Parents, please make sure you’re checking your kid’s Halloween candy. Our officer just opened up this Snickers bar and found an application to be a firefighter stuffed inside.
Stay vigilant.
🚨 Missing Person 🚨
Mr. Gary Butler is diagnosed with dementia and walked away from his home in the 12000 block of Wildwood Springs Dr. (between Trailside Ct. and Flowing Spring Trail) around 1:30pm.
We are heartbroken to share that a member of our Roswell Police family, Lieutenant Joel Ruff, unexpectedly passed away from a medical emergency while on duty early this morning.
In response to record-high fuel prices, the Roswell Police Department is testing out alternative patrol options that are more fuel-efficient. Starting this week, our new Ostrich Mounted Group (O.M.G.) will take to the streets of Roswell.

No, your itchy, watery eyes do not deceive you. After much consideration and vigorous car washing, we’ve come to the conclusion that our traditional black patrol cars are incompatible with The Pollening™️ (1/3)
Got out with a panhandler who was walking in the middle of the GA 400 exit ramp, a very unsafe place to be. Officer Dusenberry gave her a warning and walked across the street to a convenience store to buy her some food. Public safety is about people above all else.

THIS is why we love our community so much.
Our officers were out directing traffic at an intersection that lost power for a good bit this morning. A very kind woman saw them in this frigid, windy weather, and stopped to bring them hot chocolate.
The Roswell Police Department is proud to announce that it has zero (0) vacancies for sworn police officers, and is operating at full authorized strength of 160 officers for the first time in 20 years.

🚨 Traffic Alert 🚨
Azalea Rd. is closed and impassable due to flooding between Willeo Rd. and Atlanta St. (HWY 9). One vehicle has already become stuck, so please do not attempt to cross any flooded roads. Barricades are in place marking this closure.

Newer technology in emergency equipment! It allows our vehicles to communicate on scene and sync up the light patterns to each other to be less overwhelming. Roswell PD’s newer vehicles do the same!
We’re out working traffic enforcement on GA 400 this morning. Didn’t take long to hit triple digits. 125 is well beyond super speeder. That’s super-duper speeder (new legal term, tell your friends).
Slow down folks. Let’s make sure everyone gets where they’re going safely.
There was nothing he would not do or give of himself to see them succeed.
His presence is irreplaceable, and his memory unforgettable.
Lieutenant, rest easy. We have the watch from here.
A storm system coming through later this evening may bring 2-4 inches of rain to the area, and potential flooding as a result. We’ve created this simple flowchart to help you decide when it’s safe to try to cross a flooded roadway.
Hint: it’s almost never.
⚠️ Traffic Alert ⚠️
Road closure on Atlanta St. (Hwy 9) between Riverside and Chattahoochee Cir. for a downed power line. Power is out in the area as a result, and this will be an extensive repair, so please avoid the area.
Don’t mind our appearance this morning, just testing out some new uniform options for this cold weather. We could totally put our arms down if we wanted to. We just don’t want to.
🚨MISSING ELDERLY COUPLE🚨
Vivian Bryson, 77, and Winford Bryson, 81, left their home in NC on 11/24/2021, en route to Roswell. They did not arrive. They are known to be driving a 2012 Silver Toyota Camry bearing North Carolina Tag PCY9068.

We are happy to report that Roger Malm has been located! He is healthy and well. His family is on their way to reunite with him. Thank you for all your help and retweets!
🎵 Guess who’s back, back again?
🎶 Black bear’s back, tell a friend.
Our furry visitor has been spotted again over the last few days in the neighborhoods off Woodstock Rd. There is no need to call 911 unless the bear becomes aggressive or starts rapping “Lose Yourself”.
Looking for a safe meeting place to buy or sell online? Where better than your local police department? Our public parking lot has several cameras recording 24/7, and we recently added signage to remind our community to use this space to conduct safe transactions.
⚠️ Traffic Alert ⚠️
We’re working to clear an overturned car hauler on Hembree Rd. at Wills. There are no injuries but cleanup will take some time. Please avoid this area if at all possible.
Before he ever pinned on his first badge, Lt. Ruff knew in his heart that service to our Roswell community was his calling. He began his career as one of our youth Police Explorers in 1995, and confirmed his passion for police work when he took his oath of office in 1998.
He served our community in various roles with utmost dedication for 23 years. Lt. Ruff’s most recent assignment was serving as watch commander for one of our nightshift patrol squads. The joy and pride he found in leading his men and women was infectious.
Welcome to our first virtual ride along, Twitter! We’ll be riding with Officer Dusenberry (right) for the first part of the day. Let’s see what the day brings us!

