I’ve been laid off, but am grateful this remarkable woman could be my final LA Times story. “Can L.A.'s Maria Rosario Jackson use art to heal an anxious America? Joe Biden thinks so”
Border Protection chief resigns as migrant children are moved back to troubled Texas facility. “Children should not have to sleep on the ground under Mylar blankets,” he said. “This is the United States of America.”
It’s getting late in the day, but our valiant

Much-needed nurses are flocking to California, where nurses make 50% more than national average and have strong unions and forceful regulations, and minimum nurse staffing levels at hospitals are mandated.
LA Times lawyers need to cease and desist with bringing 11th-hour proposals to the bargaining table that undermine trust, and get serious about wrapping up our first contract.

I know there are many Gannett shops that are non-unionized, and, when asked to go work at a striking location, reporters there likely feel they have no choice. But I say this sincerely: I'm not sure how I could look at myself in the mirror if I agreed.
Great reporting, writing, photos and graphics make this package as compelling as it is uplifting: In an increasingly pessimistic era, immigrants espouse a hallmark American trait — optimism

A great tribute to the journalist and author who exposed the Mexican government’s massacre of students before the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. I’ve interviewed her a few times and she still has that inner fire.
Shout-out to the

Biden needs help from Democratic allies. But “in spite of purporting to try to provide an alternative to the kids in cages, [Long Beach] is becoming complicit in the warehousing of children” -- Lauren Heidbrink, CSU professor.
Hay una montaña de evidencia de que los latinos carecen de acceso a servicios médicos que estén familiarizados con sus necesidades. El Dr. Ilan Shapiro está proponiendo algunas soluciones en el escenario español del LA Times Festival of Books.
“…video game companies are using their nonunion characters to feed machine learning algorithms that will then be able to do the characters without actually hiring humans. In the very near future, that may mean that your very first job is your last job.”
