The show I’ve spent the last few years working on as a writer and co-executive producer now has a trailer! Check out SCAVENGERS REIGN October 19th on Max.
After their deep-space freighter is damaged, the stranded crew of the Demeter must fight to survive on a beautiful yet dangerous planet.

premieres October 19 on Max.
When we were working on the pilot episode of Scavengers Reign, I had a bit of extra time at the end and animated a few random shots - here's a little thread:
The final three episodes of the first season of SCAVENGERS REIGN drop at midnight (10/9) - huge thank you to everyone who has been watching it so far, we really hope you love how the season ends.

A few more little random shots from episodes two and three of Scavengers Reign. The actual animation talent working on the show was so unbelievable, I was lucky just to get to see their work every day during the process. New episodes out tomorrow on Max!
I had a blast animating some sleepy, dreamy trains and landscapes on the new

If you're like me, you probably have a million tabs open with things you haven't gotten around to, but since people may have an overabundance of computer time right now, I thought I'd share a thread of some independent animated shorts that are longish. Thread below👇
I'm teaching an animation class and was wondering if anyone had a link to a resource on those big warped 2D perspective pan BGs. Can be from a Disney movie, anime, independent, whatever! The more distorted, the better!
As promised, here's a little list of gems from animated short film history. Tried to stay off the beaten path as often as I could, but couldn't help slipping in some classics that are personal favorites. Thread below👇

@StreamOnMax
is the coolest fucking animated show in a long time. Go watch it NOW! (after watching South Park: Joining the Panderverse, of course)
I wrote an in-depth article about the process of making DRONE, hoping it might be inspiring to anyone trying to make an independent animated short. Read it here:
One of the first shots that got animated on DRONE was also one of the most complicated. It was a test to see how complicated the lighting had to be for the characters to feel blended with the background. Full film ➡️
I like working in Flash because the output is so basic and then doing a lot of dressing up in After Effects. Here's a before and after from a style test for my new film.
We've been hard at work putting together this theatrical program of animated shorts. It's basically impossible to see a lot of these shorts outside of festivals, and I think they're really really good, and we're excited to be able to share them with a lot more people.
Sharing some of the small animation retakes I did on Kill Team Kill in the 3rd season of Love, Death and Robots. Under the brilliant animation direction of
@benjybrooke
, who assembled the most insane team of talent to bring this thing together. [1/4]
So excited to finally be able to talk about this amazing project I’ve been working on with the most fantastic team ever. And the best part of all is working with my besties

I wrote a little article about artists making independent animated films on their own in Los Angeles. It's mainly a survey/behind-the-scenes look at a bunch of films that I really love, and how they came to be. Hope you enjoy!
DRONE will be released this Sunday (2/5) at 7pm PST on YouTube . Here’s a clip where Newton the drone malfunctions during the press rollout - w/

Alright, let's take a closer look at some of these pencil tests from Akira! Look at this amazing tracking shot! That tunnel! I bet a lot of folks assume this was 3D CGI but NOPE. It was hand drawn!

I just published my essay "Animated Shorts and the Quest for the Ultimate Platform" on my Medium account. It was originally published in
@MostlyMoving
, a quarterly magazine all about animation. Check it out and give it a 👏CLAP👏!
Line animation before color and comping for my new film - finally locked down this whole pipeline so the layering and everything else plugs smoothly into After Effects.
The GLAS Animation Grant Program is now open for applications. Are you a US-based animator trying to make an independent short - we want to help you! Apply today!
We are excited to announce the GLAS Animation Grant Program is now accepting applications. This program was made possible by the generous support of an anonymous donor with additional support from our friends over at

A bit of animation that will be tucked into the corner of a shot, barely visible. But just cause you can't see it doesn't mean it didn't take way too long to animate.
Kind of a bummer that even Indiewire, a site specifically dedicated to covering independent film, headlines an article about the animated shorts Oscar as a race between two gigantic companies even before the shortlist is released, let alone the nominations
One of my favorite shorts of all time, "Yùl et le Serpent" by Gabriel Harel is now online for a limited time - This is one of my go to shorts to convince people that the animated short is a great medium for making serious work. Check it here ➡️
My buddy Calvin Frederick is making some seriously cool stuff. All in camera, all practical effects and lighting. Can't wait to see this film get fully realized.

I'll have a thought like 'I just need to add a quick scene where a character explains something expository', and then it becomes one of the hardest shots to animate in the whole movie.
I'm currently in the stage of the filmmaking process where you're convinced your movie is a terrible mess, but I just comped a shot with a background by
@wesley_mcclain
that is amazing (and will only be visible for a few seconds) and I just wanted to show it off.
Preproduction officially begins today on a big new short I’ve been writing currently titled "DR🙂NE". Here is the first concept painting by my friend Alex Murray-Clark.
The animation production on "I Lost My Body" is really interesting and unique, an exceptional example of scaling a process from shorts to feature and plussing the look instead of making economical compromises.
Excited on some level to see Netflix developing any kind of animated anthology, but based on the trailer () I have to agree with this Sally Cruikshank comment on a

Going to do some more life drawing tonight - wanted to post a throwback to when I used to do it a lot more, before all this animation bullshit started wasting all my time.
my film LOVESTREAMS is having a little resurgence in views over on Youtube for some unknown reason. I really love reading the comments of people who have had brushes with online love. Here's a little BTS gif to celebrate😀
Animation is not a great medium for making any kind of timely political work, but I think it's safe to say that this film will be very relevant for the next four years.
my film I'M NOT A ROBOT will screen online this Wednesday, March 25th in the Competition 3 at the Ann Arbor Film Festival. This film will probably never go permanently online, so this stream might be the only chance to see it for a while.
My new short has a couple of shots that didn't make sense for CG but needed some extra dimensionality. Used a lot of very economical trickery in Animate to give it a 3D look.
Another rough still from the film I'm working on. The animation process on this project takes a long time, but it feels like a big step up for me in terms of the final image.
I made a new series of shorts called I AM A ROBOT for
@FXXNetwork
and they're premiering this September at
@OIAF_Animation
. Can't wait for everyone to see them🤖
I wrote a new essay for the inaugural issue of

called "Animation and the Quest for the Ultimate Platform" that examines where animated shorts fit into the current media ecosystem. Also includes interview, and an essay/intvw from
