Does Gen X really think these trophies just materialized out of thin air for Millenials? Picked off a trophy tree planted in every yard? Shipped to them by the Clinton Administration?
Don't know how many times I need to scream this but I'll do it again:
Jeff Foxworthy's generation ***gave the trophies to the kids***. The kids did not saunter down to the trophy shop and it themselves.
Preeeeeetty much nails how I feel. There are so many other opportunities in other areas of life to teach your kids this. A $24 gold painted piece of plastic isn't damaging them.
Unless it falls on their head. Not that I ... know anything about that.
@RM_Preston
I think its cool that kids get trophies as a reward for finishing the season. Its typically one of the highlights of their season. If kids mostly play rec sports, you're not gonna teach them many life skills in 3 practices and 10 games. Its never been about the trophies.
@RM_Preston
Uh, Gen X received a plethora of participation trophies. And Foxworthy is a boomer. His generation and the generation prior are the ones who started giving them out.
@HenduManchu
I'm willing to go as far back as it takes to find the culprits, I just resent apparently my generation (unless I missed previous grievances!) being the only one to take getting them on the chin.

Oh, well, it's presumed understood that, back then, anyone who bought a trophy for a purpose other than distribution amongst licensed winners was punished with harsh penalties, including lengthy jail sentences, or even death (depending on state).
@RM_Preston
The worst thing is, it was the boomer generation that handed out the trophies in their 30s, then complained about the trophies in their 50s, because it was no longer their children being told they were special.
@RM_Preston
You realize Jeff Foxworthy is a boomer right?
What does Gen X have to Jeff Foxworthy,'s opinions?
It was Boomers that started participation trophies. How do I know? I'm an elder Gen X and started getting participation trophies in 6th grade.
So please don't put this on Gen X
