Honoring #Afghanistan Fallen Heroes: Jamshid Zafar was the most intellectually gifted student at the American University of Afghanistan. While I survived the Taliban attack at AUAF on 8/24/2016, Jamshid was brutally murdered. His death broke me. May his memory be a blessing.

One difference between Taliban rule in the 1990s & 2021 is that this time the international community (mainly Western countries) facilitated the rise to power of Taliban, and hence, handed #Afghanistan on a silver platter to a state whose trademark is sponsoring terrorism.

In 2016, I narrowly survived a Taliban terror attack. When I called one of my colleagues the next day, he was shocked and thought I had surely been killed. I urge all Afghans who have faced their brutality to share their story. Our story must be told by us first and foremost.
