Zheng. I hope y’all enjoyed it more than the countdown timer between rounds! Strange Worlds, but it feels an appropriate ending for the 2020-22 VGC season. Fun to finally work with Aaron & hate on Dynamax AV Gordon.
It’s sure been a while, but being Emergency Great Value Aaron Zheng on the VGC stream for the weekend was kinda fun. Wasn’t expecting to do this again, and the 2 days of notice I had was probably a little too obvious, but I think it coulda gone worse! Hope y’all enjoyed the show.
I may have gone like 50/50 on pronouncing Gholdengo correctly this weekend, but I did manage to never refer to Dondozo as Tatsugiri’s Gundam on stream, so I’m giving myself a B for following brand guidelines.
Recommend this. Was expecting a dumb troll reaction video, but Wolfe really flexes the game/community knowledge about what for my money is probably still the most interesting single tournament we've had in VGC.
but also 0/10 didnt make use of what was surely amazing commentary
Genuinely unsure how this happened this time, but I feel like at this point I've quit and unquit the stream more times than the average VGC player has quit and unquit VGC. See y'all in London, I guess!
Sure seems to me like a lot of people instigating recent trouble in VGC were pretty obvious repeat offenders. Stop giving them the time of day if they aren't going to treat other people better, regardless of how they treat you, and stand up for the people around you.
Some of the hungrier VGC folk may have noticed this already, but we tried something new for the VGC preview of NAIC, since the Power Rankings thing was sorta not workin for VGC. Let me know what you think (Featuring
@CybertronVGC

I think Pokémon Unite is the perfect vision of competitive Pokémon as a MOBA because people love it and can't stop playing it, but also are perpetually furious at things they view as outside their control
Wasn’t expecting to cast another Worlds, and I’ll certainly not be forgetting this one. Congrats to the winners! I hope we succeeded at making this crazy show more fun. Glad to finally do a show with Aaron and Ray at once, and it was an honor to close with Adam. Until next time!
Probably the most impressive single Worlds ever by Edu, going undefeated in this era and format with a team that has a lot of clever subtleties. Kinda bad luck for Kasty that the two Worlds he cut had undefeated champs to deal with!
Awesome event—tons of great games and a chaotic metagame despite the centralization on actual usage. That’s my last Reg E event casting, but I’ll be laddering using teams I would not bring to an event (GL to my opponents). Loved getting to do a show with this cast!
#PlayPokemon
Super fun tournament, hope the viewers enjoyed it as much as we did! Congrats to
@semprq
for an amazing win. Cool to finally get to cast with the incredible
@MaeveODork
. And I should probably never cast a
@CybertronVGC
semifinal again after the last two…
Excited for what I believe is Worlds No. 7 as talent! Shoutouts to that time all the casters at Regionals got sick and also The Couch with Aaron “Cybertron” Zheng, the path back has been a banger
It was great to get to do a few Regionals streams this year. I’m definitely still shaking off rust, but I loved getting to work with casters, competitors, and crew new and old. The game has come a long way since we started streaming!Hope y’all enjoyed the shows
I planned to joke the stream page was a mistake, but it's a little late.
Excited and nervous to be casting again. Two years off is going to be ugly, but I'll do my best. Nice to finally to be on the team with
@CybertronVGC
@GabbySnyder
and
@Dozzalon
.
Max Raid Battles have taught me that despite years of the animation's best efforts none of my dumb friends can win even a single round of Who's That Pokemon?
Wednesday was the anniversary of the 2012 GameSpot Worlds stream, the catalyst of
@NBplaid
and I getting into commentary. Life might be pretty different if that never happened...
More productively: I think players who want an friendly, healthy tournament scene should think about who they associate with more carefully. It's not realistic to just hope all of the bad apples get banned or decide to become major Smash Bros community figures or whatever. (1/2)
Who would have thought more than a decade later
@NBplaid
and I would again/still be doing events? Feeling my age with these back-to-backs, but I wouldn’t miss this one :P Now if only the cool Pokemon could stop losing on stream…
Got a Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew in the airport because crimes against god excite me, and it tastes like when we put a spicy team on stream and it loses 4-0 twice in a row. Don’t be a Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew, Trainers
Hey y'all, if you're lookin' to sate your Worlds excitement a little we have a particularly strong set of event previews this year!

Worlds was super fun, and the first VGC19 events are coming up quick. Time to get teambuilding—ICYMI, Battle Spot Rating Battles rules will be updated on Sept 4

