40. In 1924 Walter Plecker (a collaborator of M. Garvey) passed the racial integrity act of 1924. This Act made Indians “colored/negro” in Virginia (back dating 3 generations), similar practices happened throughout the nation. It was a felony to claim your heritage.

1923 map of "old Indian Trails" that were known in the southeast (published in an Annual Smithsonian report). Early "explorers" followed these trails. Nearly all of the extensive trail system that led from town-to-town became the road system we know today.
