50% of your time meeting with clients
50% of your time meeting with prospects
50% of your time on research and education
50% of your time on operational development
50% of your time on marketing
Oh, and take Fridays off.

Why do advisors bicker over the “right way” to charge clients for their services?
If you clients are happy, you’re happy, and your business is growing, it’s “right”.
Why are you wasting energy trying to convince other advisors to charge the way you do?
Meet Hundley. We rescued him this weekend.
Showed up in our yard. No microchip or collar. Covered in ticks. Hungry. Skittish. Underweight.
2 days of love, a little vet time, and he's already acting like a member of the pack.
He chose us.
We chose him too.
Dogs are ❤️
Financial advisors:
Stop sending this kind of impersonal, technical junk to your clients and prospects.
It doesn't make you look smart.
It makes you look out of touch.
And they can Google this if they really want it, btw, so you're not delivering value.
Rant over.
I just interviewed a group of financial advisors.
Not one of them is in it for the money.
Every one of them genuinely wants to help people.
And their businesses are thriving as a result.
Purpose > Profit
My grandma died yesterday morning.
So did another dear friend — just two hours later.
But I spoke at a conference yesterday afternoon.
And I chaired our quarterly Board meeting today.
I did what I had to do to.
But it’s hitting me hard now.
I wish to express my overflowing gratitude to the attendees, speakers, and
@SnappyKraken
teammates who made
#JoltConference
such an inspiring event.
Keep forging those meaningful connections.
I appreciate you.
Oh, and thanks to the Storm Troopers too.
Until next year...
Many people aren’t the best version of themselves right now.
2020 has been hard (understated).
Let’s cut one another some slack.
It’s a good thing to do.
#JoltConference
was incredible for a million reasons, but the
#1
and most important is evident:
The people ❤️
Thank you all SO much for making this innaguaral event such a special occasion.
2023 here we come!
Financial advisor:
“I help you simplify.”
Also financial advisor:
“Track down 40 documents, fill out 6-page questionnaire, read 100 page plan + eight prospectuses, sign 30 forms, wait six days for ACATS, bookmark five logins, meet me quarterly, and read my weekly commentary.”
It’s official: I can finally talk about it!
I couldn’t be more excited and grateful to have acquired such an incredible company (team, and product) we now have the fun of integrating!
It’s time to help advisors level up their website game!
Let’s go! 🚀
My wife fell and broke three vertebrae Thursday.
She’s coming home from the hospital tonight, but has a long recovery.
I’m beyond relieved she’ll recover, but I have no idea how to care for her, our son, and still handle work.
Anyone been through this and have advice for me?
We moved the Jolt! marketing conference to May 4-6, 2022.
It’s still gonna be⚡️It’s just going to be at a better time.
Here are the three reasons for our choice:
Bought a truck to restore that’s just like the one my grandpa drove me around in when I was a kid.
Whatcha think
@copaflyer
?
Can I park next to you after I get her cleaned up?
Wanted a live-edge, black walnut bar for my garage/man-cave, but didn't want to spend $3k. Alternative:
1) Bought slab from local sawmill for $300
2) Bought legs on Amazon for $100, and polyurethane from hardware store for $15
3) Applied elbow grease
4) Up $2,500 💥

Don’t get me wrong. I love tweeting with my financial industry colleagues on Twitter.
But does anyone else feel like it’s only about 100 of the same
#fintwit
peeps who really engage?
This is a large community. Twitter is valuable. There should be more action.
Why is this?
I'm taking a hiatus from social media for the rest of 2022.
I plan to shift the time to family, work, and personal development.
It will also be my longest break from social, so I look forward to seeing how it affects me.
No DMs, so call or email if you wanna catch up. 🤙
Were you ever picked last in gym class?
When the team needed one more player and you were their only choice?
Yep. That's me making it onto the
@wealth_mgmt
#wealthies
finalist list for CEO of the Year.
If your leadership team isn't at least half made up of strong, confident women, you're missing out on one of the best opportunities to grow your business.
Hire them. Empower them. Trust them. Watch your business grow.
Your boy's club is bad for business.
Looking through old family photos is the best!
This is my family on vacation, circa early 90s, but looking like hybrid 60s/70s/80s.
That's me on the far left -- the annoyed chubby kid.
I'm less annoyed now. And slightly less chubby.
Having a mental illness does not make someone weak.
Frankly, it means they’re stronger because they must fight harder to function.
If someone trusts you enough to open up about their struggle, admire them.
Just telling you required strength.

#joltconference
is officially sold out! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
We promised it would be bigger and better than last year, and we are delivering!
I can't wait to see everyone there, and to hear from our INCREDIBLE lineup of speakers that includes

Latest DIY project: Garden house with 68’ of raised beds for herbs and vegetables. Almost ready for spring planting!
Doing work like this helps me stay mentally balanced against the demands of running a hyper-growth tech company.
Hate to break it to ya...
That killer content that you worked so hard on...
Now that it went through a committee of 5 people (plus compliance) and got tweaked until everyone was happy...
It’s not awesome anymore.
Every financial advisor deserves a raise.
When I see advisors bickering with each other over how 1% is overcharging, I think:
They must not deliver as much value as my advisor, because I'd gladly pay her more for what she does.
Best moves I've made in 2023:
1️⃣ Capping meetings at 5 per day
2️⃣ Only taking meeting after 11AM to leave mornings open for focus work
Almost a month in and already feeling like this is one of the best changes I've made in my professional life. 🧠💥
Being a financial advisor guarantees you‘ll be:
Misunderstood
Misclassified
Under appreciated
But it’s also guaranteed you’ll be:
Challenged
Appreciated
Enriched
Real financial advisors are in a noble profession.
To come across as more confident and capable, cut the words...
I THINK
HONESTLY
BASICALLY
JUST
from your speech and writing.
I honestly think this is basically just a good idea. 😉
Do advisors really need a technology conference?
More tech doesn’t automatically mean better business.
But GREAT tech can:
Find clients
Keep clients
Save money
Save time
Drive growth
#T32020
is just the place to find this kind of tech! So yes, we do. Thanks