Two lanes of southbound GA 400 are shut down south of Mansell for an overturned horse trailer. No injuries to people or animals, but expect traffic delays while we get things cleaned up.
Yesterday we arrested a juvenile male for the armed robbery of a cell phone during a Facebook Marketplace sale. We want to remind our community about using our front parking lot as a safe zone for conducting these types of online sale transactions.

Right now, in-person ride-alongs are still on hold as we make our way through this pandemic together. So we’re trying something new: a virtual ride-along! Come meet some of our crew and see what a day in the life of a police officer looks like as we live-tweet right from the car!
At long last, it’s time to spring forward tonight! Despite our modern digital age, remember there’s a few things that will not change automatically:
-microwaves
-coffee makers
-your ex (they’ll never change)
🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT 🚨
The intersection of Harscrabble Rd. and Woodstock Rd. is closed in all directions, as a result of electrical wires and traffic signals down in the roadway.
Please avoid this area while we work to get things cleaned up.
🚦 Traffic(king) Alert! 🚦
We had a different kind of ice on our roads last night. No need to worry though, our nightshift patrol officers made sure to get rid of all 6.71 pounds of it.
Roswell PD: turning frowns upside down.
We were recently informed that young Thomas’ “We Support Roswell Police” sign was maliciously destroyed by the wind. Now it just says “lice.”
No one wants lice. So we made sure to hand-deliver Thomas a new sign to proudly display.
Be grateful for where you are...but never forget where you've been.
This week we officially retired the last Crown Vic in our fleet. For decades it was a staple not just for Roswell, but American policing in general.
You may have noticed a small but significant change in our officer’s uniforms recently, as we’ve been rolling out new load-bearing ballistic vests. These new vests can make a dramatic impact on not only the officer’s day-to-day comfort…
Our hearts remain with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Henry County Police Department, as we together mourn the loss of Deputy Marshall and Officer Desai. Both were killed in the line of duty while selflessly serving the communities they were committed to and loved.
Today our 8 newest police officers, with the help of some loved ones, added the weight of a badge to their uniforms. More than just a few ounces of brass, that weight reflects their commitment and responsibility to serve Roswell with honor, and protect with courage.
🚨🚨🚨UPDATE: FOUND!
This Thanksgiving afternoon, we are very thankful to be able to report that the Brysons have been located by our law enforcement partners in Fayette County, Alabama, and are in the process of being reunited with family. Thank you to all who shared!

Can you help us find this child’s parents/guardians?
He was found around 1:30am walking unsupervised in the area of the leasing office for Park 83 apartments at 100 Calibre Creek Pkwy. If you can identify child/caregivers, call the Roswell Police Department ASAP at 770-640-4100
To the Mitchells, who left this sweet note on one of our cars while at dinner yesterday: thanks for the reminder of why Roswell is the best community to be a policeman.
🧊🧊🧊 ICE ALERT
There is a large patch of ice in the road on the southbound curve of Mansell Rd. between Houze Rd. and Highway 92. RDOT is responding to treat the roadway, but please avoid this section of road this morning if possible, and proceed slowly and carefully.
⚠️ ⚠️⚠️ Do not attempt to drive through standing water on the roadway. We have already had one vehicle get stuck, and we do not want you to put yourself or anyone else at risk for an avoidable rescue.
Moving forward, our newest vehicles will be painted in a glossy shade of mustard yellow. We know change can be divisive, but this will help us maintain the professional appearance of our vehicles despite a half-inch thick layer of the devil’s powder coating each one. (2/3)
…but their long-term health as well, by redistributing the significant weight of their duty gear off the hips/lower back and onto the core. It’s just one of the many ways we’re prioritizing the health and wellness of our officers at RPD.
We’ll be riding with Officer Siberski for our night shift leg! We’ll be closing things down here on Twitter at midnight, but she’ll be powering through all the way to 6am!

Have you seen Theodore? He was last seen around 12:00pm this afternoon in the area of Old Alabama and Holcomb Bridge Rd. after leaving school, and we are working to find him and check his welfare.
Today in particular, we honor those who have taken up the mantle of service to our country. RPD is proud to employ so many men and women who have chosen to continue that life of service to the Roswell community. Join us in thanking and honoring our Veterans!

While the bridge to the Cultural Arts Center is a little worse for the wear, we held up pretty well together Roswell. The snow is on its way out, but the cold and wind will be with us through the morning. Leave yourself some extra time and space to get where you’re going tomorrow
The Roswell Division of Emergency Communications is only the 17th emergency dispatcher center in the world and the second in Georgia to be recognized as an Accredited Center of Excellence by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch. Proud!
