I do want to say that as far as I can tell most unions are good. But like, that is an evaluation based on the things they do, not an inherent feature.

@RazzberryYams Police unions are real unions and I’m skeptical that getting rid of them is necessary or sufficient to fix the problems with American policing. Plenty of other countries seem to manage them just fine without the same level of rampant abuse as in the us

@ChadNotChud Yeah, the key is for there to be the political will for elected officials to control the police force, not to abolish police unions. We'd get support for the former well before the latter anyway.

@RazzberryYams Public sector unions as they exist in the US are really really bad. Their power comes from their ability to blackmail the state. Look at how Nordic countries handle this with public transportation drivers: they peg their salaries to those of the national private sector drivers.
