It’s not like you are calling for a potassium of 3.4… jeez. ABGs should be taken seriously and should be corrected to prevent future crashing. And if the resident is only concerned with a patient who is *actively* crashing then they need to reevaluate their practice.

Whatttt. As a resident, ESPECIALLY in the ICU, I'm always so glad when nurses tell me what patient results are, especially ABGs! Also, if a nurse is calling, it's for a good reason!

If a nurse is concerned about something that I am not concerned about, I just say thank you. Unless it is a really experienced nurse and it doesn’t make sense to me initially why they are so concerned, then I probe to make sure I’M not missing something.

To this resident: do not talk to nurses like this. The remainder of your residency will be hell. Being nice will make the rest of your life easier.

Okay ALSO this resident needs to understand that your job is to report critical values along with stating to whom you spoke.
