Sudan's prime minister Hamdok has told people he intends to resign within hours. He had previously said he would only stay on if his agreement with Burhan had political support, and Sunday's protest, plus numerous party statements, shows that it does not.

The IMF just announced that they’ve secured the financing to be able to clear Sudan’s arrears — this is the last major obstacle to Sudan reaching the HIPC “decision point”, meaning the long awaited debt relief. The IMF board meets on June 28 to make that decision.

Even if the fight for #JusticeforNoura is successful, I wonder how we're going to change a society where a father will force his daughter into a marriage, where a husband will feel entitled to rape his wife, where other men will assist him, and where none of this is punished.

NEW: As Sudan’s military tries to pull together a political base (and government) they are allowing the return of Bashir loyalists to the civil service *and politics* as we’ve seen this week with Ghandour’s release and the new “Broad Islamist Current”.

The war has dried up almost all of Sudan's (legal) exports, meaning the country will have less cash going forward to import fuel, wheat, medicine, and other essentials, furthering the already erupting humanitarian crisis.

Steep increase in gas prices in Khartoum today just as the central bank leaves exchange rate setting to banks and subsidized bread is hard to come by. The already struggling population is now almost fully subject to the global market just as the Ukraine crisis shoots prices up.

Hemedti's peace rhetoric as his troops continue to pillage is dubious, while on the other side Burhan's speech makes clear his desire to keep fighting, and to pull more civilians into the fight as well. Efforts to end the war seem more distant than ever. Story on speech soon.

Despite an internet blackout and heavy security presence today protesters still managed to approach the presidential palace for the second time in the 10th round of protests. Number 11 is planned for Thursday.
