Today is my 30th birthday and I'm hoping that you'll take a minute to read through this and perhaps donate to ON COVID-19 Project, which is a nonprofit I founded during this pandemic. 🧵🪡
I was completing my Masters at
@WesternU
when I felt a call to action spurred on by gov officials saying
#InThisTogether
. I felt that we all had to do as much as we could to help each other out through this time.
I knew that bc of my education and interests, I understood this pandemic better than most. It isn't because I'm intelligent - but rather, I'm just 'lucky' that this crisis is something I studied.
The fact that I could make more informed decisions based on the fact that I had studied health/health sector for years seemed unfair. That couldn't be the prerequisite for navigating the pandemic - could it?
I thought for sure gov officials would invest in messaging that resonates and is tailored to different demographics because setting people up to navigate this pandemic easily is in ALL of our best interest. However, by June, it became apparent that was not going to happen.
So I started this project, which I do full time, unpaid (You can imagine how my immigrant parents feel about this ha)
I've been using my savings, which were not much to start with, to self-fund the project and pay for stuff like Zoom, CANVA, etc.
We operate under the belief that most people want to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19 but don't have the privilege to do so. This is because most of the messaging and policies have been targeted at people with privilege.
The project, which can be viewed here , has a reach of over 40K unique viewers every week, over 100K impressions weekly and has over 10K followers on Instagram. -- in short, our methods are working.
We have mobilized over 130 volunteers (Millennials and Gen Z) who volunteer 4-10hrs/wk to make our mission possible. We also have an ambassador program of over 300 people who help spread our work by volunteering 1/hr a week!
Most importantly, the project has a two-way communication stream between us and our audience, who we call our community. We research and create content that answers Canadians' questions because we don't assume to know what they need.
Please consider donating () to help us continue to support Millennials/Gen Z navigate the pandemic. If you can't financially contribute, there are other ways to get involved on the website! Please retweet this too!

Also, we do have really exciting long term plans for this project that will continue to empower and engage Millennials and Gen Z to stay informed, take up action and champion change!
