So I finally have my very own writer’s hut 😭😭😭. It’s going to take a lot of work this year, but I’m hoping that by next year I’ll have a lovely little spot to share with other writers who need some space and Cornish sea air to get those words on the page.
Hi. Don’t everyone freak out at once but
@RealDeanCain
(aka SUPERMAN) retweeted about our

row and my teenage self is SCREAMING. Who am I kidding? My grown up self is too. Thank you Dean!
I adored this long read by
@RebeccaSolnit
on the need for new stories on climate. Heaps of wisdom alongside precise, tangible examples and so much of it relevant to the ocean world.

To the owner of the bookshop where I worked when I was thirteen. He is now 83 and had promised me he wouldn't retire until he'd sold a book of mine in his shop ❤️
So much ocean-climate communication knowledge in this panel today! Among all the gems of insight from our panellists was the pervading call to incorporate more social science into how we do things. Thank you
@IocUnesco
for hosting our conversation!

Turning 35 today 🎈I celebrated by visiting the oldest bookshop in the world, established in Lisbon in 1732. And look whose book I saw - fellow Truro author

The Writer’s Hut DIY project has officially started! If you were to spend a couple of nights in a writing hut, what would you most want to find in there? I’m thinking a drawer full to the brim of sticky notes…

They did it!!! 🐋 🌊 🌎 🥰 🎉 So very very grateful to all the people who have been working to protect such a massive part of our planet for years. This is historic.
Did a reading at my brother's wedding, but for some reason my mouth is closed in all of the photos so it looks like I'm just stood at the front of their ceremony, engrossed in reading a book while everyone waits. Possibly the most on brand photos of me ever. I'm dying.
I’ve done more listening than tweeting at

as there's been so much good conversation to take in. In particular, the

Dialogues have continued to expand my understanding of what ocean literacy means, what it can do and why it needs to be prioritised.
On the road again! We're in New York and it's the first day of

The most entertaining thing about dating apps in Cornwall is the number of photos of men with fish. The most disappointing thing is all the missed opportunities for excellent fishing-related puns. Angling for love. What a catch. Check out my tackle. COME👏ON👏GUYS👏 - do better!

After a thought-provoking, brain-melting, heart-scraping discussion with mentor

about my memoir-in-progress today, the universe gave me the gift of finally seeing a limpet return to its home scar in person. The timing couldn’t have been better. 💙
Back at the words this morning. Taking a step away from the laptop and reverting to writing by hand for a few days has been surprisingly productive, even if it does look (and feel) like a holiday.

I just found out that a book club went to an Iraqi restaurant to discuss my book. This is bloomin amazing and the food looks so good I wish I could have been there (with my hands over my ears) too.
Yesterday I got to talk strategic comms, research and collaboration with two colleagues from my Iraq days and a room full of epic ocean brains. It felt pretty special.

I phoned Richard at

to tell him this amazing news! I am so thrilled to be on the shortlist and so excited to read the other books on there! Thank you
@CostaBookAwards
and judges and congratulations to all of the other authors!
I’m massively grateful to the wonderful panel of writers and to
@BookFalmouth
for hosting our discussion. Now processing it all and thinking about how we can have more of these conversations… Great to see some of it captured below!
Looking at this work photo from yesterday and thinking that (2 yrs and 1 identity crisis in) the career switch from counter terrorism to ocean protection has worked out pretty well.
@elladkahn
once called this my ‘method acting approach to novel research’😆

📢Ocean friends. From a comms perspective, I'm getting increasingly concerned about ocean-based climate solution narratives that lump together natural blue carbon storage solutions with carbon dioxide removal / carbon capture and storage tech. 1/2
Rented a London flat last year that I chose purely so I could sit here and write. This morning I am 100% loving that decision. It’s my very own Crystal Palace jungle writing retreat.

More endless skies and beautiful high desert days. Spent some time with our Airbnb host yesterday and it turns out she and her husband are literary agents. I love finding the book world everywhere. 🌵📚

wrap folks! There's always more work to be done for the ocean, but it's important to celebrate the wins when we get them - and there were some definite wins! What an epic week. Congratulations to everyone who made it happen!

I love moments when my interests as author and ocean communicator collide. Storytelling like this can help change the world. Thank you

First time I’m doing a read through of the new manuscript on my kindle. There’s so much work still to do, but it finally feels like it’s becoming something and I’ve got editing butterflies like I’m in love. Check back in 20mins for me crying and wanting to delete it all.
Brilliant to see this event linking writers with an impressive list of ocean experts and advocates. I know I bang this drum a lot, but: Storytelling that connects readers to ocean issues --> a social mandate for ocean-climate action --> the decisive govt action we need 📚💙🌎
Friends, readers, everyone: I will be posting the link to join this event nearer the time. A new and fantastic guest speaker is also now on board, more details to come. All my best and look forward to being there with you.
