I’ve been studying the 1v1 duel an area of great potential improvement for players & coaches that could be a “massive gain” rather than a ‘marginal’ one. To help coaches focus on & clarify the core concepts & principles involved I have been using a “Quadrant tool” please feedback

@Paulmcg8 Paul - Do you choose the dual or does the dual choose you? & if both occur; how are they similar or different?

@GraemeCarrick In this respect it’s a duel with your nearest opponent context will determine who plays the lead role, this can alternate in seconds rapidly changing especially with highly skilled & perceptive expert players - in the preparatory phase hiding intensions in a game of ‘cat & mouse’

@Paulmcg8 @GraemeCarrick @AndrewAbraham11 @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 I think we also need to consider the players athletically stronger sides & how that can affect their decision making for body orientation when defending or attacking in 1v1’s & how that affects which space they choose to defend or attack despite tactical advice. Nature vs Nurture

@applewestcott @GraemeCarrick @AndrewAbraham11 @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 Absolutely agree the Q-tool helps to direct attention & can be used as an observational tool to assess physical / movement abilities that affect tactics - eg how to play vs a stronger / quicker opponent - it’s a starting point for exploration for coaches & players

@Paulmcg8 @GraemeCarrick @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 Key question for me Paul, how would the Q tool interact with the Principles of Play?

@AndrewAbraham11 @GraemeCarrick @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 Andy 1v1 principles of play connect to 2v1 and 2v2 principles key factors scanning to perceive - changes of speed / rhythm - disguise - timing (the arrogance of timing enticing or committing) - range of technical solutions

@Paulmcg8 @GraemeCarrick @AndrewAbraham11 @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 1/2. There’s much to address here with regard to content but let’s start with presentation. The crammed, graphics & often unreadable text is designed to “clarify” or encourage understanding? This is more like very early-stage, whiteboard brainstorming of the kind one can see ...

@Paulmcg8 @GraemeCarrick @AndrewAbraham11 @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 Paul, is the quadrant always angled to be horizontal and vertical to the pitch? It would seem more realistic if the quadrant's vertical axis points towards the centre of the defensive goal?

@joe_mulberry @GraemeCarrick @AndrewAbraham11 @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 Joe great point the Q-tool focuses attention on 1v1 duels - an observational - analysis - planning - teaching - reflective tool A vertical/horizontal axis helps create pictures of players off the ball relevant to off-side, directing at goal can give an on the ball viewpoint 🔥⚽️

@Paulmcg8 @GraemeCarrick @AndrewAbraham11 @wikicoach @KrisVDHaegen @Chrischappie @russellearnshaw @uppy01 A wonderfully Effective contextual & skilful (coordination-control) way of Perceiving Complex Interactions at Local level (1v1) with detail (actions) emerging thru Skilled Intentionality to attain PoP. Collective Coordination needs Scaling 3/4/6 to attain Skilled functionality.
