Hesitancy, uncertainty or confusion means ‘no’. Any version of no is ‘no’. Consent must be a clear, voluntary, enthusiastic ‘yes!’. If consent is unclear, or a partner is communicating that they just aren’t that into it, the answer is ‘no’! #SAAM2022 #SAAM #30DaysofSAAM

Victim blaming is the most common reason why people don’t report sexual assault. We see victim blaming in the media, in politics, in work and education settings and peer groups. Nothing the victim did caused sexual assault. The perpetrator chose to assault them. #SAAM2022

2 in 5 Australians believe that women make up false reports of sexual assault in order to punish men. Yet it is important to acknowledge that 9 out 10 women who have been sexually assaulted do not report to the police and false allegations are rare #SAAM

The majority of victims who have been impacted by sexual violence delay disclosing and/or reporting or never disclose/report their experiences. Common reasons include shame, confusion, guilt, shock, fear of not being believed, fear of or protecting the offender. #SAAM

It takes courage for someone to disclose sexual assault or family violence. How you respond can make a big difference. You can support them by saying “I’m so sorry this happened to you.” “This is not your fault.” “You’re not alone. I’m here for you.” #16DaysofActivism

Today is #RUOKDay , a day to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation. Today has always been an important day, but after 2.5 years of COVID, lockdowns and restricted connection, it feels more important than ever.

Women are more likely to experience sexual assault by someone they know, rather than a stranger. But 1 in 3 Australians are unaware of this fact. Sexual assault can occur in all kinds of relationships inclusive of all of genders and sexualities. We are here to support you. #SAAM

It takes courage for someone to share their story of sexual assault. It’s important to show that you are committed to supporting them. You can support them by saying “I’m so sorry this happened to you.” “This is not your fault.” “You’re not alone. I’m here for you.”

It can be helpful to understand how family violence might have affected your child’s brain, body, emotions and behaviour. Each child's experience of family violence is different, so following their needs and cues will help you to understand how they are managing.
