I can get very riled up, upset & angry over this issue and have done in the past, simply because? My attempts to be calm, educate & polite always fall on deaf ears. Iβm exhausted, but I need to keep trying. Iβm asking you, not to break the code of conduct of a convention, nicely.
Hi!
Donβt film in the headless lounge,
If you did? Delete the footage or at least donβt post it. It *IS* against the convention rules, regardless if the room is empty or you didnβt film/photograph anyone who wasnβt yourself. It is harmful behaviour and encourages others to copy.
Iβve emailed into conventions about this being a repeated issue and with suggestions on how to improve education and signposting about the issue? Which has gone super well! I highly suggest always feeding feedback to a event. However, I wonβt shut up about it here either.
I understand & respect the argument that sharing: βthis person broke the rules!β Can come across as sending a hate mob after someone. Which is not my intent surprisingly. Itβs more to showcase: donβt do this/be like this person. Because reaching out individually donβt always work
But Iβm trying to remember? Furries are not a monolith and politeness first is always a preferable step.
Iβm doing my best to give that energy again, but itβs difficult, because I shouldnβt have too. Nor do I really want to, these actions hurt me and made me feel unsafe.
The headless lounge is a changing area. As well as a space away from the rest of the convention, to remove fursuit heads in a safe place. The headless lounge is frequented by people using these costumes to express themselves? They need to feel safe to do that.
Many furry convention attendees are queer. LGBTQ+, transgender, gender non confirming and for many? There fursuits, costumes reflect a expression that they can only achieve at these events. To feel comfort in oneβs appearance that they donβt usually have. They need privacy.
Moreover? People, regardless need privacy! Not just the obvious of changing clothes, itβs also just not wanting a photo of yourself without your head on taken, which is exactly why you have moved to a private room to do that. Privacy is expected from these spaces.
Even if thereβs nobody in the room at the time? It still removes a lot of the safety from that space being a completely no cameras zone. Itβs also, a rule. Of the event. You are attending, so you have to follow it. Same with all of the code of conduct. Itβs non optional to follow
I want? Need to feel safe at furry cons. At any con! Everyone deserves that? Everyone needs that. Your video in front of UwU big fan puts that at risk & I wonβt be chill about that. Please, be mindful of your surroundings. Use some critical thinking & donβt take that photo/video