Hope y’all who tuned in enjoyed the day. Long, strange day, but fun to be back. Think this is a tough format to jump into, was impressed so many people mostly seemed to have it together with so many different approaches.
I have encountered a lot of weird things on the internet but I don't think anything is ever going to be as strange to me as this crossover. Send help, it's all too much
I hit the halfway point on Octopath Traveler, and would definitely suggest it to JRPG fans. Plus, I just failed a 68% chance five times in a row, so I think it'll really appeal to Pokémon fans.
Wedding cont: Somehow I don't think we'd ever taken a picture with the five
@nuggetbridge
admins together before? Heck of a team. Congrats again,
@huynasaur
.
One of the weirdest (and most off-putting) parts of competitive gaming to me is the need so many players have to convince others that they're playing their game "the right way" while other players are not...
I like to think of myself as the VGC caster cockroach, inexplicably surviving to cast more events despite my many, many deaths.
Always funny to come back to Vancouver. Got my passport to cast there in 2013 and had to renew it to come back for Regionals this year!
I think the important thing about people forgetting VGC history is that this is now a PRIME opportunity to rewrite history and pretend that your commentators were much better players than we actually were
Exactly four years today since I started at
@Pokemon
. I still feel like I’m trying to find my footing, but I can’t imagine what life would be like without that 1,860 mile move.
Wrap for us in Peoria. Furthest I’ve travelled for a Regional in a very long time, and it was worth it—I think this is as much as I’ve enjoyed a format since 2013, and I hated D. Really eager to see how meta develops and to grind some games myself! Until next time…
I started playing VGC during 2010 as a brainless Hitmontop/Kyogre player, so I feel like the 9,999,999 games I'm in the process of playing against Tsareena/Kyogre is my just reward/punishment. Jeepers.
Weird facts before NA Internationals: There's a very good chance we're hitting the point where
@NBplaid
and I have known each other longer than most of our viewers have been alive.
I’m sure thankful for
@vgcstats
this season. Going to be really fun to see how different Pokemon do in each VGC format, especially the Legendary Pokemon. Excited to watch the season unfold!
I keep hoping someone will tell me it was all a joke and Peoria, IL was just a meme all along, but as we're getting close to the event I guess I'll see y'all soon in this apparently-real city!
Sorta just building up my save before I worry about VGC, but all these tier lists being all “the Pokemon you like suck and the sun has exploded and puppies are EXTINCT” or whatever really motivating me to make some teams that are not going to be good
It took me exactly one (1) encounter after where the PokeBall tutorial would be to find a Shiny, but I'll wait on posting a screenshot since it's one that wasn't announced. Get good, Shiny Hunters.
Going to be nice to finally see
@AlakaPKMN
on the official stream! Team is lookin’ pretty good these days. Unclear how he will ever get to cast Tyranitar if he isn’t able to be the one playing it.
@avos5
@CybertronVGC
I think everyone is in for the commentary gag of "Will this KO? It's going to be close, let me just calc this real quick... CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK"
The best thing that happened for my social media was taking a job where I wasn't allowed to be too big of a jerk. I still think of my Hot Takes, eventually realize there would have been no value in posting them, and avoid the consequences of having done so. It's better. Try it.
Fun to see so many people running events and making content and sharing teams for VGC this year. Spent a lot of Gen 7 wondering what things would be like if we kept NB going, but people have really stepped up for 2020.
This weekend’s genre was somewhere between “adventure” and “survival horror” for me, but it was cool to have the opportunity to do an IC again and I hope you all enjoyed the show. I seem to to these every four years like the Olympics, so hopefully we’re all still here in 2027!
I’ve never really sorted out how I feel about my general lack of autonomy over my many entrances and exits from casting, but it wound up as sort of a neat bookend if it started and ended in the same venue here in Vancouver, don’t you think?
I think this Double Battle thing in Hammerlocke is supposed to teach me about Double Battles, but instead I taught them about Double Battles by double flinching them with Rock Slide
I will be spending most of today on a flight to Japan, a top tier strat to avoid April Fools, and apparently to avoid VGC Twitter, which is somehow even worse
Pikachu is hiring a writer again, for anyone that might be of interest to
😍Write about the adventures of imaginary animals
🤑Encourage readers to desire the most recent Charizard
🤨Likely lose all sense of what a proper noun is
😮And much more????
I think this is my favorite VGC format to watch strong players play in. Really easy to wreck yourself, so it can lead to some sleepers early in events, but when people are playing well there's such fun tension
I, too, will be at the EUIC! I'm not gonna be workin', so come chat with me (unless it's about how you got haxed last round, then talk to your mom or something). People who want to discuss the stuff the players wrote for to the front of the line.
The top-8 teams and decks from each age division are up. Probably don’t try to bring these to a 2019 tournament, but still interesting to see the full lists

Oceania International Championships have begun! I know it's a strange time zone for many of you, but it's worth the Struggle to tune in!
I think a lot about how I might have done things on Nugget Bridge differently given what I've learned over the last six years, but man, every once in a while something makes me think "you know, we were alright."
Often I feel like I can be like "haha gamers am I right? at least the VGC folks are mostly pretty cool tho" in pretty good faith, and it is disappointing that right now I cannot. Be better.
@WolfeyGlick
I appreciate the change-up from usual YouTube comments. There's at least some punctuation in there, I just can't figure why he went for it sometimes and not others...
Props to
@louthepikachu
and
@Dozzalon
for somehow keeping that game 1 Lego fight interesting, and for generally handling one of the better all-time VGC finals masterfully. Tough assignment! (Curious if they looked dead inside like the casters of that Wailord-EX US Nats match did)
<3! I think I literally wrote that whole thing in one all-nighter after I got my job offer (so as to get it out while I was still allowed to). Glad, and maybe surprised, some people found it useful!
waking up on christmas morning 2014 to scott's list of the top 50 pokemon in projected vgc 2015 usage with a whole ass analysis for each and every one of them, retweet if these are your childhood memories
@CybertronVGC
I too enjoyed The Couch Hosted by Aaron Zheng. Here’s hoping we get to do it again (and maybe even determine which rounds we need to be prepped for in advance)!
At a workshop so I don't know why
#IStandWithSerebii
is trending, but be nice to Serebii. He does a lot. Also I feel like we have a good jaded-old-contributor connection thing going on and I like it.
I reject this timeline, bring him back
But if not, I pushed my washed up self as hard as it still goes in Yokohama to try and make it memorable with him. Glad I got the chance to run that Worlds with him and appreciate all he’s done for the streams so far.
Most of y'all follow me for VGC, so check out the official VGC Power Rankings heading into NAIC if you haven't already. It's been fun to work with writing from our contributors, and I think they have some great insights for the tournament:
