I’ve been pressured to get drunk and drink at cons since I was a minor and not even old enough to attend. I’m not a T-total person but I rarely drink and do so within legal limits. I rarely do any cons. I struggled with feeling isolated because of it but, you shouldn’t! :D

@Reskell492 Not at a con but some fur I no longer know once told me he'd spike my drink for me, I told him I'd actually become physically violent toward him if he ever even mentioned it again (he never did)

@chadthegryph Yeah have been told I wouldn’t have a choice at my first ConFuzzled and they would force me to get drunk as it’s the only way to be at a fur con. I understood it was in part jest but it also made me frankly petrified haha!

@Reskell492 Personally, I'm glad to see some events that actively encourage socialising without alcohol (SoberFurs) on the schedule. Maybe I'm getting old, but I doubt I'll be drinking cider every night like I used to.

@gamepopper Yeah I saw that! Sadly it clashes with other events! Basically everything @seadragom is organising this year clashes for me and it sucks as I wanted to do so many of them 🤣

@Reskell492 I'm late commenting but just wanted to add my thoughts One of my big fears about going to a con for the first time is the drinking and nightlife culture. I don't take part in either, just for personal reasons and my preference, and I really don't want to feel excluded 😭

@chaoticreation Not at all! Not sure if you’ve seen the schedule but the sober furs event is organised by some really great friends of mine :) I personally love the dances at ConFuzzled but I’ve always done so without a drop of alcohol so 🤣 I just like boogying!

@smelly_dragon Had a few! But it’s mostly just folks worried about there first convention which is understandable. My tweet wasn’t meant to scaremonger at all, generally folks leave you be if you don’t want to drink, it’s for the few who don’t to reconsider there behaviour towards people!

@Reskell492 @chaoticreation Also remember that all con staff and venue staff are there to help! If you feel uncomfortable then speak up!

@Reskell492 I remember Matt saying in 2017 that they had 8 ambulances. plenty of people who see cons as an opportunity to let down your guard, and just chug. Not my thing at all, but CFz, is a very safe place, so I understand the culture. Just have some sense to keep it in your room

@Reskell492 A lot of people get genuinely dissapointed when I say I’m asexual and straight edged. I get pressured to accept drinks from men who cant believe I dont drink, and had people confused I dont want to go to a room party. It makes me feel nervous to dissapoint

@luckyisdesi Folks shouldn’t need a medical condition to stop peer pressuring folks to drink, but having a good excuse as to why you can’t is helpful in getting folks to stop 👍

@Reskell492 @AshTheRedPanda 💗 I plan to be mostly sober in the upcoming cons. I don't like to be around people that encourage me to drink. Needed to hear this Also shout out to my friends that have always been awesome and never pressured me to drink or smoke. ya'll the real ones

@Reskell492 100% Never feel pressured into drinking or doing anything else folks might be partaking in. You're well within your rights to say no or even just walk away. Be safe, be happy. 💙

@Reskell492 Agreed you shouldn't feel forced to drink and if your peers are making you feel "forced" to drink or engage with the nightlife then you may want to re-evaluate your friend group.
