A state funeral will be held for the Member for Arafura in Darwin 1 March, 2023. He will then be taken home to Pitjarmirra Outstation on Melville Island. My thoughts remain with his family and all those who knew and loved him – both here in the Territory and across Australia.

Today's state funeral formally farewelled our friend and colleague, the former Member for Arafura – Mr Lawrence Costa. A Tiwi Islander from Pitjarmirra Outstation, his was a life spent in service to the Northern Territory’s remote Aboriginal communities.

These aircraft will fly evacuees from Kalkarindji to Katherine where they will be bused to Darwin and on to the Centre for National Resilience in Howard Springs. Flight time is around an hour there and back. And we’ll be getting as many flights done today as is safe.

She may not have a medical degree (or opposable thumbs) but make no mistake Izzy is helping save lives. The two-year-old non-allergenic poodle has been on call at Katherine Hospital for the past month assisting patients in their recovery and she’s not going anywhere.
