The reaction towards Pipp Petals, being a girly pop star pony who uses her phone?
Being so negative & vitriolic is deeply rooted in peoples internalised misogyny. Itโs a reflection of intense hatred towards girls media or anything targeted at a young female demographic. โฌ๏ธ
Itโs the: โbetter love story than twilightโ jokes all over again. We havenโt broken that cycle in almost two decades. Bronies immediately when seeing the trailer dog piling Pipp with criticism of her being a role model for little girls?
Was extremely evident to watch unfold โฌ๏ธ
Iโd like to gently remind people that, communication devices have existed in โMy Little Ponyโ since the 90โs. Generation two has pagers.
I reject the, Iโm only interested in high fantasy MLP argument as most refuse to watch Gen 1. Which is exactly that, โฌ๏ธ
You can and should have criticisms of Pipp as a character. I do and sheโs my fave haha, no character is perfect! ๐ and you are allowed to not like her (I controversially donโt like Fluttershy that much!)
But the insane initial reaction was fuelled by misogyny. It was gross. โฌ๏ธ
Yโall need to remember,
My Little Pony is a franchise, in the eyes of the people who make it and finance it. For little girls.
Little girls will always be who they show is for, us who came into the franchise with G4 need to internalise that instead. Thanks ๐
@Reskell492
I've remember as soon as we found out that gfi was going to have phones people were reacting negatively. Some even claimed it was going to instantly date it, like they are just some toy that only today kids use
@PonyMalarkey
Incredibly agreed,
As someone who is on social media and has dealt with both the negative and positive side effects of being a creator? I find Pippโs stories mean so much to me. I also have a young following that I care about deeply.
Sheโs a brilliant role model to kids!
@patukV5
Couldnโt agree more!
To me her flaws are more around being a people pleaser and needing to cultivate time for herself and remember, that things outside of her phone or internet subculture, matter.
Which is incredibly relatable to me as a flaw and is well explored in comics too!