Three days in a room
No slack

No news
Just eight people, candid conversations, deep thinking, and tons of sticky notes.
@SnappyKraken
started this way, and we still do it every quarter.
Strategy is everything.
And it doesn't have to be fancy.
Let's modernize some advisor marketing language.
❌ "Retirement" = Reach the so-called golden years. Play golf. Sit in adirondack chairs by the water. Ride bicycles.
✅ "Work optional" = Financial freedom at any age. Do what you want.
I'm pretty sure the later is better.
I've been off
@Twitter
since Nov. 13th.
- I'm more focused and present
- My pickups are down 80%
The break was good for my mental health.
But social media has value too:
- Connection with my industry
- Learning from people I admire
- Lifting others up
So I'm back.

As a CEO, few things are as rewarding as witnessing your employees achieve their personal goals.
Adoption is a gift; but it's also a tragedy.
That's our son in the middle. We adopted him.
Those are his brothers who still live with his birth mother.
The three of them don't get to be as close as they should be.
Last night, I entered an elevator with 2 strangers.
I asked: "How's your evening going?"
We enjoyed a brief and pleasant exchange, discovering we were from the same hometown.
Today, I present to a group of advisors.
They're in the audience.
Being friendly is a life hack.
I just asked my toddler:
“Do you wanna take a bath?”
“No!”
Then mama asked:
“Do you wanna get in the bathtub and play with your toys?”
“Yes! Yay!”
Now we know who the better salesperson is.
3 questions that must all be "yes" before I accept a new client:
1) Do I feel good after being with them?
2) Can I serve them profitably?
3) Can I deliver value for them?
If
#1
is "no", I stop
Clients who make me feel bad aren't worth any amount of 💰💰💰
The top six ways to get more referrals:
1) Make your clients feel special
2) Make your clients feel special
3) Make your clients feel special
4) Make your clients feel special
5) Make your clients feel special
6) Make your clients feel special
Having the confidence to be yourself on social media doesn’t come from believing everyone will like you.
It comes from being okay with it if they don’t.
I'm finished with news networks.
Most stories are misleading, under-researched, politically biased, and depressing.
Staying focused on what I can control, doing my own research, and contributing to my local community is better for my mental health.
Has anyone else tried this?
I’m not sure who needs to hear this today, but corrections like this one are THE BEST time to ramp up marketing and communications.
Use video.
Use email.
Use text message.
Over-communicate.
Give reminders. Share principles.
And your business will grow, not shrink.
More people should live in the country.
No pollution.
Grow your own food.
Freshwater right out of the ground.
No traffic.
Wildlife everywhere.
Lower prices.
Make as much noise as you want.
Beauty everywhere you look.
Endorsement over.
I’m never going back.
So proud of our Chief Brand Officer at
@SnappyKraken
and how she's opening minds at

"Design is NOT the cherry on top. It's not an afterthought. It's visual strategy." -- Patrice Kelly
If you don’t like them as a prospect, you definitely won’t like them as a client.
It’s much easier to say no to a bad fit early, than it is to fire them later.
Has this happened to you?
1) You have a really great original thought
2) You share your thought leadership freely
3) Someone takes your thought and reshares it as their own without giving you credit
4) People praise them for “their genius” which was actually yours?
I am revisiting this thread to say “Thank you” to everyone for your support! It’s been amazing.
My wife has progressed a ton and is walking on her own without a walker now. The PT is really helping and the neurologists said she won’t need surgery. She will make a full recovery!
Yesterday, I accepted a meeting request from someone I didn't know.
I didn't feel like saying yes, but he was compelling so I trusted my gut -- even though I knew it might be a waste of time.
Turned out, it might one of the biggest opportunities to come across my desk...👇🧵
Your clients don’t care about what makes you “unique”.
They care zero about your “proprietary process.”
They aren’t impressed that you’re a “fiduciary.”
They only care about what you can do for them.
The sooner you embrace this, the greater your success will be.
My email auto responder is on and now i think it’s time for a break from social media as well. Time to read books, take hikes, and nap. See y’all in 2020! 🥳
Before I had my own child, when I would see parents with unruly children in public, I thought their parenting was the problem.
I’d just like to say “I’m sorry” to all the parents I judged.
It was never you.
You’re perfect.
It was definitely your childrens’ fault.

I’m selling my Florida home and moving into my North Georgia vacation home full time.
I’ll be planting my grapevines in the spring.
We might even get some chickens.
I haven't been a good enough CEO.
The talent behind
@SnappyKraken
needs more:
Recognition
Credit
Attention
Respect
Admiration
I don't do enough to push them out front.
I will get better at this.
I'm committing publicly.
They're going to impress you big time!
Just wait.
