I’m Autistic and Dyslexic. ChatGPT regularly helps me navigate life…
Here are some prompts I regularly use that might help other people too
(I'd love feedback on this - it feels like cheating at life, but I prefer to see it as levelling the playing field..)
A plea to schools - you are doing a wonderful job trying to provide families with the resources to teach our children but we're struggling & it's a lot of pressure
It's a beautiful day.. please give us permission to just stop and enjoy our kids too?
Please tell Lyra well done for her hard work...
She is studying psychology GCSE as she thought it would be interesting and she just got 92% on her first assignment after working SUPER hard on it
Better still, she's loving it!
Those of you who care about me, please can you hold me in your thoughts?
Behind the shine and apparent confidence I hide a broken little girl. Today I'm taking steps to help her heal

School will not be a happy place for children unless we first look after the adults there. They’ve endured weeks of uncertainty, bullying and no breaks
School Staff Matter Too!
They are the glue that will repair this rupture; but they need care, a clear plan and a rest
A really lovely thing happened today - I paid for the coffee of the person behind me (I often do this when visiting at the hospital, it can brighten a tough day someone's having)
..then they paid for the person behind them, who paid for the person behind them... a lovely moment
Just for the record, I think Our Children have shown remarkable resilience, kindness, innovation and patience in the past year
Thank you to the many of you cutting them just a little slack as they re-emerge, blinking into the sunshine...
Ellie used to think that maths was something she could not do
We've been doing maths every day and she's been collecting new skills on her "I Can" list
She's working SO hard (and overcoming demons) and I couldn't be more proud of her
Please tell her well done..
I keep writing and deleting a tweet about medication
There is so much stigma attached to taking pills for head stuff. But you know what? I’m doing pretty well and it’s thanks in no small part to these bad boys
There should be no shame in that

Every Child Matters
Am I looking back through rose tinted glasses when I find myself thinking that a revival of Every Child Matters would do a whole lot of good right now?
Dear Twitter,
This is my friend’s son Oscar. Oscar’s mum would like you to know that he’s not scary, in fact, he’s utterly adorable, wouldn’t you agree?

I am doing well these days and winning new battles all the time. This weekend I tried my first ever Belgian Bun
They were the ultimate fear food and if when anorexia ruled my life, you’d told me one day I could actually ENJOY one I’d never have believed you
I LOVED it. I WIN!
I’m incredulous at the announcement re schools. Schools, I’m with you. If I can lend my voice to any of your campaigns or causes please let me know
I try to be neutral but I am done with BoJo and his inability to safely lead us

Promoting Emotional Regulation in Autistic Children:
I'm especially proud of and excited to share this course. I hope you like it. Please share it widely
It's suitable for anyone working with / caring for children
Someone was curious today about why I praise & recommend my ‘competitors’
In case you were wondering too, it’s because I believe in collaboration & community over competition. We are stronger together
Maybe I’m a poor business mind but I am honest, fair & surrounded by love
Can we all agree to stop using the term 'school refusal' please?
We no longer talk about 'deliberate self-harm'
Blaming, stigmatising language builds barriers where bridges are needed
*steps off soapbox*
I’m on the train. This is a really big deal as I’ve avoided them for years due to the anxiety they provoke… but I’m feeling the fear and doing it anyway
Here's the working draft that Lyra and Ellie and have helped me come up with (hurrah for snow days!)
It's designed to be a generic task-planning sheet for ADHD / Autistic secondary students to use in class
What would make it better?
My therapist told me I was brave today
I let go & let flashbacks of my rape piece together into a whole that shook me to my core and saw me cry in pain for my childhood self
I’m finding EMDR painful, but powerful
I end the day with sand between my toes and hope in my heart
I did it! I did it!

1) I’m alive
So many rewrites of this tweet & no right words
This day 3 years ago was one of dissociation, suicidal intent, ambulances & anger
I was angry I’d failed in killing myself
Today I’m thankful I succeeded in living

I have nothing left to prove to you. I choose not to

SELF-HARM
We no longer recommend snapping of elastic bands and other proxy measures for self-harm
We are always learning. We got it wrong. We now believe these methods don’t work and can sometimes result in harm
More here:
This month marks a year since I reached a healthy weight for the first time in my life
Many days I battle
#PTSD
a minute at a time &
#Anorexia
a mouthful at a time
But as I fell about with laughter with Tom and the girls today, I realised I’m winning
I can do this..
Friends who are adopted:
My gorgeous Ellie would really benefit from some adoption-positivity from other adopted kids and adults today because sometimes just hearing that this isn't something to hide or be ashamed of from your Mum isn't quite enough...
Thank you!
Should schools weigh pupils to make sure they shift the pounds they've put on during the lockdown?
Health experts want two weigh-ins in September and then in the spring to keep kids on track. But could this just create a generation of calorie counters?

CYP WELLBEING - State of the Nation Report

SCHOOL ANXIETY
I'm currently working on a guide re supporting children who struggle to attend. It's a work in progress but thought this page might be a real help to some of you this week
What would you add or change?
13 years ago today and we still haven’t run out of things to say…
3 little things about our big day:
1) Tom chose the dress. I only tried on one
2) A friend did the flowers - our sole input was ‘maybe some red’
3)
@rachelparris
sang our first dance - Norah Jones
I'm reading the
#HowIFightDepression
hashtag and I feel I need to acknowledge that somedays I don't.
Some days I just curl up and hide and try to stay safe until the world feels a little more manageable.
And that's okay...
(isn't it?)
I’m not head of Ofsted so my opinion may not count for much but just for the record I’d like to say a massive thank you to my colleagues in schools
I think you made good choices; food before phonics…

Eugh.. Anxiety hangover.... does anyone else get that? When you've had sustained panic distress / panic / upset one day and then the next day you feel all fluttery and weak?
Solidarity or kittens; either would be helpful this morning..

AUTISM
There is a common misconception that autism is a spectrum from low to high functioning
In fact we all have different strengths and challenges - and these can change by the hour...
I can't find the source of this graphic, but it made me think

Every now and then I remember that a few short years ago anorexia left me so weak I didn't have the strength to sit up in my hospital bed.
I'm a *bit* stronger now... 😊
Being a school leader is a tough gig right now
Many I’m talking to are at breaking point. Terrified, tired and doubting their decisions
Whatever decision you made about tomorrow, myself and many more stand with you
Good luck
Tomorrow Lyra has her speaking debut - we're co-presenting a session on autism in girls
Her input to the session we've co-written has been fantastic
I'm pretty sure she's going to totally upstage me and I genuinely couldn't be happier about it
Please wish her luck...
Thank you for concern and sorry for silence. I’ve been poorly and asleep all week. Hopefully normal service resumes soon but for now, back to bed
Hugest apologies to those who’ve had events moved due to my illness; I promise to do a cracking job when I’m well enough
Xx
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and about how we need to give people the time and space to tell their own story
It is not always as we assume
Ellie was playing schools today, she was teaching her class about bullying
I asked her why. I thought we could all learn a little from her answer:
“Kindness is the most important lesson, and the easiest - so I thought I’d better teach it first”
<Extra free course for a few days>
Of all my recent courses, this is the one that will make the biggest difference to children's mental health

MENTAL HEALTH OF MALE TEACHERS
It's been suggested to me that the MH of male teachers is especially at risk right now and that much of the self-care talk doesn't appeal

Would this be a helpful webinar? Who should lead it? Presumably a man?? (i.e. not me?)
