Smiley's vote percentage looks fairly consistent with the percentage voting Republican in Congressional races. It appears you've misidentified the problem.

Doesn’t look like she even came close in any of the state’s most populous counties (King, Pierce, and Snohomish). Need to win on of those to have a chance.

It was an odd strategy. A US Senator has so little involvement in city politics - so I thought it was insulting to voters to conflate Seattle’s very real failures with Patty Murray.

Maybe she should have spent more time campaigning in the 8 counties she lost including King and Pierce and Whatcom than campaigning in Davenport a week or so before the election. Never any doubt she'd win all the rural counties. And she had zero experience. ZERO!
