“We have the receipts. We have overwhelming evidence that [the fossil fuel] industry has known since twice my lifetime about the dangers of their products.”

Every kid deserves safe, lead-free water.
Thanks to this investment from our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Rhode Island's water infrastructure will significantly improve, and we'll be better equipped to root out lead poisoning once and for all.
There are more than 9 million lead service lines across the nation. Today’s $3 billion investment to identify and replace these lines brings the U.S. closer to replacing 100% of lead service lines.
Today marks 2 years since the Dobbs leak.
Each day we see more of the chaos & cruelty Republican abortion bans are inflicting on women—and everyone should understand that Donald Trump is responsible for this.
Democrats will keep fighting to restore abortion rights nationwide.
Big Oil spent decades hiding their pollution while pocketing obscene profits. We’re paying twice—at the pump and in climate chaos. These documents deliver a message loud and clear: polluters should pay us, not delay us.
We want to extend a huge thank you to
@SenWhitehouse
for coming out to
#PanCANPurpleStride
Rhode Island and showing your support for all those touched by
#pancreaticcancer
. 💜 We are so grateful for your continued partnership in the halls of Congress as we fight this disease.
We can never bring back lost lives, but through my REPO law and G-7 coordination a LOT of Russian money can go to rebuild Putin’s savage destruction in Ukraine.
"The ostensible purpose of
@SenWhitehouse
’s hearing, and one it effectively accomplished, was to get on the record a boatload of documents showing that the oil companies and their trade groups continue to lie about climate change."
The fossil fuel industry knew about the economic & climate harms of its products, but continued to deceive the American public to collect $600+ billion in yearly subsidies & rake in record profits.
Tune in as
@SenateBudget
exposes this decades-long climate deception campaign. 👇
"Big Oil had to evolve from denial to duplicity."
@SenWhitehouse
describes the evolving phases of the fossil fuel industry's climate deception:
First they knew. Then they lied. And when they couldn't deny climate change any more, they lied about solutions.
Over two years ago,
@OversightDems
subpoenaed documents from four oil companies and two fossil fuel trade associations about their response to climate change. More than a million pages of those documents were not reviewed. Today's hearing w/
@RepRaskin
continues that work.
The fossil fuel industry has lied about their role in climate change for far too long.
LIVE:
@SenateBudget
holds a hearing to hold Big Oil companies and their enablers accountable for their deception.

Over and over, in the real world of proper government disclosure and accountability, government officials are prosecuted for failing to disclose gifts far lower in value than what Supreme Court justices received.
An old adage says the best way to prove a stick is crooked is by laying a straight stick down beside it. In my 31st Scheme speech, we'll look at how ethics violations by most federal officials are handled and compare it to SCOTUS. You’ll find the SCOTUS stick isn’t very straight.
Luckily, Republicans are stepping right up to address climate change as it imperils their coasts. And if you believe that, I’ve got some coastal property to sell you.

@SenateBudget
@OversightDems
joint staff report reveals new evidence of the fossil fuel industry’s deceptive commitments to reduce emissions, false promises on new technologies, and obstruction of the investigation
Big Oil’s 4 phases on climate change:
1.Learn of the danger posed by climate change from their own scientists
2.Form an armada of front groups to cover it up
3.Deny a problem exists
4.Engage in doublespeak by pretending to care for a solution
Now we're holding them accountable.
