This is obscene. The City could‘ve used funds to buy and retrofit this building, empty for a year, into housing for St. Paul’s unhoused population. they’re instead leasing it to train cops to mass arrest protesters - the furthest thing from "mutual aid"

every time I take the light-rail past this empty Sears, which closed TWO years ago January 2019, I think about how the City could buy / put in walls / retrofit it or other vacant buildings up & down University Ave. sufficient funds solve the housing crisis, but they never cared.

and yet... each and every single year the the mayors / city councils of every city in the metro area find more money to throw at police depts. they vote for more funds to buy riot gear, resources to hire more officers to harass & terrorize poor, unhoused, Black, brown residents.

@SeanLimMN @sigridellis Honestly if the money was actually directed towards training cops properly in the first place a lot of things would probably be pretty different.

@SeanLimMN @sigridellis And I’m not saying that this plan isn’t essentially full of shit, but turn the whole profession into something like we do in finland where it’s a three year bachelors programme to get a gun and a badge I think you’d get people there who would actually do the job right.
