personal opinion but if I’m Chip Ganassi, I’m starting my search for filling the No. 42 seat by calling Daniel Suarez.
I feel like that would be a win-win for both parties & allow Daniel to showcase his talent.
He has been incredibly solid in the No. 96 car.
This is meant with absolutely no disrespect towards anyone else but Dale Jr, Dale Jarrett and Kyle Petty is the perfect TV booth.
It gives me that relaxed, “hanging out w/ my friends” vibe that Bob, Benny and Ned always gave off.
It just feels right.
It’s kind of cool that Randy Lajoie drove for Hendrick Motorsports during NASCAR’s 50th Anniversary season and Corey gets to do it during NASCAR’s 75th.
It makes me sad when networks breeze through the starting lineup, without mentioning every driver. It could be one of these guys only NASCAR start, a dream turned reality. They deserve a moment. Always.
Dale Earnhardt gave all the credit for winning the 1994 Pepsi 400 pole to his new multimillion dollar jet.
“I race better in debt. A man races better when he owes money.”
By my count:
Last Sunday at Pocono marked the first time the entire Cup field never raced against Dale Earnhardt since the 1961 Yankee 500 at Norwood Arena. It was won by Emanuel Zervakis.
(99% sure this is correct..but I searched almost each race 1 by 1 & my eyes are now 😵💫)
