Anyone have anything they want to tell us about Kast Media? In confidence? editor

ACTUALLY A PODCAST REQUIRES AN RSS FEED WITH AN ENCLOSURE SO NO YOUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL IS NOT A PODCAST FROM A TECHNICAL POINT OF VIEW REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU CALL IT BUT PEOPLE WILL PROBABLY CALL IT A PODCAST ANYWAY
New
@ApplePodcasts
seems to be a disaster. Many people reporting that their show is no longer available; many more that they simply cannot log in. Podcasts are impossible to submit currently, with incorrect errors about images and phone numbers. We’ve asked Apple for a statement.
Reddit seems a great place for people to notice your podcasts. 35,900 people have voted up this story from

BREAKING: An easy way to share and play podcast episodes for the three billion worldwide users of Facebook? Spotify is powering a podcast player within the biggest social network of them all.
Oh, good.
@MBoudet
has discovered our email address and is now sending us insults about this piece we wrote a month ago. We're apparently a "biased pile of shit", and we "suck at our job" (but on the bright side, at least we still have one).
This is a great list if you like podcasts about podcasts. Clearly, having our podcast so prominently listed has no effect on us breathlessly tweeting this.
Podchaser launches their
@Podchaser
Feed, a new way to discover great new podcasts.
And also put smilies in their press release to deliberately try and break things.
'Follow our podcast': Apple Podcasts to stop using 'subscribe'. The way we talk about podcasts will change forever: no more 'subscribe', a lot more 'follow', as Apple follows Spotify, Amazon and Stitcher.
Thanks to the one person who unsubscribed in a huff from Podnews today after we covered
@arithisandthat
's work. Though, many more thanks to the remaining 23,977 who are less precious about occasionally hearing a view they might not agree with.
Today: Dr Death tops the charts worldwide with its translated versions. Spotify adding podcast playlists; a third of attempts to listen to a podcast on a smart speaker fail; and "here's what else you need to kill today" - a daily true crime podcast
Today: we look at how show notes display in over 40 different podcast apps. And - podcasts are more popular than music playlists, and more popular than blogs, too. Who knew? (Us, obviously.)
Today: it's not been a very good week for
@hearluminary
- a proxy server (removed), messing with show notes, removing links, incorrect credits, disguising their app, and more big podcast publishers leave the platform.
Updated: our guide on how to use commercial music in your podcasts. If you want to go ahead and use Back In Black in your podcast, you might want to read this first.
New: Spotify may be using bots; and the new SoundExchange agreement.
Today: massive news for podcast discovery, as Spotify launches “Your Daily Podcasts”, a personalised feed including your favourites and new shows you might like. And, the launch of Gumball, a podcast advertising marketplace.
Exclusive: YouTube's plans for podcasting: We learn what YouTube has planned - integration, monetisation and analytics. And Podimo buys a podcast publisher.
Tim Ferris's podcast has achieved over 400m downloads so far. We went to look at our figures to compare: we've done 0.54m downloads so far. We're actually quite proud of that in a way.
Apple appear to have switched on transcript search within the upcoming Apple Podcasts apps. Here's a search for "pixel phone" on the desktop Apple Podcasts app in macOS beta.
We don't normally welcome new Gold Supporters for Podnews on Twitter, but this one may be surprising: thank you
@hearluminary
for supporting our industry. (Sorting out the show notes would be awesome too... -wink-)
Much excitement. Someone called Neal has become subscriber 25,000. Still time for that number to go down before we send out our newsletter, but we think we’ve done it! Thank you Neal, and the other 24,999.
Today: NPR will earn more next year from podcasting than it does from radio. NPO make it to Spotify; South African podcast data out on Wednesday; Brexitcast's success; and auto-post on YouTube?
How long should your podcast be? We've looked at scientific evidence; the current iTunes charts; and creative debate to give you the ideal length, once and for all.
We're on our way to

- one of the many good views on the way: Sydney Harbour looking pretty good this morning, if you like that sort of thing. New to Podnews? Get our free newsletter:
BREAKING: after nearly ten days, podcast categories are back BACK BACK!! in Apple Podcasts. Looks like we're
#15
in the new Daily News category in Australia.
Today:
@audioboom
posts significant revenue growth; podcasts ads are least likely to be skipped; it takes 9 minutes to find something to watch on the telly; and have we hit peak podcast?
Breaking: You can now listen to Apple Podcasts on the web (or even on your Android phone). *And* these new pages are all in Google search results already.
Happy 20th birthday, podcasting.
@davewiner
made the first podcast feed 20 years ago today.

might want to look the other way for a second). Thank you, Dave!
Interesting data from our own website. Gave pause for thought. RSS buttons are rather more used than you’d think; and Google Podcasts buttons getting lots of clicks too.

Breaking: it seems the
@BBC
are deliberately blocking access to their podcast RSS feeds for Google Podcasts, Google Assistant and other Google services. We've approached the corporation for comment.
@lockheimer
Press enquiry: This is the third time this app has been removed for linking to third party content. a) What safeguards are you putting in place to not penalise this developer again? b) Can you explain why your own Google Podcasts has not been removed for doing the same?
For the record - here's how show notes display currently in
@hearluminary
and
@Spotify
(both in black), plus
@google
Podcasts and
@SwootHQ
(in white). While Spotify is opt-in, would be good to similarly apply pressure on Spotify to respect podcasters' data here.
Spotify have brought their podcasters portal out of beta, at - and now you can see the favourite artists of your listeners. Here are our listeners' top three.
YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS
CORRECTION: While many people before us have reported a change in
@ApplePodcasts
automatic downloading behaviour in the next release, as did we on Wednesday, we're told that there will, in fact, be no change in this behaviour. We apologise for the error.
