With exception of Scottish, everyone has won 2 matches, and the bottom of those (Pirates) beat the top (Ealing). There’s a huge void of English league rugby on terrestrial TV atm. This league should be put on BBC for next to nothing. The gain would be vast.
Man tells Danny Cipriani to stop moaning about the press’s treatment of him by calling him names and denigrating his achievements. Man works in the press.
What’s the most enjoyable rugby ‘fact’ that you know?
I’ll start.
The only two times a player has scored 6 tries in one game in the English Premiership happened on the same date (16th April) sixteen years apart. (2000 and 2016).
My boy not getting invited to a party tonight and then getting texts from others at the party laughing about him not being there. He’s in tears. And he really doesn’t deserve to be. I didn’t think being a parent was this tough.
Commentated on this game tonight and heard the line at the time. Absolute quality, and look at the responses from the players…
I felt she had a brilliant game
Even if you’re not a Quins fan, it’s difficult not to be a Quins fan. They are the Premiership’s best product. Their games should be shown for free to every country.
🇿🇦 Siya Kolisi has spoken to Tom Curry after the England flanker and his family were subject to online abuse.
"I have spoken to him, I sent him a message. He is someone I respect," Kolisi said.
"We can take it as players, when it comes to us directly it's fine, but when it…
There have been few better lines in Rugby Football history. The final sidestep is part victory jig. The kick to convert as ice cold as they come. Extraordinary rugby moment. Perhaps the most formative in my rugby development.
So, I was never brave/daft enough to be admitted to hospital as a rugby player. But I’ve managed it as a rugby commentator. Huge thanks to Saracens’ and Bath’ doctors, the stadium team at StoneX and Flats for stepping in. I’ll be back.
The RFU: the problem with the Champ is that their finances are in terrible shape
Also the RFU: we’d like the Championship clubs to risk a large amount of money on getting a 10k+ stadium so that they can have the potential (not the guarantee) of being promoted
Three times today, I’ve had to explain the Championship promotion situation to interested parties. They stand there, confused. “If a team is good enough, it goes up?” They have all said.
This is another example of how our sport is pushing people away.
Reading through all this Rassie stuff, I can’t help but feel for Nic Berry. A young professional in the biggest game of his career. Isolated and targeted. Even if he was wrong, he wasn’t trying to be. It’s pretty sad.
It’s been over 24hrs now but still nothing from the RFU on their official Twitter channel about Ealing’s league victory in the
@Champrugby
. I haven’t been on Facebook but I’d guess it would be the same. I appreciate it’s been a busy weekend but throw us a bone here. 1/2
I bet Nigel Farage spends a lot of time around quiz machines in pubs, never putting any money in, just shouting the answers of the buttons you didn’t press.
May and Daly picked on the wing for England. If any selection highlights where England are, it’s these. May and Daly are very good players. Or if you’re being tough; were. For me, at their peak back in 2019. They won’t play in 2027. Daly would be 34, May 37.
Since 2019 it…
Dallaglio: "Ben O'Keefe is going to be the talking point as he's won them the game not South Africa"
Christ! Well if he wasn't before he will be now, eh?
Both sober and drunk people crash cars. In fact, statistically, more sober people than drunk. Should we legalise drink driving? No, of course we shouldn’t.
Sir, please sit down.
Yesterday, for the first time in my teaching career, I was called something that really made me laugh.
It was a sign of the times. I’ve been called ‘Mum’, ‘Dad’, ‘Miss’, even names I’d rather not mention.
But yesterday it was special.
‘Alexa?’ said the boy.
Oh yes.
George Ford’s technical brilliance with those two opening drop goals cannot be underestimated. It drove new blood into the veins of Lawes and Cole, Earl and Itoje. His boot was the catalyst. I wonder how far they can go with it?
The claw released.
The Eeyore bounced off two walls of the chute.
And down behind the dispensing door. We’d bloody won!!
So, there you go. 2023 hasn’t been a great year but maybe strange things can happen. Keep going.
Happy New Year to you all. All the best for 2024.
Lovely to be at the Stoop today. The noise from the fans was unreal. And Quins were up to their old tricks again. It’s going to be a fun
@premrugby
season.
Paul Tupai walks out for the last time on to a professional rugby pitch, flanked by his mother.
Toops has made a 25 year career out of looking after people. Here’s who looked after him. Magical.
Just a thought on today; especially if you’re not a regular
@Champrugby
fan:
I can’t begin to tell you how tough it is right now for these clubs. If u can get to a ground when they reopen or buy a streaming ticket, please do. Great stories, great characters & great rugby on show.
I asked
@jfordrob
if he’d go and get us some water. He returned with a bowl of curry, two cans of red bull and bottles of both still and sparkling. I’d suggest he’s the greatest co-comms I’ve worked with.
God, this looks good. The work
@Harlequins
are doing off the field is possibly the most exciting and important for the game in England. Sounds a big statement. It is. And I mean it.
Getting very excited about the
#RugbyWorldCup
starting this weekend.
Of the 8 games in this first three days, 5 of them are pretty huge.
The biggest for me is South Africa v Scotland on Sunday afternoon. It’s a clash of styles and I just wonder if the Boks will struggle more…
"I was never supposed to be here, ever! So for me to come to a club with so much prestige, to be a small part of that is brilliant!"
@LeicesterTigers
' Captain Ellis Genge takes it all in as his journey with the club comes to a close ♥️

