Pittsburgh Police arrested a 17-year-old male in Market Square on May 1, 2024. Officers recovered a pistol with an obliterated serial number from his backpack. He was turned over to juvenile probation for placement.
Telephone Reporting Unit officers are alerting the public about an uptick in fraud schemes. Scammers use a number of different tactics and are becoming increasingly more convincing. Learn more about how to protect yourself -and your money - here:
UPDATE: Police arrested four people during this traffic stop.
Three juveniles are charged w/Possession of a Firearm by a Minor and Receiving Stolen Property.
Mehki Reed, 19, of Pittsburgh was charged with Person Not to Possess a Firearm.
The ATF continues its investigation.
Violence Prevention Unit detectives conducted a traffic stop at W. Warrington Ave. and Saw Mill Run Blvd. following a bolo for suspects believed to be involved in the theft of 21 firearms in Mercer County. The ATF is investigating.

Marathon weekend is upon us!
Please watch for these "No Parking" signs along the course route. They'll be posted 48 hours in advance of race day on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
Tagging and towing of vehicles will begin at 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 4th.

UPDATE: Pittsburgh Police collected 23 boxes of unused medications for a total weight of 448 pounds!

Reminder! National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, April 27.
From 10am-2pm, dispose of old and unneeded medications safely at a collection site near you. Drop-off boxes will be located at Police headquarters and the six police zone stations.
Public Safety participated in Take Our Kids To Work Day at the City-County Building. The lobby and Fourth Avenue were transformed into an interactive, fun learning experience.
Police, Fire, EMS, Park Rangers, Animal Care & Control, and Crossing Guards participated in the event.
UPDATE: Pittsburgh Police would like to thank members of the public for sending in tips on this case. As a result, one of the individuals has been positively identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Violence Prevention Unit detectives continue with proactive patrols in neighborhoods around the city.
On April 17, 2024, detectives were in the area of Rhine St. & Buente St. when they arrested a male with a gun who was a person not to possess.

Kenneth Gaines, 33, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of violating a firearms law.
