Today would have been Konrad’s 35th birthday. I met him once when he was a kid. He told me he wanted to be an pro athlete just like me. He realized that dream, but it was cut short by an aneurism. He donated his heart and saved my life. Happy birthday Konrad, together forever.

When I was 20, I faced Gibby at an exhibition match in Florida. I tried to fill in a hole in the batter’s box and he told me, “Get in the box, I’m double parked!” He knocked me down 4 times and walked me. As I walked to first he said, “Don’t even try to steal”. I didn’t 😂

I crouched my stance because of Nolan Ryan. He threw a high fastball that was hard to resist. I crouched down because his lower fastball flew straighter at that height. He eventually yelled at me to “Stand up!” I didn’t 😄

I do think there should be limits to how far players can shift. BUT, guys need to take advantage of the openings the shift gives them. Bunt into the open field. Make the defense adjust. “Pitches are too fast now” is a BS excuse
