One of the most incredible things that Metal Gear Solid got right was just how engaging all these characters were. I wanted to know everything about them and more.
The whole PlayStation 2 experience had a real mysticism about it. From the minimalist box that contained the monolithic console itself, to Sony's marketing efforts in the form of The Third Place.
Probably peak Sony in terms of creating a cohesive message while generating hype.
If you found yourself in possession of a pirated game, you'd have a good chance of seeing a completely different startup logo instead of the usual PlayStation one.
The logo was fully polygonal as well, meaning that with a bad bios, you'd see the cursed abomination on the right.
Most folks share the boomerang controller, meanwhile, I'm looking at the back of this E3 PS3 unit and am not surprised most of these ports were dropped.
Hooking up the PS2 feels like therapy at this point. It's the gaming equivalent of disconnecting from a connected world and going for a walk in the woods.
No notifications, no massive updates, minimal UI, one wholly singular experience at at time. 😌
