"Police unions aren't real unions" is a pretty weak cope to avoid recognizing that unions aren't always good.
Like it's just kicked the can down the road to "what makes a union a real union."
@RazzberryYams
Police unions are real unions and Iโm skeptical that getting rid of them is necessary or sufficient to fix the problems with American policing. Plenty of other countries seem to manage them just fine without the same level of rampant abuse as in the us
@ChadNotChud
Yeah, the key is for there to be the political will for elected officials to control the police force, not to abolish police unions.
We'd get support for the former well before the latter anyway.
@RazzberryYams
Public sector unions as they exist in the US are really really bad. Their power comes from their ability to blackmail the state. Look at how Nordic countries handle this with public transportation drivers: they peg their salaries to those of the national private sector drivers.
Diversity is good. This is diverse but not good. How to reconcile? Can't say diversity itself is insufficient for goodness, that sounds like I'm saying diversity is bad. I know! Diversity is when diverse *and* good. That's the ticket. Toddler logic.

Police unions only seem to protect their members from consequences. Most other other unions are so companies donโt exploit workers.