A story for you on NYE. Maybe one of significance.
We went to Milton Keynes tonight to do an Escape Room. Great fun and worth going if you get the chance. Not the point of this story, mind you.
We got there early (naturally, if you know me) and we had 20 minutes to spend… 🧵
There just aren’t ever games of rugby like that.
FT Bedford 53 Coventry 52
There were errors, but both sides played such adventurous, attack minded rugby. Full credit to Coventry. What a pair of clubs. What a game.
Tried to make statistical sense of England’s games under Borthwick.
Some pretty dire reading when ranked against the 10 tier one nations.
Points per 22 entry: 10th
Ruck speed: 8th
Kick metres: 1st
Line breaks: 10th
Handling errors: 10th
Turnovers lost: 10th
Metres made: 8th
Exclusive: Champions Cup to consist of 24 groups of 1 team, where each team will play against themselves home and away in their away strip but each player will choose the club socks of other teams and whichever team has the most socks will play Leinster in the final in Dublin.
Disappointed to see players (both current and former) tweeting their disappointment at red cards being dealt correctly.
We either do this, or we don’t.
I don’t like to ref bash, but have the laws changed? No clear release from Barrett, closes off the clear out by clearly not supporting his weight over the ball. Penalty against Argentina.
Being No. 1 on the World Rugby Rankings is a bit like owning a really fast car.
If it’s yours, you are very happy and enjoy it when people notice.
If it’s not, you get a bit sniffy about not having it and tell yourself (and others) that it doesn’t really matter...
I have been made aware of a comment that I made during commentary that was well meaning but may have caused offence. I have made a direct approach to the player concerned and the club to apologise, and made a donation to a charity.
Tricky this… but this is close to the perfect XV.

Considering this was never really about this 6N, if I were an England fan I’d be relatively positive about this afternoon. By the time the RWC rolls around, England could be in a decent spot. No?
Jamie Elliott was a favourite son of

- he’s now playing for his home town club and loving life. His performances of late have been incredibly eye catching.
You won’t see a better tackle than this. Brimful of courage and technically awesome.
Just been reading a thread on quiz question failures.
My wife’s (from many years ago) will still take some beating:
Trivial pursuit Q: What’s the largest race of people in South Africa?
Her: Johannesburg Marathon.
Re Karl Dickson. I agree with posts suggesting that this was avoidable and we didn’t need to put him in such a position but we as a watching public can do better: no professional referee goes into a game with a bias or favour. Not one. Doesn’t matter who they were or what they…
